Ark Tips for Taming

Ark has gained popularity over time due to its unique feature of owning creatures such as dinosaurs and dragons. It’s fun to have such gigantic creatures by your side and use them to travel around the world of Ark. Certain creatures in Ark are used for different utilities, including gathering materials and defending your base

There is an exciting process between owning a creature and using them for various purposes, it’s called taming. You have to go through a series of steps, some of them are different for a few creatures. Mostly, beginners don’t know how to tame a creature.

Well, that’s not a problem now because this guide is here to get you along the process. We will discuss tips for taming in Ark that will surely help you own your favorite creature.

Taming Process in Ark

As taming is a part of your journey in Ark, you are going to get a lot of fun in it. Some creatures are quite tricky to tame, whereas others are easy to capture. Taming involves steps such as choosing the right creature, knocking it out, luring the creature to a safe place, using the right food, and building a safe place for your creature.

Let’s discuss these steps and some other tips for taming in Ark in detail.

Picking the Right Creature

Ark Tips for Taming - Picking the Right Creature

As a beginner, you might choose the wrong creature and try to own it because you don’t know where to start. No doubt, we have a huge list of creatures that can be tamed but the problem is the big creatures are not for beginners. So, I would suggest you choose small creatures to start gaining some experience.

As you make progress you can start to move toward the middle-sized creatures and finally the large ones. It is also important to choose the right category of creatures such as the dinosaurs, reptiles, birds, mammals, and others.

We know that these creatures are capable of performing various tasks such as hunting, riding, gathering materials, and others. So, it is a good idea to pick a creature that can help you in completing a certain task as well.

Another important thing to consider is the creature’s level. In Ark, different creatures spawn with different levels that go from level 5 to level 150. As a beginner, if you encounter a high-level creature then keeping yourself away from it would be the best thing. Search for the one that has a low level.

Knocking Out the Creature

Ark Tips for Taming - Knocking Out the Creature

Different creatures have a different amount of health levels which require using the right technique to knock them out. This can be done with the help of weapons such as Slingshot, Crossbow, Harpoon Launcher, Longneck Rifle, and others.

The Tranq Arrows can be used with the Crossbow and Tranquilizer Darts with Longneck Rifle. These are the best options for taming you can find out there.

Also, besides using weapons some creatures have the ability to knock out other creatures. These include Scorpion, Pachy, Unicorn, Basilisk, and others. But this option is for experienced players.

One thing to consider here is that after knocking out a creature it can pull itself out from the unconscious. The best way to deal with this is to carry a lot of Narcoberries

The creatures can be knocked out with a non-violent method as well. That includes the use of a feeding item instead of a weapon. You just simply need to get close to a creature and use the preferred food item. Here are a few creatures that can be tamed with this method.

  • Basilosaurus can be tamed using Exceptional Kibble
  • Manta can be tamed using AnglerGel
  • Vulture can be tamed using Spoiled Meat
  • Onyc can be tamed using Meat and Fish
  • Giant Bee can be tamed using Simple Kibble

Luring Creature to a Safe Place

Ark Tips for Taming - Luring Creature

While taming a creature you become more exposed to other creatures and your threat level rises. This happens because you are focusing on knocking out a creature and feeding it to tame it successfully.

Here I suggest you find a safe place that has no intruders and fairly fewer creatures in the vicinity. This will allow you to keep your focus on the tame. The tame level can be dropped if you do not feed the creature when it is looking for food. So, it’s better to keep yourself and your creature in a safe place until it is tamed.

Hiding in the bushes can be a pretty good idea but remember to choose a spot that has no creatures or threats in the surroundings. You can easily lure a creature to a safe place that is full of covers and then knock it down with the right weapon.

Using the Right Food

Tips for Taming in Ark

Choosing the right food is the key to taming any creature. There are tons of different food items that can be used while taming. Most of the creatures prefer their favorite Kibble. For the Carnivore creatures, you can try using Raw Meat and for the Herbivores, you can use various crops and berries.

You will need to feed them constantly until the taming bar is filled to 100%. Using any item other than the preferred Kibble can result in less taming speed and effectiveness.

Kibble can be crafted on a Cooking Pot or Industrial Cooker using various ingredients. We have six types of Kibbles that can be crafted.

Here are the recipes.

  • Basic Kibble: It requires the following ingredients Extra Small Egg, 5x Mejoberry, 10x Amarberry, 10x Tintoberry, 1x Cooked Meat, 5x Fiber, and 1x Waterskin.
  • Simple Kibble: You will need Small Egg, 5x Mejoberry, 2x Rockarrot, 1x Cooked Fish Meat, 5x Fiber, and 1x Waterskin.
  • Regular kibble: For this, you will need Medium Egg, 2x Longrass, 2x Savoroot, 1x Cooked Meat Jerky, 5x Fiber, and 1x Waterskin.
  • Superior Kibble: Large Egg, 2x Citronal, 2x Rare Mushroom, 1x Prime Meat Jerky, 1x Sap, 5x Fiber, and 1x Waterskin.
  • Exceptional Kibble: This requires Extra Large Egg, 10x Mejoberry, 1x Rare Flower, 1x Focal Chili, 5x Fiber, and 1x Waterskin.
  • Extraordinary Kibble:  This Kibble requires Special Egg, 10x Mejoberry, 1x Giant Bee Honey, 1x Lazarus Chowder, 5x Fiber, and 1x Waterskin.

Kibbles are the best choice of food when taming a creature. Only use Raw Meat and Berries when you can’t craft Kibbles.

Building a Safe Place for Your Creature

Safe place for creature

In Ark, you can have as many creatures as you want. But, keeping them safe from other players should be your number one priority. You can’t take all of your tames with you when you go out. You will have to leave some of them at your base. But if they are accessible to the raiders then there is a possible threat to them.

For their safety, you can build various types of structures around your base. You can build stone walls or metal walls around your base.

As for the flyers, you can set them somewhere at a high altitude such as on a tower. You can build these structures easily.

These are the tips for taming in Ark a creature. Make sure you go through them carefully and follow each one of them to get your hands on one of your favorite creatures.

Is it Better to Starve Tame in Ark?

Inventory in Ark

In my opinion, it is not a good idea to try to starve tame. This will only waste your time and there is a greater chance that the creature will become aggressive and lose the tame progress.

If you don’t feed it when it needs then it will surely lose all the progress and will become conscious. Hence, you may result in losing the creature. This will reset all your process of taming. Ultimately, you will need to knock down the creature again.
