Best Builds for The Artist in Dead By Daylight

2021 was a great year for Dead By Daylight. Among the list of new killers, we can find important names like Nemesis from Resident Evil or Pinhead from Hellraiser. Other original killers quickly became icons of the game, such as Trickster. What nobody expected by the end of 2021 was that Behaviour Interactive still planned to release one more killer, who would turn out to be the most powerful of the year: the Artist.

Although the artist can potentially be one of the most powerful killers in the game, she is not a character that we can perfect from one moment to the next. Her kit is easy to learn. But, without the right tools, we’ll be left halfway and won’t be able to get the most out of her ability. That’s why in this guide, we will not only learn how to use the artist, but we will also see some of the best builds for the Artist so that the next time we enter a trial, no survivor leaves alive.

The Artist’s Power: Birds of Torment

Birds of Torment

The artist’s ability is Birds of Torment. This ability allows her to charge an attack that will create the shadow of a raven facing the direction the artist was facing when she launched it. The killer can create up to three Birds of Torment at the same time. But, these can be destroyed by flashlights, firecrackers, or flash grenades.

When the player presses the Power Button, the artist throws in a straight line all the crows she has placed at the same time. If the crow hits a survivor, the survivor takes no damage. It is, instead, attacked by a group of crows that will reveal to the artist where they are. If the artist manages to hit a second raven attack before the survivor manages to get rid of them, he will receive damage. In case he was already wounded, he will enter the Dying State.

In addition, if the ravens manage to hit a survivor very close to where they are cast, they will damage their victim. The more crows you throw, the longer the cooldown of the skill will be, so if you hit a survivor after casting 3 crows, he will surely get rid of them before you can launch the attack that can actually hurt the survivor.

How to Use the Artist

Using Carmina requires a good strategy and a good understanding of how to use her ravens. The first thing you should do when the game starts is throw a crow at three different generators. This will not be to hurt a survivor but to know where they are from the beginning of the game.

When we are chasing the survivors with Birds of Torment charged, we must throw the crows one by one. Remember not to aim at where the survivor is, but where you think he might go. When we hit the first crow, we can shoot three crows together as if it were a shotgun. In this case, the Cooldown of our ability will not matter, since the survivor will be wounded anyway.

If the survivor is looping us, a great strategy is to put crows aiming at windows or pallets. If we do this effectively, the survivor will either get hit by our raven at close range or by a basic attack if he decides not to jump out the window. The Artist is the most anti-looping killer in the game, let’s take advantage of it!

Dead Man's Switch and Scourge Hook

This is without a doubt the best build for the Artist. On the one hand, Dead Man’s Switch and Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance will eliminate any progress that can be made in the generators. When we hang a survivor, not only will Pain Resonance explode their generator, but it will also reveal to the artist where they are. In these cases, the artist will start throwing crows in that direction. Most of the survivors have to abandon the generators when the first crow attacks them. And, that is when Dead Man’s Switch will take effect and block the generator.

If survivors make it to the late game, Hex: No One Escapes Death will be a factor for survivors to consider. If we hook each survivor at least once, No Way Out will combine with NOED. With the artist’s power to detect where the survivors are with her crows, they will have no chance to escape.

If you are still learning how to use the artist, maybe the previous build is not as useful as this one. This build is not only made for you to get the most kills at the end of the game but also for you to learn how to use Carmina in the process.

Corrupt Intervention may not be the best perk to learn how to use the artist. But, if you are new to her you should use it. That is because it will prevent your generators from being repaired in the first few minutes. Then, Barbecue and Chili will not only give you bloodpoints to invest in new perks, but it will also warn you where the survivors are after hanging them. This will help you to practice your aim since with this information you can give several surprise hits.

Hex: Pain Resonance is the only perk that repeats from the previous build. But, it has very good reasons to do so. First of all, it is a perk of the artist, so we won’t have to work hard to get it. Also, no matter what level you play Carmina at, this has become one of the most powerful perks in the game. Combined with Hex: Ruin, the impact on the generators will be much greater than with Dead Man’s Switch. It will serve you better if you have the confidence to hunt the survivors.

This is a fun combination of perks that are meant to make you stronger every time you put a survivor on a hook. The first 3 perks will benefit you a lot when you hook every one at least once. No Way Out will increase the time the doors are blocked. Grim Embrace will block all generators. And, Barbecue and Chili will give you a lot of extra bloodpoints when you do it.

While this is happening, the real threat to the survivors is hidden. When you get your third hook, Hex: Devour Hope will start to take effect. If you manage to protect this perk, you will be able to start taking down the survivors in one hit. And, if you reach the fifth hook, you will be able to directly kill them. Even if the survivors manage to destroy your totem in time, the damage will already be done, and they still haven’t seen your other perks…

Best Add-ons For the Artist

Festering Carrion
Being a relatively easy to get the add-on, the 0.5 seconds bonus you have in Birds of Torment will help you a lot to catch survivors before they can drive your crows away.

Severed Hands
Combined with Festering Carrion, its effect is even stronger. The ability to fill more than one survivor with crows with a single attack can give you a great advantage in a chase. That’s especially if you launch three crows at once in your second attack.

Best Maps For the Artist

The main maps on which the artist benefits are those that do not have huge height differences. So, maps like Midwich are discarded. This is because even though her crows cover the whole map, they can’t climb stairs and can’t aim upwards. Thus, her best map must be small and the parts with height should not be used much. Several maps are presented as candidates, but without a doubt, your best map is the Treatment Theater.

This map is small, tight, and oppressive with stairs that are hardly ever used, as generators never appear on the second floor. So now you know, if you have a sacrifice to address this map with the artist, don’t hesitate to use it!
