The legendary Pinhead has come to Dead by Daylight under the alias, Cenobite. The Cenobite is a difficult killer to learn, but once you get the hang of him, becomes an absolute monster. Even so, you still need to run a powerful build on Pinhead for him to be competitive at top ranks. Thankfully we have looked over the best Cenobite builds in DBD and have found one that will make playing Pinhead a breeze.
What is the best build on the Cenobite? Ruin, Haunted Ground, Undying, and Tinkerer. With these perks, you will be able to end loops almost as quickly as they start and make any survivor that is daring enough to try and finish your Lament Configuration regret it.
If you want a complete rundown on why I think these are the best perks for Pinhead (and our alternate build) keep reading. Otherwise, I wish you well in your Dead by Daylight matches!

Pinhead Power: Summons of Pain
The Cenobites’ power is Summons of Pain, a power that functions similar to the Deathslinger without having to reel in survivors yourself. Pinheads’ power instead spawns chains that bind and slow survivors passively. This makes running from the Cenobite extremely hard as you will be constantly dodging randomly summoned chains.
To have the chains spawn, however, you need to hit them with a chain yourself. That’s the main power. Much like Nurse, you have to hold the right mouse button to extend to where the hook will spawn, and then you have to hit the survivor with the hook. It is difficult to control at first, but after some time you will get the hang of it and hit more often than you miss. Just think of Pinhead as a Nurse/Deathslinger combo.
Another part of the Cenobite’s power is the Lament Configuration. Something right out of Hellraiser. This is a box that randomly spawns on the map and if left unsolved will start a “chain hunt”, aka hooks will start spawning and hitting survivors. If a survivor does try to solve it, Pinhead is notified and will be able to teleport to them. Also, if Pinhead picks up the box instead, the chain hunt begins immediately. So survivors are incentivized to solve it.
Keep in mind, Pinhead can’t see the Lament Configuration, but the survivors can (a highlighted aura). This gives them the upper hand in finding it. But don’t worry if they solve it, it will simply spawn again.
Best Pinhead Perks and Addons
Here is the part you were waiting for! The absolute best perks and addons for the Cenobite and the de-facto build to win your games and rank up with the new MMR system in Dead by Daylight. I actually have two builds in mind for the Cenobite, so check out both and see which one you prefer.
The first build is really simple and we already talked about it. This “best build for Pinhead” is:
- Ruin
- Undying
- Haunted Grounds
- Tinkerer
Let’s break each down.
Ruin has always been a strong slowdown perk in Dead by Daylight and remains the best perk for preventing generators from being completed. You could argue that Pop the Weasel is better, but this build focuses a lot on Hex Totems, so Ruin fits better. We need a slowdown perk for Pinhead because he has no slowdown in his kit.
Undying is a Hex perk that prevents you from losing an important Hex right at the beginning. The survivors will be looking for your Ruin when they notice it, so preventing them from instantly taking away your strongest perk is ideal. It also synergizes really well with Haunted Grounds.
Haunted Grounds is a Hex perk that “exposes” survivors if they cleanse it. In other words, a full health survivor is a one-shot. Because Pinhead can almost guarantee a single hit with his chains, a well-timed Haunted Grounds will destroy survivor groups. Also, it punishes a survivor that might try to solve the Lament Configuration during the exposed effect.
Finally, Tinkerer is becoming a meta perk for killers because it gives you information and the potential to sneak up on unsuspecting survivors. One thing Tinkerers also does is make it easier for killers that suffer on enclosed maps, like Pinhead. Most of the time, survivors will hear you coming a mile away and just break line of sight. With Tinkerers, they won’t know until it is too late, giving you a chance to down them quickly.
No Teachables Pinhead Build
So that’s the explanation for the best Pinhead build in DBD. But, for those who don’t have expensive perks like that, or are new to the game (welcome btw!), here is a very simple build that doesn’t cost much:
- Deadlock (Pinhead Perk)
- Sloppy Butcher (All Killers)
- No One Escapes Death (All Killers)
- Whispers (All Killers)
This group of perks is available to you without having to use any teachables. So this is the perfect no teachable build for Pinhead. Deadlock and sloppy slow down the gen progress, NOED makes the end-game much harder for survivors, and Whispers is your information perk. A good all-around build.
The Best Addons for Pinhead in Dead by Daylight
Without a doubt, the best addons for Pinhead are some of his red addons. Iridescent Lament Configuration hides the aura of the Lament Configuration unless survivors are within 16 meters of it. Engineer’s Fang injures survivors hit with your power (so you’re basically better Huntress).
Outside of those addons here are the best that you can expect to reliably have:
- Original Pain (Purple)
- Slice of Frank (Green)
- Torture Pillar (Green)
Avoid any of the Lament Configuration add-ons that increase solving time or teleport distance. Most smart survivors (especially when in an SWF) will be solving the cube when you have no way of downing them, which is usually when you are busy or they are at the opposite end of the map. Instead, focus on buffing your power.
Distance addons and turn rate add-ons are good alternatives if you don’t have the above addons. But truthfully, you probably won’t need them.
End
And that’s it for the best Pinhead build in Dead by Daylight. Hopefully, this helps! Good luck in your games.
