In the Diablo 4 open beta, you only have the choice between three classes. One of these classes is the Rogue. The Rogue is an interesting class that can be either melee, ranged, or both, allowing players to mix and match playstyles to their liking.
In this guide, I will show you the best build for the Rogue in Diablo 4. This will include the best skills for leveling, the best abilities for the Rogue, and even some of the best gear.
I consider the Rogue one of the best classes in Diablo 4, and this build is a large part of that.
Best Rogue Build in Diablo 4
For this Rogue build, we will be focusing on Heartseeker, Barrage, and Shadow Clone. These are some of the better abilities for the Rogue and are more focused on a ranged rogue build, but oftentimes you will be in melee range.
For Rogues, the main resource they have is Energy. Unlike Barbarians that have to build it, Energy regenerates over time. Although, with specific Rogue skills, you can regenerate it faster.
Here is the initial skill build (level ten) for Rogues:
- Heartseeker
- Enhanced Heartseeker
- Barrage
- Enhanced Barrage
- Advanced Barrage
- Fundamental Heartseeker
- Caltrops
- Enhanced Caltrops
- Disciplined Caltrops
In this starter leveling build for Rogues, you are using Heartseeker to increase attack speed, critical strike chance, and critical damage. Meanwhile, the Barrage will be your main Energy consuming ability that deals lots of AOE damage and functions much like a shotgun would.
When using Barrage, it is best to be closer, as the barrage of arrows is spread out over a wide area. You don’t need to worry about hitting multiple enemies with it because the arrows will automatically ricochet to other enemies.
Here is the full skill build for level 25 Rogues:
- Heartseeker
- Enhanced Heartseeker
- Barrage
- Enhanced Barrage
- Advanced Barrage
- Fundamental Heartseeker
- Caltrops
- Enhanced Caltrops
- Disciplined Caltrops
- Dash
- Enhanced Dash
- Concealment
- Enhanced Stealth
- Subverting Stealth
- Barrage
- Shadow Imbuement
- Enhanced Shadow Imbuement
- Blended Shadow Imbuement
- Barrage
- Barrage
- Shadow Crash
- Consuming Shadows
- Consuming Shadows
- Shadow Clone
Basically, this build focuses on using Barrage as often as possible to not only do AOE damage but to shotgun down elites and bosses. You’ll be going into melee range a lot with this build, but with the combination of Caltrops, Dash, and Concealment, you’re going to be incredibly slippery and hard to hit.
The ideal rotation for this Rogue build is to shoot them a few times with Heartseeker to build stacks of crit chance and damage; use evade to get close, drop Caltrops at their feet for extra damage and crit chance; Dash in to get close and apply the increased crit damage effect, and then spam Barrage in the boss/elites face. The AOE from Barrage will kill all the other enemies around.
Or, to make it easier to read, the optimal Rogue rotation:
- Build Heartseeker stacks
- Use Evade to close distance
- Drop Caltrops
- Dash in to apply crit damage and get into melee range
- Concealment
- (If Shadow Imbuement up) Use Shadow Imbuement
- Spam Barrage on the tankiest enemy
If Shadow Clone is up, you use that first and then continue the rotation, and if you have Shadow Imbuement up, you use it before spamming Barrage.
Note: once you reach your ultimate (Shadow Clone) you should drop either Caltrops or Dash from the build. The choice is up to you, your playstyle, and your gear. Use the leftover points to max out your passive.
We want Shadow Imbuement because of the Enhanced Shadow Imbument skill that gives us a 25% increased critical strike chance vs. injured enemies (enemies below 35% HP) infected by Shadow Imbuement. Also, Consuming Shadows gives us ten energy for every enemy killed with Shadow Damage.
Alternatively, you can go for Cold Imbuement and Frigid Finesse. I think either is fine.
Best Gear for Rogues
So, some of the best weapons for Rogues are obviously going to be legendaries. The one that dropped for me added a Shadow Clone to my dash skill, which casts dash but only does 27% of my damage. Obviously, this is very good.
I also had an amulet that gave me +1 for all my Agility and Subterfuge skills. In other words, I had several skills for free that I didn’t have to level up at all. I’d say this amulet is better than most other pieces of gear you’ll find, even legendaries, while you’re leveling up.
Otherwise, in terms of good gear for Rogues, you should upgrade whenever given a chance. Keep an eye out for dexterity stats or crit stats, but try to always replace gear when you find an upgrade.
Here are some good legendary aspects for Rogues in Diablo 4:
Aspect Name | Legendary Aspect Power |
---|---|
Edgemaster | Skills deal up to #%[x] increased damage based on your available Primary Resource when cast, receiving the maximum benefit while you have full Primary Resource. |
Repeating | Rapid Fire has a #% chance to ricochet to another target. |
Quickening Fog | You automatically drop a Smoke Grenade at the end of Dash. Dash’s Cooldown is reduced by # seconds for each enemy Dazed this way, up to # seconds. |
Shadowslicer | When you cast Dash, a Shadow Clone is spawned at your location that also casts Dash, dealing #% of the Base damage. |
That’s about it for this Rogue build guide in Diablo 4. I believe this is the best Rogue build right now, but I will update it as time goes on.
