Finding Gortash in Baldur’s Gate 3
Until now, you have encountered many NPCs in Baldur’s Gate 3. Gortash is one of the many NPCs that you will meet in your entire Baldur’s Gate 3 journey. But this NPC is not ordinary; rather, Gortash is a dangerous and powerful boss NPC that you will face in the game.
You have to go through several other enemies before you actually get a chance to fight with him. Also, there will be several traps in between that you must clear. Don’t worry. This all sounds hard and challenging, but we have got you covered.
Locating Lord Gortash
Lord Gortash is hiding in the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. This place is accessible in the third act. He can be found on the top of the fortress. But as you try to reach him, there will be some threats that block your way.
Now that you have got his location, it’s not easy to reach him. He is being guarded by various traps and most of his guards spawn when you start proceeding into the fortress. But, before you make it to the fortress there is one thing that you should do.
Disabling Steel Watch
Disabling the Steel Watch can make the boss fight with Gortash a lot easier. This is the thing you shouldn’t miss at any cost before you start a fight with him. Disabling Steel watch will also disable all the mechs in the city of Baldur’s Gate but this comes with a consequence. All the guards will become active and they will move towards the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress in order to protect it.
Now, let’s discuss how we can disable the Steel Watch. It’s actually a side quest that takes place in the city. You have to enter the Steel Watch Foundry which is located on the southwestern side of the city. As you make progress in this quest, you will come across various points and eventually, you can disable all the giant mechanical guards including the ones who are protecting Gortash.
Entering the Steel Watch Foundry
Steel Watch Foundry is the place from where you can make your battle against Gortash more easier and focused. There will be some mechanical giant guards in the battle if you don’t destroy this Steel Watch Foundry.
So, you can find the Steel Watch Foundry on the southwestern side of the city. The entrance to this foundry is from Water Queen’s House. This is located a little south side of the foundry. Head to the northwestern edge of the house and cross the area to reach the dock where you can see a Steel Watcher.
Destroy that guard and move on to the main doors that are locked. Use the lockpick to unlock the doors and move into the Steel Watch Foundry.
Saving Gondians
Once you are in the foundry, head straight to the security office where you meet Zanner Toobin, he is the one who can help you out in destroying the building. But, this comes at a cost, you have to save the Gondians.
So, you must free the Gondians before you can disable the Steel Watch. Now, to find the Gondians head straight to the Flymm Cargo which is on the east side of the foundry. Here, look for the hidden latch that leads to the engine room of the submersible.
Once you are in the engine room, there will be a dwarf, you must convince him successfully to keep on moving. Once done, head towards the Iron Throne. Here, you will meet Gortash who warns you to go back or else he will destroy the prison, but don’t focus on his warnings and keep on moving.
Once you are in the prison area, you will have eight turns to free up all the Gondians. The only best way to save the Gondians is by splitting up your party members and ordering them to move on each side of the prison area.
Here, you can make use of Dash and Mage Hands to easily free up all the Gondians from the prison cells. Make sure to at least save Obelia if it gets difficult for you to save all the Gondians or else Zanner won’t help you. Once done, return back to the foundry.
Destroying Steel Watch
Now, get back to the Zanner Toobin, you will find Zanner and Gondians fighting against the enemies, helping them to keep Zanner alive. After the fight, speak to him get back to the security room, and head downstairs, here another battle will happen.
Keep on protecting Zanner and clear the room. Now, you need to move to the next room where you will have to face Steel Watchers and the Titan Steel Watch. This fight is going to be intense and Zanner won’t engage in this battle.
You must win this final battle to destroy the Steel Watch Foundry. I would recommend you have something powerful on your side so that you can destroy all of the Steel Watchers including the Titan easily. Hellfire Engine Crossbow is the best weapon for this battle.
Once you have cleared the room speak to Zanner and he will blow up the whole building while your party rushes out of the Steel Watch Foundry.
Defeating Lord Enver Gortash
Now that you have disabled the Steel Watch, it’s time to head back to the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress where Gortash is waiting for you. You have disabled the giants who were protecting Gortash, but still, there are some NPCs who are defending the fortress. You can either use stealth movements to directly reach Gortash on the top floor or you can clear each of the floors.
Once you make it to the top floor and into the Gortash’s chamber, it’s time to get yourself prepared before you enter the chamber. Gortash will have several different moves and there will be some traps as well in the room.
Gortash has two guards within his chamber, they are Iron Consul and Black Gauntlet. But, you shouldn’t be worrying about them as they are easy to handle. The only problems in the chamber are the traps and passive abilities of Gortash.
First of all, as you start the battle, there will be some fire attacks blowing out of the wall. Stay attentive throughout the battle to dodge those fire blows as they can do a lot of damage. Next, there will also be some fire grenades that come out of the wall. You can either save yourself from those nades or through them back.
Gortash’s partners who are Iron Consul and Black Gauntlet will continue to Bane’s Command and Aura of Terror. This will stop you from focusing on one target. So, what you can do is clear out the room from Gortash’s allies first. Later on, you can focus only on Gortash.
Attacks Against Gortash
Most of the melee attacks can cause heavy damage to Gortash. But, before you do that, I would recommend you disable Shell of Resistance because it keeps giving a buff to Gortash that saves him from damage.
You can disable or at least stop Gortash from getting buffed by shooting the traps at the back of the room near the statue. Once you have done that, you should now focus on attacking Gortash. Make use of melee attacks such as the radiant melee attacks. Other than that you can also go with some magical attacks but make sure that they are not fire type.
Another thing you can do is take Gortash to the radius where the grenades are being launched. This will allow you to do more damage to Gortash, he will receive damage from the nades and from your attacks as well. Hence, it will become a lot easier to finish him off.
Where Do I Confront Gortash in BG3?
Gortash can be found in the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress which is in the Baldur’s Gate City. This becomes accessible in the Act III. So, if you are in the Act III of Baldur’s Gate 3 then you can easily reach the Wyrm’s Rock Fortress to confront Lord Gortash.
However, it’s not that simple to reach Gortash in his fortress. Gortash has dozens of allies in his building and you will have to go through various traps to reach him. The first thing you should do is disable his mechanical giant guards from the Steel Watch Foundry.
This will make it a lot easier for you to reach the top floor of Wyrm’s Rock Fortress where Gortash is roaming in his chamber. However, you still have to fight his guards on the lower floors of the building and finally on the top floor.
Should You Ally With Gortash in BG3?
As we know the game presents you with lots of choices each time you do a quest or any interaction with an NPC. The same goes with Gortash, you can choose to recruit him to your party as it can be beneficial for you.
But, you should take him out to collect one of those three stones that are required to save the city from evil. Otherwise, if you choose to ally with him then you will have a chance to use Steel Watchers and Flaming Fist Guards as they are in control of Gortash.
That’s all from our side for BG3 Where is Gortash guide. Now, you know that Gortash is an NPC who can be found in Act III at Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. But, reaching him is not an easy thing. He is one of the strongest and overly protected NPCs.
His fortress is protected by many of his guards and some giant mechanical guards as well. Also, the building is protected with various, this is to make sure that trespassers receive huge damage.
You have to make Gortash lose his protection by disabling Steel Watchers. This can be done from Steel Watch Foundry which is located within the city.
