Locating the Main Vault in Baldur’s Gate 3
It’s not only about finding those vaults, these vaults are secured with a lock that requires a key. Each vault and safe in Counting House of BG3 including Vault 9 has a separate key and each one of them is found at a different spot.
Also, just to let you know the Vault 9 is located within the giant vault. You must obtain the key to this vault 9 by pickpocketing Rakath Glitterbeard.

Locating Counting House
Let’s make our way to the Counting House. The Counting House is located in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate 3. This small city is full of fun quests and puzzles such as the ones you are going to find in the Counting House.
Now, once you are in the Lower City of BG3, you have to look for the Counting House, that’s the place where you are going to find out the Vault 9 and the other vaults. The Counting House is located on the Southern part of the Lower City, the coordinates to the house are X-Axis: -98 and Y-Axis: -148. Follow the coordinates and you will be in the Counting House.
Locating the Vaults & Safes in Counting House
As we know Counting House has not just a single vault but there are many vaults including the Vault 9 and the biggest vault of the house that is secured with a puzzle and a secret code. But, first of all, you need to get access to the house in order to freely roam around the house and the vault area.
As soon as you enter the Counting House, talk to Head Clerk Meadhoney to get your pass for the Counting House and Vaults area. Also, pass the Intimidation, Persuasion, or Deception checks.
Once you have done that, it’s time to find the vaults.
The Main Vault
Before we move on to the regular vaults in the Counting House, let’s just first get our hands on the mighty vault. This vault requires you to complete a puzzle to open the gate. The main vault is located at the end of the corridor.
This vault is secured with a code that can be entered using the puzzle that is on the floor. But, first, you need the code. This can be found on the second floor of the Head Banker’s Office. All you need to do is get in the office and look for the book, this book should be stating about some events. Read the book and it will tell you the code which is 1-3-5-6.
Opening the Vault
Now that you have obtained the code, head back to the corridor where the puzzle is located. Here, you have to ungroup your party members. This is because each of your party members is going to stand on the number that is in the code.
Make sure that the members step on the puzzle in order. Such as the first member is going to step on the number 1 (top left plate) on the ground. Then the second member steps on the number 3 (top right plate), the third member steps on the number 5 (middle plate in second row), and lastly, the fourth member is going to step on the number 6 (right plate in second row).
Fighting with Minsc
As you enter the vault, Minsc will be waiting for you and he will suddenly start a fight. Before the fight starts, some Bhaal Cultists will also spawn for the fight, they are quite powerful and are dangerous.
Your opponents will have the ability to become invisible and they can stun your party members. But, don’t worry if Jaheria is on your side then you can simply make use of the Ice Storm spell to defeat them all.
Now, that you have cleared the area from the threats, it’s time to loot all the stuff in the vault. Besides the regular loot within the vault, there is a chest that contains more valuable items such as Elegant Studded Leather and other stuff.
The Vaults in Counting House
Now, we should move towards the 9 vaults of Counting House. These vaults contain various items that can help you throughout the game. Each of these vaults is secured with locks that require keys. Here is the stuff about the vaults and their keys.
Vault #1
The key required to open the first vault in Counting House can be looted from Captain Grisly. He is in the Blushing Mermaid, you have to use the pickpocket action to grab the vault key. Once you have got the key, you can easily open the vault.
In Vault #1, you will find items such as a Spell Servant Amulet, Nymph Cloak, and 40 Gold.
Vault #2
Now, the key for the second vault is being held by Lady Jannath. Head to Lady Jannath’s Estate where you will find her roaming freely. Get close to her without being spotted and pickpocket her to get the key.
This key is used to open the Vault #2 in Counting House. Once you have opened the vault, it will contain the Passionate Nights Book, Jannath’s Hat, Gold Pendant, Gold Necklace, Perfumed Days, Gold Ring, Verdelite Ring, and 80 Gold.
Vault #3
The key to the third vault is hidden in Cazador Szarr’s coffin. This coffin is placed in the Szarr Palace. Enter the palace and head to the end of the palace where you will see the coffin. Open the coffin and it will have the key of Vault #3.
Now, head to the third vault and use the key to open the vault. You will get items such as Long Arm of the Gur, Gold Pendant, Gold Necklace, Verdelite Ring, Peridot Ring, Gold Ring, Silver Amulet, and 80 Gold.
Vault #4
The fourth vault in Counting House is also locked and it requires a key to unlock it. This key is hidden in a chest in the Water Queen’s House. Open the chest to obtain the key.
Take the key back to the fourth vault and open it, you will get items such as Pearl Necklace, Trident of the Waves, and 40 Gold.
Vault #5
Now, the key to the fifth vault is in the corpse of Lord Enver Gortash. You can find him on the top floor of Wyrm Rock Fortress. Search the corpse to get the key. With this key, you can unlock the vault and obtain items such as Father’s Diary, Ravegard’s Scourger, and 80 Gold.
Vault #6

Vault #8
The key to the eighth is a bit challenging to obtain. You have to win a fight against Viconia DeVir. Once she is dead loot her corpse to obtain the key to her personal Chest. Now, break into the House of Grief.
Head to the Dormitory where you can search for the Jewelry Box on a dresser. Use the key you found earlier to open the box. It will contain the Counting House Vault 8 Key and some other items.
Now, head back to Vault 8 where you can use the key. This vault contains items such as Amethyst Ring, Silver Band, Sapphire, Diamond, Silver Necklace, Onyx Ring, Patriar Blackmail Flies, Skeletons in Patriar Closets Book, and 40 Gold.
Vault #9
Now, the main vault is vault 9, everyone keeps asking where is vault 9 in BG3. Well, this last vault is located within the high-security giant vault that we have covered earlier. This vault contains high-value items such as Rare Light Armor and Elegant Studded Leather.
The key to this vault is kept by Rakath Glitterbeard, who pickpockets him to obtain the key and use it on the ninth vault.

How Do You Get Into The High-Security Vault in BG3?

There is a code hidden behind those tiles. The code to open the doors is 1356. So, you are going to press those tiles in order. First off, stand on the top left tile, then the top right tile, then the middle tile of the second row, and finally stand on the right tile of the second row.
After pressing the tiles in the above manner, the door will be opened and you can enter into the vault.
