There are many side-quests in Hogwarts Legacy. For instance, most side quests require you to visit the farthest corner of the map and collect the rarest items. So, if you really want an in-depth immersion, you should complete all main and side quests in your first playthrough.
The Birds of a Feather side quest is among the easiest quests, but it comes with a bit of confusion. Therefore, this Birds of a Feather Walkthrough Guide covers all the major and minor details you should remember.
Birds of a Feather Quest Walkthrough
Marianne Moffett offers the Birds of a Feather quest. She is worried about the rare Albino Diricawl, Gwyneira. She fears that this special bird may become the victim of poachers. So, she wants you to capture the bird and keep it somewhere safe in order to protect it.
Sounds simple, right? Well, there are a few minor details that you should consider to complete all objectives of this side quest. Here’s how to complete the Birds of a Feather:
Pre-requisites:
- You should complete the Tomes and Tribulations and The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom main quests.
- Capturing the rare bird requires a Nab-Sack, which you can only obtain by completing The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom main quest.
- By the time you complete these quests, you will also have the Disillusionment spell and the Wingardium Leviosa spell.
- Alternatively, you can also capture the bird with the Glacius and the Arresto Momentum spells. However, for these spells, you must complete Madam Kogawa’s first 2 assignments.
- Activate the Marunweem Floo Flame fast travel point and explore the surrounding areas south of the Tomb of Treachery to unlock the Diricawl den.
- Lastly, character level 13 is recommended for this quest, though you can still start it at lower levels.
Starting the Birds of a Feather
The first step in the Birds of a Feather walkthrough is to locate the quest giver, Marianne Moffett. You can easily find her by fast traveling to the Marunweem Floo Flame. Start at the Flame and head northeast till you find a woman throwing birdfeed on the ground.
Speak with Marianne to learn about the special Diricawl bird and how poachers endanger it. Next, she will task you with capturing the bird to prevent it from getting kidnapped.
Diricawl Den Location Birds of a Feather
Marianne Moffett will give you the bird’s den location. You can easily reach this den by traveling to the paw icon on the world map.
To find the den, activate the side quest from the menu. Next, use the Broom to fly east from the Marunweem Floo Flame or head southwest from the Tomb of Treachery, as shown in the picture:
Capture Gwyneira:
The next step is to find and capture the special bird. However, they only spawn during the nighttime. So, if you arrive at the den during the daytime, you should use the wait button on the world map to change the time.
Next, use the Disillusionment spell to become invisible; this makes it easier to approach the bird without startling it. Also, use the Revelio spell to locate all birds in the area and search near the nest. If you aim at it for a few seconds, the required bird’s name will appear on the screen.
Once you locate Gwyneira, you can capture it by two methods. The bird can teleport short distances to get away from you. So, the goal is to immobilize its movements.
For this purpose, you can use the Leviosa spell to elevate it into the air or the Glacius and the Arresto Momentum spells to hold it in one place. However, for the second method, you should complete Madam Kogawa’s first two assignments.
After stunning Gwyneira, bring out your Nab-Sack. It would be best to allocate it in one of the spell slots to save some time. The bird has 4 meters that you must fill with the Nab-Sack to capture it.
However, if you aren’t fast enough on your first attempt, you can always use the Disillusionment spell and find the bird again to restart the process.
Keep the Gwyneira?
Once you have successfully captured Gwyneira, your work in the den is completed. However, you can also stay and capture the remaining Diricawls for gold galleons or xp.
Next, return to Marianne Moffett by heading northeast from the Marunweem Floo Flame. After speaking with the lady, you can either hand over the bird or keep it for yourself.
Here, your choice will affect the reward and also her reaction. After making your decision, the Birds of a Feather quest will be completed, and you will receive one of the following rewards:
Option | Result |
Yes. | 300 Galleons |
I’m keeping her. | Gwyneira the Diricawl Beast reward |
It will cost you. | 500 Gold reward |
Keep in mind there is no way to get both rewards from this quest. In other words, you must choose between 500 Gold and Gwyneira as your reward.
Although, if you do decide to keep her, you will get an earful from Marianne. She likely doesn’t have the bird’s best interest at heart, and most players choose to keep the bird.
There are some hints that Marianne isn’t exactly the best place for Gwyneira, but the choice is still ultimately yours.
Conclusion:
The side quests in Hogwarts Legacy can be rewarding and fun to complete. However, most of these quests require you to explore the large open world. For instance, the Birds of a Feather side quest can only be completed after exploring Marunweem and its surrounding areas.
Furthermore, you must also acquire the Nab-Sack, the Disillusionment spell, and the Leviosa spell to complete the quest. Still, a few points can completely alter your experience with this quest. Therefore, this article provides the best Birds of a Feather Walkthrough along with the outcome of your choices.
