No matter what anyone tells you or believes from watching gameplays or recommendations, the truth is that The Cycle: Frontier is not an easy game at all. You may think that you have experience in this type of game or that you will immediately kill everyone as soon as you get your first weapon. But, sooner rather than later you will realize that this is not the case.
The truth is that as soon as you start playing you will die many times. You will lose loot that cost you a lot of effort to find and you will be betrayed more than once if you are not prepared. But don’t worry! In this The Cycle: Frontier Survival Guide for Beginners, we will cover the basics you need to know before entering this adventure. You will see that in a matter of time you will be the one to fear.
Table of Contents
First setup
To start playing, you should be well prepared. The main thing is to equip yourself with armor, a helmet, and a backpack. Remember that you can also purchase random items for free every 24 hours.
It is also important that you also bring some First-aids, but keep in mind that you will only be able to use them once. The 15 healing points will save you from many problems at the beginning. Later, when you get more experience, new paths will open up with much better items.
Remember that you also need a weapon. Although if you don’t have enough money for this, it is not totally necessary to buy a good one. Keep in mind that you can also modify or upgrade them, but it is best not to do so because you will lose them in the attempt. Last but not least, don’t forget the ammo!
Start of the game
Remember that the game may be just starting for you, but the server is active much earlier and, possibly, so are its inhabitants. When you land on the map, it is very likely that there will be other players watching you.
The first thing you should do is to get away from the capsule as fast as you can. Because if you stay, in a few seconds it will become your grave. Also be careful at nearby extraction sites, as there are probably other players who will calculate that you are going there and will be waiting for you. This is not a very productive thing for those players. But, many people don’t care, as they play only to kill other players.
General rules for surviving while traveling
Unless you are playing with a group you already know, NEVER trust anyone. You can loot many places with another player, save his life, and even want to share the loot, but that person will surely kill you as soon as he has a good chance to do so.
Also, remember that there are a lot of snipers around. Ideally, you should always assume that there is one aiming at you, so try to be as unpredictable as possible and never stand still or walk in straight lines.
You should always be aware of your stamina regeneration and, more importantly, ALWAYS keep your ears open to your surroundings. Being aware of this can be the difference between hiding from a wounded player or trying to fight whatever you hear and finding yourself being killed by a group of three players.
For transportation, the players’ favorite mode of transport is the monorail. Although it is the best option for a long trip, it is not without its dangers. Remember that the longer you stay on it, the more likely it is that sooner or later other hunters will hear you and come after you. In these cases, the best (and least used) option is the river system. Rivers are a great tool for getting from one place to another. Especially when you first start playing, so don’t hesitate to use them.
The loot
When you get to the point you expected, the adventure is not over. If there is loot nearby, there will surely be enemies too. Don’t go running to collect it, stay still, listen to your surroundings, and be on the lookout for monsters, snipers, or large groups waiting for their victims to go. If you find another player desperately going to the location, perfect! You have excellent bait.
The most important thing in these cases is that you don’t make any noise, because if someone quieter who was nearby heard you, he is probably calculating how to kill you. If you have a bad feeling, it’s best to turn around and walk away. Follow your instincts, if you think you heard someone nearby, you probably did.
The more experience you get in the game, the faster you will realize that the main thing about the game is not the loot, but how you interact with other players. If you are aware of this, when a player is running desperately for loot and stumbles upon another player who was waiting to rob him, you will be that other player.
Bestiary
Monsters in this game are not usually a problem until you encounter three beasts that will give you a lot of headaches.
Jeff
Avoid Jeff at all costs. You will usually find this beast guarding an entrance or near some loot. If you see him, don’t even bother trying to kill him. This beast is a bullet sponge that can finish you off in just a few seconds. If you think you can kill it, don’t do it either. All the noise will attract the attention of other characters who will not hesitate to kill you and then him and then take your loot. The best thing to do is to find an alternate path or try to sneak away.
Striders
These small enemies can be in packs, before attacking them, always look around. If you have some cover, take advantage of it. Approach these creatures while their backs are turned, always crouch low and with your knife in hand. If you manage to get behind them, you can kill them in one hit. But don’t be too impulsive and make sure they don’t see you, because if they do, you’ll be in trouble.
Rattler
The key to killing these spiders is to aim for their eyes but to tell the truth, you shouldn’t even get this far. If you see them fighting other beasts, leave them alone and run away. Be careful when they try to spit at you from behind, remember to turn around and shoot them whenever you can and only while escaping.
There is no science in the best way to escape from the monsters: just run. If you run out of stamina, don’t panic. What you should do in these cases is simply hide, avoid making any noise and get ready to run again. If you get too far away from their spawn point, they will simply stop chasing you and return to their original spawn point.
