Hawezar is a late-game region in Diablo 4 where most of Act IV takes place. It is a majestic place which mainly consists of marshes and windy highlands. Moreover, it is also home to some of the deadliest foes, a giant snake boss, and 3 strongholds. Players who wish to max out their stats must earn renown points by liberating these strongholds.
However, the game doesn’t lead you directly to these locations. Instead, you must search on your own and make your way to these captured encampments. Furthermore, each stronghold requires you to complete certain tasks based on the lore behind these camps before you can face the actual boss of these outworld dungeons.
Therefore, this article provides all stronghold locations in Hawezar, their backstories, and the best strategies to liberate them.
All Strongholds in Hawezar:
Like all other regions of Diablo 4, Hawezar is home to 3 strongholds. Each of these locations has been captured by evil forces who have enslaved or killed their native inhabitants. So, your objective is to find the source of corruption in each of these areas and liberate them by defeating the commander in charge (the boss).
The only problem is that you must figure out the strategy on your own. So, here’s how to liberate all strongholds in the Hawezar region of Diablo 4:
Eriman’s Pyre Stronghold:
Recommended Level: 35+
Location: Northwestern corner of the Hawezar Region, near the Cinder Wastes.
Boss: Duz’Agur, Eriman’s Bane
Rewards:
- Unlocks the Oblivion Dungeon
- +100 Hawezar Renown
Eriman’s Pyre is a burning village located in the northwestern corner of the Hawezar Region. It used to be a peaceful village until the villagers made a terrible mistake. They burnt a villager named Eriman alive for some reason. As a result, the whole village has been burning under the curse for several decades, and Eriman’s Spirit still roams around this Pyre. Your objective is to explore the village, speak with Eriman’s Spirit, and extinguish the cursing flame. You can reach this village by going east of the Dismal Foothills between The Writhing Mire until you reach the Cinder Wastes in the northwestern corner of Hawezar, as shown in the picture:
- Explore the region near the Pyre to find Eriman’s Spirit. Next, defeat all Fallen Foes and speak with Eriman.
- Shortly after the dialogue, a small group of enemies will attack you, followed by a Fallen Overseer Elite; defeating the Elite will drop Villager’s Remains.
- Your next goal is to extinguish all 4 fire walls by placing the Villagers’ Remains in the respective Fiery Focuses. Here’s how to extinguish the flame walls:
- Grab the first Villager’s Remains and place it in a Fiery Focus near the central Pyre; doing so will extinguish the northwestern flame.
- Next, head to the northwestern section of the village, defeat Xazzonnosh Taintspawn, an Elite Overseer, and return to the Pyre.
- Again, place the Remains in the second Fiery Focus and head to the northeastern section of the village to face Syn Wretchbane and grab the second Villager’s Remains.
- After placing the third Remains in the Fiery Focus, head southeast, defeat Chomz Thunderdancer, and grab the fourth Villager’s Remains.
- Finally, place the Remains in the final Fiery Focus and go southwest and defeat the Mal’gushu Boltcrawler Elite Overseer to drop the final Villager’s Remains.
- At this point, most of the village’s flame will be extinguished, and it is time to face the final boss.
- So, return to the center of the village and place the Remains in the Pyre to unleash Duz’Agur, Eriman’s Bane.
- After defeating Duz’Agur, head to the northwestern section of the village to light up the Wanderer’s Shrine and liberate Eriman’s Pyre Stronghold.
Crusader’s Monument Stronghold:
Recommended Level: 35+
Location: Western corner of the Hawezar Region, near the Bastion of Faith Dungeon.
Boss: Crusader Champions
Rewards:
- +100 Hawezar Renown
The Crusader’s Monument is a historical place where the 3 Crusader Champions rest in peace. The Ritual Brazier was also built in memory of the fallen crusaders of the Zakarum crusade. For many years, this was a sacred place that gave courage and hope to the warriors. However, it was abandoned and became the bounty grounds for Graverobbers, looking to make a quick buck. With no one to protect these sacred corpses, the champions undertook the duty of protecting their fallen brothers in their own hands.
As a result, the 3 sacred champions, along with several Vengeful Spirits, have been killing anyone who dares to come near these sacred grounds. So, your objective is to collect the skulls of the champions from Graverobbers, cleanse them at the Brazier, and defeat the rogue Crusaders. You can find the Crusader’s Monument by going north from the Bastion of Faith Dungeon in the western portion of Hawezar, as shown in the picture:
- As soon as you enter the premises of the Monument, you will get ambushed by several Vengeful Spirits. After defeating these lesser enemies, look for the first Graverobber’s corpse and collect the first Crusader’s Skull.
- Next, head to the Ritual Brazier and cleanse the skull. Doing so will wake Sir Trystan, who mistakes you for another Graverobber and attacks you immediately.
- After defeating the first champion, explore around to find 3 more Crusaders’ Skulls.
- You can easily spot the Graverobbers’ corpses as they are always surrounded by a bunch of Vengeful Spirits.
- After collecting each skull, return to the Ritual Brazier and repeat the process for facing Dame Maryam and Sir Morholt, and Sir Thom.
- After defeating all 4 champions, return to the Crusader’s Monument, where the final encounter will begin.
- Here, you will face all 3 Crusader Champions either simultaneously or one at a time, depending on the fight’s length.
- Firstly, Sir Thom will attack you, followed by Dame Maryam, and finally, Sir Morholt. In most cases, you might need to face the last 2 Champions at the same time, so be quick in dispatching the Sir Morholt as well as the Spirits.
- Finally, after defeating all 3 Champions, go southwest from the Ritual Brazier to light up the Wanderer’s Shrine and liberate the Crusader’s Monument Stronghold.
Vyeresz Stronghold:
Recommended Level: 42+
Location: Southern corner of the Hawezar Region, near the Ruins of Eridu Dungeon
Boss: Dianthus
Rewards:
- Unlocks a new Waypoint in the region with some shops and side quests.
- Unlocks the Shadowed Plunge dungeon.
- +20 Hawezar Renown (Waypoint Unlocked)
- +100 Hawezar Renown (Stronghold Conquered)
Vyeresz was a peaceful village in the southern portion of the Hawezar Region in Diablo 4. However, the village has been overtaken by the cultists of a snake god who petrified the villagers and claimed the village for Dianthus, the final boss.
So, your goal is to investigate the site, kill all cultists and the petrified villagers, open the Snake Eye Door, and defeat the commanding leader. You can find this in the Vyeresz village by going south from the Ruins of Eridu Dungeon in the western corner of the region, as shown in the picture:
- Once you enter the Vyeresz village, you will be attacked by snake demons, cultists, and petrified villagers.
- After dealing with these foes, make your way to the center of the village, where you will find a large door locked by 3 snake eyes.
- This door will remain locked until you destroy their corresponding Serpent’s Eye Pedestals. Here’s how to find and destroy them:
- The first Serpent’s Eye Pedestal is right outside the Snake Eye Door. However, it is surrounded by petrified cultists, so kill them before destroying the Pedestal.
- Next, head northwest from the Serpent Eye Door until you find a large hut. Head inside the hut, kill the cultists and Rikrad, an Elite, before destroying the second Serpent’s Eye Pedestal.
- Finally, head back to the Snake Eye door and go east to find the third Serpent’s Eye Pedestal inside another large hut. Again, defeat all petrified soldiers and Vescir, an Elite Cultist, before destroying the final Pedestal.
- After destroying all 3 Serpent’s Eye Pedestals, return to the Snake Eye Door and interact with it to open the way forward.
- The door will take 50 seconds to open, and hordes of petrified cultists and Nagari Longfang elites will keep attacking you. So, you must survive for the whole 50 seconds before you can enter the final boss arena.
- Finally, go inside the structure and take the straight path to face Dianthus right after the Healing Well.
- You can also take the southern path to find the Altar of Lilith before returning to the original path.
- After defeating Dianthus, explore the battle arena to light up the Wanderer’s Shrine and liberate the Vyeresz Stronghold.
