Diablo 4 has finally arrived, with several classes for players to choose from. Among the ones playable are the Sorcerer, Barbarian, and Rogue. Necromancer and Druid have also finally been released!
After playing the beta for several hours with each class and looking at various Reddit and forum posts, I can comfortably say which class is the absolute best and which is the worst. In this article, I will rank all three of the available Diablo 4 classes from best to worst and explain my reasoning for each.
This will be updated because of the game’s release. We haven’t seen what the end-game looks like yet, so we don’t have full information yet.
What is the BEST class in Diablo 4?
The Sorcerer class is the best and strongest class in Diablo 4. Not only do Sorcerers have the advantage of being ranged and mobile over the other two classes, but they also have an incredibly strong Sorcerer build that is super easy to use.
I think most people would agree; if you’re looking for the best DPS, choose Sorcerer. They don’t even need good gear to be broken.
Sorcerer | S Tier |
Barbarian | S Tier |
Rogue | A Tier |
Necromancer | B Tier |
Druid | A Tier |
S Tier: Sorcerer
Let’s just be honest with ourselves. The Sorcerer is by far the best class available in Diablo 4 right now.
From what I’ve heard from other Sorcerers (and my own experience), the Chain Lightning build for the Sorcerer is just stupidly strong. You don’t need gear; you don’t need skill; you just need fingers to press the buttons.
Even on the harder difficulty of world 2, most Sorcerers think the game is too easy. I can quickly tell who is playing what class by the type of reviews they leave or posts they make on the forums/Reddit. If they say the game is easy, they play Sorcerer; if they say the game is crazy hard, they’re definitely a Barb.
A Tier Necromancer
The Necromancer is a fan favorite from Diablo 3, making its return in Diablo 4. While it wasn’t available during the closed beta, many people are finally getting their hands on it and showing just how powerful the class is.
During the beta Necromancer was super broken, but after enough nerfs, the Necromancer isn’t quite as good. The OP blood build was massively nerfed (rightly so) and the minions have been nerfed a few times as well.
Still, you can be super powerful, all you need is the right Necromancer build.
Right now the Necro is still good and can rest comfortably in the A tier.
A Tier: Druid
Just like the Necromancer, the Druid class wasn’t available during closed beta. That being said, now that we finally have access to it, it turns out the Druid is pretty freaking good.
Druids don’t quite have the insane DPS as Sorcerers or Necromancers, but they can hold their own pretty well. They have a unique mechanic only available to them called Crushing Blow (that does a percent of an enemy’s HP), and the ability to shapeshift into many different forms.
I’d highly recommend Druids if you’re looking for a melee class that performs better than both Rogues and Barbs.
A Tier: Rogue
Somewhere between the top S tier and the dire depths of B Tier lies the Rogue. The Rogue class can be ranged or melee, giving it flexibility not offered to Sorcerers or Barbarians.
Certain boss fights are very punishing for melee classes, making the Rogue slightly better than the Barbarian when these difficult fights arise. Being able to quickly swap between a ranged build and a melee build is the main reason I placed the Rogue here.
On the difficult world 2, you can’t get away with being a bad player and playing a melee class. Unlike the Sorcerer/Sorceress, you actually need some decent gear for most boss fights. But again, the Rogue gets the option to avoid all that nonsense.
S Tier: Barbarian
Where to start with Barbarians. Of the three classes available, Barbarians are decidedly the worst class, a sentiment shared by most people. But only for the early game.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the Barbarian can’t be strong. They certainly can be. However, Barbarians struggle immensely when it comes to beating some of the harder bosses. Having to duck and dodge every boss mechanic, all so you can hit the boss for a few seconds and then run away screaming, isn’t exactly the type of gameplay I was looking for when playing a class named “Barbarian.”
But, once you finally get to the late game, or at least the mid-game, Barbarians are the most broken class. Even after several nerfs, the Barb can get ridiculously tanky with almost zero CD on shouts that all give you massive damage reduction and insane damage bonuses.
You’ll need good builds for Barbarians to make them super strong, but oh boy are they crazy.
That said, once you get going, the Barbarian can be just as stupidly broken as anyone. Face tanking bosses and spamming stuns like a true brainless class. You’ll have a much harder time reaching that point than the other classes.
For reference: the first class I played was Barbarian. I went to the highest difficulty and didn’t find any part of the game that difficult until I reached the first few bosses. Until then, I could face tank everything without worrying about mechanics. I died on the first boss once and the final boss 2-3 times. I haven’t died a single time on any other class.
Now, I wouldn’t make this D4 tier list just based on my own assumptions or skill. I did actually do some research to see what people were saying before I made an article that said, “my class sucks; yours is broken! wah!”
Of course, regardless of what I think, you might have a different opinion or playstyle preference.
So, that’s it for our Diablo 4 class tier list. Do you agree with our ranking of the classes? Maybe you think that Sorcerer sucks and Barbs rule. Either way, let us know in the comments, and good luck in Diablo 4!
