Dust Sprites Guide Stardew Valley

This article serves as a guide to dust sprites in Stardew Valley, and explains all you need to know about them.

If you ever think that playing Stardew Valley and living as one of the villagers is just peace and harmony, you better start thinking again. Sure, the whole Pelican Town is full of nice people that make your stay there comfortable and fun, but as you wander outside the town, you eventually encounter different creatures, both harmful and not.

One of the monsters that will serve as your enemy is the Dust Sprite. Just like any other enemies, they are enemies who can harm and eventually kill you. Having said that, you should not be swayed by their cute and squishy appearance.

When idle, you can see these Dust Sprites bouncing in their place and chirping together. However, when they happen to spot you, they will immediately come after you.

Once you happen to have contact with one of them, it will instantly deal you damage. In fact, they can even break rocks on their way just to come after you. But you don’t have to worry since they are easy to defeat. It’s just that they go to you in packs, so you can technically consider them bullies.

As you explore further, you will not only see those small, black, and circular Dust Sprites. If you think that dealing with them is just a piece of cake, then you must look after these mushroom-looking creatures.

This is the dangerous variant of the Dust Sprite. They are just similar to the normal ones. They also chirp and bounce in place while idle. The only difference is their appearance and the base damage and HP. Since this is a dangerous variant, it is just right to expect that these are more difficult to kill.

Where to Find Dust Sprites

where to find dust sprites

Now that you already know how dangerous Dust Sprites might be, it is just right for you to know where you can find these cute, little, deadly creatures.

To find these Dust Sprites, simply go to The Mines. It is located in the northern part of The Mountains and northeast of Robin’s Carpenter’s Shop. You might be wondering now why it is vital that you also know the location of these creatures. The answer to that is both for your safety and for gathering resources.

First, you must know this for your safety. If you haven’t learned that Dusk Sprites live in the Mines, you might get caught off guard if you went out to gather some stones or geodes. All the resources that you have collected might just go to waste if you happen to explore this location without bringing a weapon.

The next reason why you should know the spawn location of Dusk Sprites is because taking them down grants you some valuable resources. If you happen to need some extra resources, you can just go and explore inside The Mines and farm Dusk Sprites. In fact, their nature of going together as packs is actually an advantage for you if you are well-equipped. Why? Because the more Dusk Sprites you encounter, the more resources you can get.

However, for you to encounter the dangerous variant of the Dust Sprite, you must first activate the Shrine of Challenge or during the Danger In The Deep quest.

Specifically, normal Dust Sprites are found on floors 41 to 79. While dangerous Dust Sprites can be found on floors 41 to 69.

Dust Sprite Drops

Dust Sprites are a good source of resources that are important for you to complete quests, donations, and even gifts to your villager friends. Both the normal and dangerous Dust Sprites have the same sets of loot drops.

Here is a list of all the items that you can get from Dust Sprites, and the chances to get them:

  • Coal: 50%
  • Crystal Fruit: 2%
  • Frozen Tear: 2%
  • Coffee Bean: 1%
  • Dwarf Scroll II: 0.5%
  • Dwarf Scroll IV: 0.1 %
  • Gold Bar: 0.1%

As you can see, the main resource item that you can get from defeating Dust Sprites is coal. That being said, if you are looking for a good amount of coal, you can just head over to The Mines and go fighting these small monsters.

Monster Eradication Goal

Located on the eastern part of The Mines, you can see there the Adventurer’s Guild. You can unlock this by completing the story quest called Initiation. Here, you can buy weapons, boots, and rings to increase your overall player stats. But aside from that, you can also accomplish the Monster Eradication Goals to get some awesome rewards.

To complete the Monster Eradication Goal for the Dust Sprites, you must take down 500 Dust Sprites of any kind to claim the Burglar’s Ring. Doing this is actually like hitting two birds with one stone–you collect enough resources while you also get to accomplish this goal. However, you must be well-equipped in doing this challenge. Otherwise, you will get knocked out immediately.

Strategy for Defeating Dust Sprites

fighting dust sprites

If you ever brave yourself in battling Dust Sprites, you must first familiarize the enemy you are about to encounter, as well as their nature.

You already know that the Dust Sprites are bouncy and will get close to you once you are seen. With that information, we can instantly say that ranged weapons are not for this. This leaves us with melee weapons as the only option.

However, some weapons, such as clubs, are too heavy and can give you a movement speed debuff. With that, you can choose from either a dagger or a sword in fighting them. Needless to say that these weapons can give you buffs for movement speed, critical chance, and armor.

Now, that you already know the best weapon to counter these, let’s move on to the play style. Since bringing either a dagger or a sword can give you an armor buff, the best thing you can do is to corner the enemies and start swinging your weapon. Doing this will prevent them from bouncing on the walls and dodging your attacks.
