From Software’s new game is full of OP builds, whether based on bleed, madness, or others. If not the most versatile, the most impressive is undoubtedly the one that allows you to cast a devastating spell that will wipe out everything in its path.
If there is any proof that the difficulty of Elden Ring is related to the tools you accept or do not use, it is the One-Shot Mage Build. By equipping yourself in a very specific way and accumulating many temporary bonuses, it is possible to cast a devastating magic beam that will reduce bosses to ashes, especially those in the open world.
The Pros of The Mage Build
- Huge magic damage that kills many bosses in seconds.
- Very fun to play
- No need to know how to play
- Can compensate for weaknesses with the summons or in multiplayer
The Cons of Mage Build
- Can only be fully used once between each break.
- It will take you time to get it
- Almost completely useless on many bosses
- Equipment very dependent on its parts
- Almost unusable in PvP
How to Play?
The concept is very simple, you will cast some upgrades and then cast a channeled spell for a few seconds before the boss has time to react or kill you. The damage is such that it dies before you have anything else to do. Therefore, it is very simple to play, but first, you must find the right equipment, besides, this build is completely inappropriate against bosses and enemies that dodge spells, or that do not give you time to perform the actions required to cast the comet.
We will detail all the equipment later, but the actions to perform are as follows:
1. summon your spirits (especially on dungeon bosses) to distract the boss. This step can be postponed if you run out of CP to summon it.
2. Cast the spell Magic Dominion.
3. Use the Contagious Rage ability of the Medusa Shield.
4. Use her Vial of Medium with the correct crystal tears inside, which necessarily includes the one that reduces all CP costs to zero for 10 seconds.
5. Cast the Comet Azur spell on your target and channel the spell until the target dies, or runs out.
Build One Shot Wizard
– Suggested starting class: Astrologer
– Suggested starting gift: Golden Seed
Attributes
– Vigor: Not important with this build. But you will need to invest points in it to progress normally between bosses, and especially for bosses where this build doesn’t work. Look for 50-60 points but in the long run.
– Spirit: In theory, you can be satisfied with the initial score, but for comfort reasons, go up to 30 points and more once you’ve reached the recommended limits.
– Stamina: You don’t really need it.
– Strength: You need 20 Strength to use the shield specific to this build. You can reach it with a few points and a strength talisman or two. You can also settle for 10 Strength and use a normal shield.
– Dexterity: Not very useful unless you invest tons of points in it.
– Intelligence: 70 is a good threshold to aim for, no use going over 80.
– Faith: Useless
– Arcane: Useless
Some of the equipment used by this build is obtained by completing the Sellen quest series.
Build Equipment
– Vial Cast: To kill a boss with this build, you won’t use any. But if you want to play normally, look for a proper balance between healing ones, and CP ones according to your level of play.
– Weapon: The best staff is Lusat’s shard staff, found on the boss after lighting the braziers at the top of Sellia’s towers in Caelid. Try to upgrade it as much as possible with umbra stones. It will increase the cost of your spells by 50%, but the damage will also increase in return.
– Ashes of war: None, we will use the shield ability.
– Shield: Medusa’s Shield: a large shield found in the ruins of a wagon on the way west of Liurnia, a little north of the 4 bell towers. Its ability increases all damage by 20% for 30 seconds. But you have to keep it equipped to benefit from the bonus. You can hold it with both hands if necessary while casting its ability.
– Armor: only the helmet counts for this build, use the blue shard stone mask, a character closely related to this build. It increases the damage of blue spells, but also their CP cost. If obtaining it is not an option, use the best shard stone mask available.
– Spells: Theoretically you only need 2 spells, the first one is Magic Mastery, found in the tower located after the Crystal bosses in the dungeon annex of Crystal Cavern, under Raya Lucaria’s academy. It displays a magic mark on the ground that greatly increases spell damage while you are on it. The second is the Comet Azur, obtained by talking to Azur, the original wizard of Mount Gelmir.
– Summoning Ashes: Preferably melee and aggressive summons, to keep the boss and his possible allies busy long enough to cast your spell.
– Major Rune: Godrick
– Crystal Tears of the Miraculous Medium: Finally, you need specific crystals in your potion for this build to work. As you may have seen, the damage bonuses are cumulative, but they have the annoying tendency to increase the CP cost of a spell that will also suck up your mana at full speed. It is almost impossible to cast Comet Azur long enough to kill the boss in normal times. Fortunately, there is a crystal that will reduce all CP costs to 0 for 10 seconds, allowing you to channel the spell during this period: Cerulean Crystal Tear. It sits on the putrid root at the foot of the lesser world tree on Mount Gelmir. For your second crystal, the best choice is one that increases magic damage for 3 minutes. You can find it in the Avatar World Tree northeast of Liurnia.
