What are Giant Crops in Stardew Valley

How to Grow Giant Crops Stardew Valley

Stepping into the world of Stardew Valley will show you several impressive features that will leave you in awe. Even the most popular crops that you usually grow on your farm will surprise you once it grows bigger than its usual size. So, if you think seeing an alien passing by on your farm is strange enough, you probably had not seen the giant crops yet.

The giant crops are the normal seeds that grow into a 3×3 scale crop and can give you 15 to 21 crops upon harvesting.  There are only three crops that can grow as a giant, and each of them grows in a different season: cauliflower during spring, melon during summer, and pumpkin during fall. However, each day that these crops meet the criteria for becoming this big, there is only a 1% chance of growing into a giant version.

What’s even more interesting about giant crops is that they don’t wither upon changing the season.

If you have already progressed in the game, you might have already mastered the art of growing crops in Stardeww Valley. In terms of growing giant crops, the steps are basically just the same as the regular crops. But extra care and attention must be done.

That being said, here are the steps and additional information that you need to learn if you want to see a healthy and giant crop on your farm.

Prepare the Soil and Seeds

Crops Seeds

Just like growing a normal crop, you have to find a buy its seed first. All of the seeds of these crops can be purchased from JojaMart or from Pierre’s General Store. Make sure that the seed that you are buying is appropriate to the current season you are in, and that the quantity matches the required number of seeds which is at least 9 seeds.

Before you plant the seeds, make sure that 9 tiles of land are tilled and are in a 3×3 formation. Thus, it is possible to have a giant crop of a kind if the required number of crops are grown.

Arrange Properly

Planting Giant Crops

As mentioned, at least 9 crops must be planted and positioned in a 3×3 formation. It is better if there are also some crops of the same kind surrounding it. That way, there is more than one area that has a possibility of growing a giant crop.

Water Distribution

Watering Giant Crops

One of the most important things you need to understand and put more attention to is the water distribution. It is general knowledge that plants need water in order for them to grow healthily. That applies too in growing giant crops.

Sprinklers should be positioned in a way that they can cover all the crops including the centermost crop. If all the surrounding crops are well-hydrated yet the center seed cannot receive water, there is no chance for it to grow as a giant.

Harvest Time

We all know that the most awaited part of this situation is seeing the big vegetables on our farm and harvesting them. However, time and patience are some of the things that you must have in order to see your crops grow this big.

Once you have already seen the green plus sign which indicates that the crops are fully grown, do not get too excited and harvest them yet. You have to wait for a few more days and continue watering all of these crops until you finally see the giant version of your chosen crop.

On the other hand, if you are lucky enough to encounter the giant crop, make sure to prepare your axe. In this situation, you can’t harvest it normally as how you do with regular crops. You will need to use your axe to harvest it.

More Things You Need to Know

Now that you have learned all the basics of growing a giant crop, here is some more information that you need to consider to increase the chances of waking up to a giant pumpkin on your farm the next day.

Greenhouse, Ginger Island, and Garden Pots

Greenhouse

We all know that successfully having a giant crop on your farm might get too exciting which makes you want to grow more of it. That being said, you might think of trying other stunts to increase the probability of growing a giant crop. However, there are some places and areas that won’t actually work.

These places are inside the Greenhouse, on GInger Island, and on Garden Pots. Despite meeting all the requirements for growing giant crops, there will be no possibility that this will happen.

Upgrade Watering Can

Watering Can

One tip that you can find useful is upgrading your watering can. If you level up your watering can, you can simply long-press and water multiple tiles or rows. This is safer than watering the crops one by one. The reason is that you can accidentally pluck one of the crops instead of watering it. That way, you can save time while also preventing the chances of wasting your time in waiting for its growth.

Junimos

Junimos are friendly forest spirits that can live on your farm once you purchase and build Junimo Huts on your farm. Once this happens, these adorable spirits will automatically harvest the crops for you. However, you would not want that to happen in this case.

In order to prevent your Junimos from harvesting your crops right away is to place your crops in an area where the Junimos cannot reach them.

Place a Scarecrow

Another trick to protect your crops is to make sure there are scarecrows around the area. This prevents the crows from eating your precious crops into turning a big vegetable. You probably don’t want your crops to be destroyed in just a blink of an eye.

Eat a Food Buff (Farmer’s Lunch or Complete Breakfast)

If you have already grown your giant crop, make sure to eat a food buff first before you harvest. You can choose between a Farmer’s Lunch or a Complete Breakfast. This increases the chances of getting a higher quality product.
