Who is Gus in Stardew Valley?
Once you first step foot in the Pelican Town of Stardew Valley, the first thing you would probably think of is farming and everything about expanding and growing your farm. However, it is just right for you to know that villagers here do not solely prioritize the progress of their farms. These people also spend some of their leisure time drinking and socializing with other villagers. Having said that, the ideal place to do those activities would be in The Stardrop Saloon.
If you usually visit the saloon, you might get familiar with this man with a yellow coat. His name is Gus and is the owner of the Stardrop Saloon. As you would notice, Gus spends almost all of his time every day working inside the saloon to accommodate his usual and new customers. Despite his busy schedule, Gus does not forget the importance of having friends in the town, especially as a businessman. That being said, you can also befriend Gus like the other villagers around Pelican Town.
Gus’s Schedule
The first step in your goal of increasing your friendship with Gus is through knowing his schedule. The reason is that visiting and talking to villagers is the easiest way to increase your friendship level. That being said, here is a list of Gus’s schedules.
Fall 4
Even though he is a busy man, Gus still prioritizes his health and does not put aside his check-up days. He will start his day at 8:00 AM by sitting on the couch in his room. By 10:30 AM, he will go to the waiting room of the clinic and will look at the poster. He will be able to proceed to the left examination room by 1:30 PM. The check-up will end by 4:00 PM so he will go back to the saloon. He will then go to his bedroom by 12:00 AM.
Monday
On Mondays, Gus will leave his house, also known as his saloon, to go to Pierre’s General Store at 8:30 AM. He will be able to get back to his bar by 11:00 AM and will go straight to bed at 12:00 AM.
Tuesday when the Community Center was Repaired
During these days, you will find Gus sitting on his couch as early as 8:00 AM. After 30 minutes, he will head over to the kitchen in the Community Center. By 12:30 PM, he will go back to his saloon and will go tend to the customers. His bedtime will still be at 12:00 AM.
Sunday; Alex’s 14-Heart Event
Once you have already witnessed Alex’s 14 Hearts event, you will be able to encounter their schedule of Gus instead. As usual, he will start his day sitting on his couch at 8:00 AM. He will then proceed to the backroom of Stardrop Sallon and will head over to the bar to tend to the customers by 3:00 PM. He will work until it’s midnight and it’s time to go to bed.
Rainy Day
Some deviations also happen to their schedule, usually if it is a rainy day. However, Gus’s rainy days and regular schedule are just the same. His day will also start at 8:00 AM on his couch. By 12:00 PM, he will clean the glasses behind the bar and will proceed in tending the bar by 4:30 PM. His bedtime will be at 12:00 AM.
Meanwhile, if the Beach resort located on Ginger Island has already been unlocked, Gus will sometimes leave his bar and go there. Don’t worry as customers can still come and go because Gus will leave a cash box so that everyone can still purchase their favorite drinks here.
Relationships with Villagers
Gus is not one of the marriage bachelors, but he sure has his close friends, especially his regular customers. If you often visit the Stardrop Saloon, you might notice that Pam and Clint are some of his usual customers. Aside from these two, Gus is also close to Emily since she works at the saloon as a part-timer.

Anytime
Once you have already increased your friendship level with Gus, he will give you a recipe as a gift through your mail. These are the items that you can get from him: baked fish, bean hotpot, fish taco, omelet, pancakes, spaghetti, and vegetable medley.
The chance of receiving gifts from Gus will increase as you increase your friendship points with him.
Three Hearts
Once you have already increased your friendship level into three hearts, you will receive another recipe as a gift from Gus. This time, it would be a salmon dinner recipe.
Four Hearts
To trigger this heart event, you have to enter the Stardrop Saloon during open hours and while Gus is there. However, this will only happen if you already have two or more hearts with Pam.
As you enter the saloon, you will see Gus looking a bit down and when you ask him, he will tell you that the saloon is having a hard time financially. From his statement, he will reveal that one reason is that Pam is not paying her tab and he does not have the courage to confront her because they are friends. After that, Pam will enter the bar and will ask for a drink.
- You need to pay your tab right now! – reduces 50 friendship points
- The saloon isn’t doing well, financially. – adds 15 friendship points
Five Hearts
For you to see this event, you have to leave your farmhouse on a non-rainy day from 6:00 AM to 11:30 AM. You will then be able to meet Gus who will eventually give you a jukebox and a new recipe.
Seven Hearts
When you reach seven hearts of friendship with Gus, he will send you another recipe and it woul be for making the cranberry sauce.
