How to Breed Beasts in Hogwarts Legacy

In Hogwarts Legacy, you eventually get to collect and raise your own beasts. These beasts are found out in the wild and can be rescued back to your vivarium back in the room of requirement. Not only are these beasts a good source of gold in the early game, but they also provide ingredients for various recipes. So, obviously, having more is better.

This article will show you how to breed beasts in Hogwarts Legacy. Including what you need to start breeding them, all the different beasts you can breed, and how the mating works.

How to Breed Beasts

First, to breed beasts in Hogwarts Legacy, you will need to acquire a breeding pen and conjure it in your vivarium. To get a breeding pen, you will need to complete The Plight of the House-Elf quest, which unlocks a new vivarium and then complete the Foal of the Dead quest, which finally unlocks the breeding pen.

The quest will have you rescue a male and female thestral and purchase a breeding pen spellcraft from Tomes and Scrolls. This won’t be cheap, so hopefully, you have 1000 gold lying around; otherwise, you won’t be able to purchase the breeding pen. Then again, you can always sell some beasts to come up with the gold.

Once the prerequisites have been met, you just need one male beast (of the same species) and a female beast. Put them in the breeding pen, and voila, you have now bred beasts. Thirty minutes will pass, and you will have a new beast to keep or sell.

Before you can sell the new beast, make sure to use your nab-sack. If you don’t, you won’t have the beast in your inventory and can’t sell it.

All the different beasts you can breed

Here is a list of the beasts you can breed in Hogwarts Legacy:

  • Diricawl
  • Fwooper
  • Giant Purple Toad
  • Graphorn
  • Hippogriff
  • Jobberknoll
  • Kneazle
  • Mooncalf
  • Niffler
  • Puffskein
  • Thestral
  • Unicorn
  • Phoenix

Some of these, like the Hippogriff and Phoenix, will be unlocked from quests. So if you don’t see them immediately, don’t worry.

How many breeding pens can you have?

There are no limits on breeding pens. However, the space in your vivarium will limit you to only about four. Thankfully, you get more vivariums for putting more species of beasts in your pens by completing quests.

By completing Plight of the House Elf, Foal of the Dead, and Phoenix Rising, you will unlock a total of four vivariums allowing you to hold 16 species and 48 total beasts. Also, roughly 16 breeding pens.

This will provide quite a lucrative opportunity to get loads of gold. Become a regular ol’ wizard rancher.
