 -

To catch a walleye in Stardew Valley you should use Magic Bait, which will allow walleye to be caught regardless of the season. If you don’t have access to Magic Bait, your best bet is to go to the rivers of Pelican Town and Cindersnap Forest to catch a walleye.

The first thing you have to do to catch a walleye is to have the perfect tool for fishing. Fishing poles can be bought from Willy’s fish shop. You can start with the training rod with the cheapest amount of only 25 gold. However, this can only catch common fish. Now, if you want a more upgraded fishing rod such as a bamboo pole, fiberglass rod, or iridium rod, you can buy all of these from Willy’s fish shop as well.

Aside from the actual tools that you will be using, you must also know the basics of fishing in Stardew Valley. Here’s a brief instruction on how to catch fish:

  1. Equip your fishing rod once you stand near the river or any body of water you want to explore.
  2. Throw the line by clicking and holding the left mouse button and let the bar fill from red to green.
  3. Click the exclamation mark as it appears on your screen. It is an indication that a fish gets on your bait.
  4. Simply wait until the next bar dill up to the fish icon.

However, knowing these details won’t guarantee that you can get the fish you are eyeing. It is important to know the type of fish and its requirement to get caught. In terms of the walleye, it follows a strict schedule and weather and also appears in some specific areas most commonly.

Locations to Catch Walleye

Walleye in Stardew Valley locations

As previously stated, catching walleye is not that hard compared to other types of fish in Stardew Valley. You can get lucky and catch some in rivers, lakes, and forest ponds. However, if you want to get a high chance of catching walleye, you should go to these specific map locations.

Pelican Town River

The Pelican Town is where the player spawns and moves at the start of the game. This is where most villagers live, work, and socialize. It can actually be considered the main town in Stardew Valley.

By looking at the map of Pelican Town, you can see a long river passing through the next town. Fishing here gives you a high probability of catching walleye fish.

Cindersap Forest Pond

The Cindersap Forest can be found in the southwest part of Stardew Valley. From Pelican Town, you can arrive at the Cindersap Forest by going west.

Looking at the map, you can see a large body of water at the center of the forest. This is also one of the best spots to catch walleye fish.

Mountain Lake

Mountain Lake

As you explore the northern part of Stardew Valley, you can arrive at the mountain. As you walk there through the bridge, you will see the big lake in the middle. You can also try catching walleye here to get a high possibility of fishing some.

However, knowing the perfect location is not enough for you to have it all. Going to these places any time of the day still won’t guarantee you having a good catch. The walleye fish commonly appear in these areas once nighttime comes. The specific time for fishing walleye ranges from 12:00 PM to 2:00 AM. So, to make sure that you can maximize your time catching walleye at these times, make sure that you have enough energy to sustain your activity. Remember also not to push your character to its limit or you will get exhausted and will pass out.

Perfect Seasons for Walleye

Perfect Seasons for Walleye

There are more conditions that you have to consider in catching walleye in Stardew Valley. The fall and winter seasons are the best time to go fishing for walleye. However, walleye will only appear during these seasons if it is raining. You can say that catching walleye is all about timing, however, there is still another way to make it rain during these seasons.

Crafting a rain totem can help you easily condition the weather for the next day. It will require first to reach level 9 of your foraging skills. The ingredients needed to craft this are 5 pine tara, 1 hardwood, and 1 truffle oil.

Uses of Walleye (Reproduce and Sell, Recipe, Gift)

Now, if you are wondering why walleye are so meticulously caught, here are a few reasons why.

Farming Them

After catching a few of them, you can opt to build a pond on your farm. First, go to Robin’s Carpenter’s Shop and buy a fish pond for 5,000 gold. Building this will take two Stardew Valley days.

Initially, you can only place three fish in the pond. But after completing all the fishing quests, it can reach up to a maximum of ten fish.

What’s good about having walleye in your pond is that they can reproduce and produce roe. Aside from that, you can also make money by selling some of them.

Recipe

Although there are no items in Stardew Valley that specifically require the use of walleye, these are some of the things you can craft using walleye: Maki Roll, Sashimi, and Quality Fertilizer.

Gifting

The aforementioned crafted items are one of the most valuable gifts to some villagers. If you want to increase your relationship with Linus, you can give him sashimi as it is one of his favorite foods.

On the other hand, both the Maki Roll and Quality Fertilizers can be a gift for yourself. The Maki Roll can restore 100 energy and 45 health, while the quality fertilizer increases your chance of growing healthy crops.
