Hogwarts Legacy has a massive open world for you to explore and will often have you running from place to place to complete various quests. To quickly get to where you need to go, getting a broom should be one of the first things on your priority list! In this article, we will cover when and where you can get your first broom in Hogwarts Legacy and what the requirements are.
How to Get A Broom in Hogwarts Legacy?
For starters, to get a broom in Hogwarts Legacy, you will need to complete the flying class in the main storyline. Here you will meet several interesting characters, including the flight teacher.
You will be shown the basics of how to fly on a broom and the various controls for flying. Afterward, you will chat with a student about wanting to own your own broomstick, hinting at the fact there is a shop in Hogsmeade that sells them. Naturally, you’ll head to Hogsmeade next.
Once you are at Hogsmeade, travel to Spintwitches Sporting store. There will be a quest here that might block the shop’s logo. This is a side quest called “Flight Test” you will need to complete in order to get a broom of your own.
To purchase a broom in Hogwarts Legacy, you will need 600 gold. Don’t be like me and foolishly spend a couple of gold on something you don’t need and not have the money immediately!
You can sell your equipment for lots of gold if you need to. Don’t worry about transmogging it, as you unlock the style by just picking it up. So sell all those hand-me-downs at your discretion! Try never to destroy gear, as it just wastes precious gold galleons.

Anyway, that’s how you get a broom in Hogwarts Legacy. Super simple, and not much to it.
To recap on how to get a broom:
- Complete flying class (main story quest)
- Get 600 gold
- Head to Hogsmeade
- Enter Spintwitches Sporting Needs
- Purchase the broom!
The choice of broom is purely cosmetic. None of the choices has any impact on your flight speed or acceleration. However, if you do want some upgrades, you will be able to complete a couple of side quests to unlock broom upgrades.
Broom Upgrades
These upgrades will enchant your broom to increase its speed and acceleration for even quicker travel times across Hogwarts! Keep in mind these are rather expensive. So don’t think just completing the challenge will give it to you for free. You’ll need to spend 1000 gold each time, and you have a total of three upgrades available. That’s over 3000 gold to fork over for your broom!
While the price is worth it, you likely won’t have that much gold this early in the game. Go exploring or try some side quests, and you’ll be the richest little wizard/witch in no time!
If you’re curious as to how to fly or how to equip your broomstick, you just have to access the gear menu and click the corresponding button, depending on the system you are playing on.
For PC, this would be holding tab and pressing 3. For consoles, this is going to be LB/L1 and then either the B button or the Circle button on PlayStation.
There are certain areas you are not allowed to fly in. Hogsmeade, for example. So keep in mind you won’t always be able to use your broom!
Have fun, fellow wizards and witches!
