ARK Survival Evolved is not just about taming dinos; there are many other things to do, such as building a base and crafting items. During the crafting process, you will need different items.
Some are basic, and others are advanced. One of them is Fiber. So, what are the ways to get Fiber? Well, there are several methods to get Fiber.
Mainly, this can be gathered by harvesting plants with the help of a tool or dino. But, Fiber in ARK can also be found in the Supply Crates. Each of the tools and dinos has a different efficiency of gathering Fiber.
Moreover, some dinos can reduce the weight of Fiber. This helps in moving more Fiber in a single turn.
Once you get your hands on Fiber, it can be used for crafting. Primarily, it will be used in the basic items. But it has a few other great uses as well.

How to Get Fiber in ARK
Fiber can be collected from plants with just the bare hands. But this would take a lot of time. Using tools can be a more efficient and faster way of collecting more Fiber in less time.
You can craft tools and use them to gather Fiber.
The Metal Sickle can be crafted in ARK that is mainly used to gather Fiber from plants. This is the only tool with the highest efficiency in collecting Fiber.
Metal Sickle gets unlocked at level 30. Once it is unlocked, it can be crafted at Smithy with the following ingredients.
- 18x Metal Ingot
- 4x Wood
- 16x Hide
This all goes in the Smithy and gives you 1x Metal Sickle.
The next tool that you can use for collecting Fiber is Excavation Rig. It can only be found in the Genesis Part II map. Excavation Rig is a body part of TEK Stryder. It’s a creature on the Genesis Part II map. This rig can be used to gather Fiber and other high-value resources in the game.
But, the Excavation Rig doesn’t have great efficiency as the Metal Sickle and can only be used on a single map, Genesis Part II.
Also, using Tek for fiber is a bit overkill.
Using Dinos to Gather Fiber
Just like using a tool, dinos can also be used for the same purpose. It is relatively easier than using a tool. You just need to hop on your dino and go through the areas where you see plants. Hitting bushes will give you lots of fiber depending on the dino used.
There is not just one creature that can be used for gathering Fiber. But, we have a long list of dinos for this job. Some have high efficiency, whereas others are not that much efficient. You should go for the efficient ones as they can save a lot of time.
Here are the dinos that can be tamed and used for gathering Fiber in ARK.
- Dire Bear
- Gigantopithecus
- Therizinosaur
- Maewing
- Megatherium
- Mantis
- Moschops
With these creatures, you can also take other dinos that reduce the weight of Fiber. The weight can be reduced by 50%, so they can carry 2x Fiber. Here are the three dinos that can reduce weight.
- Castoroides
- Ravager
- Thorny Dragon
You can make a team of two dinos, one for gathering and one for storing Fiber. This way, you can gather and carry more Fiber to your base in less time.
Best Dino for Collecting Fiber
We have listed above various dinos for Fiber gathering. But, the list has a few that are best for this job as they have the highest efficiency. Let’s have a look at the best ones.
Dire Bear
Dire Bear is excellent for gathering Fiber as it has higher efficiency. It looks similar to a regular wild bear. And it can be found on almost all maps. Dire Bear can also collect some other items such as Berries, Hide, and Chitin.
Gigantopithecus
Gigantopithecus is another perfect dino for Fiber gathering. It’s a giant Yeti that can be found in the forest area. Gigantopithecus has the same efficiency as the Dire Bear. It can also collect other items, including Rare flowers, Berries, and Thatch.
The great thing about the Gigantopithecus is that it will automatically gather fiber for you if set to wander. This can be quite handy for the lazier players but can also be dangerous in PvP servers where anyone can kill your fiber-collecting monkey friend easily.
Therizinosaur
Another best Fiber gatherer is Therizinosaur. So, Its efficiency matches the efficiency of Gigantopithecus and Dire Bear. This one is also available on all of the maps, and it spawns more commonly.
Besides helping in Fiber gathering, it can collect items such as Obsidian, Silica Pearls, Gems, Flint, and Element Ore.
These three dinos are the best ones for gathering Fiber. Taming one of these creatures and one that can reduce the weight of Fiber will be a perfect combo.
Bonus Dino: Mantis
One of the secret best fiber gatherers is mantises. They are not good at fiber gathering, but you can equip them with sickles, giving them maximum efficiency for gathering.
The only problem is a mantis is quite a pain to tame and can’t be tamed on most maps like the Island. Therefore, it isn’t the best choice, but it is still a choice.
