How to Get Hardwood in Stardew

Wood has always been an important resource in Stardew Valley, especially the hardwood. Hardwood is the main ingredient of most buildings, tools, machines, and other craft recipes. Compared to normal wood, hardwood is comparably stronger and has a higher level of beauty. Hardwood is commonly used for rarer crafting recipes and upgrades.

Hardwood can be found and harvested from various trees and stumps found on the Forest Farm map and in Dangerous Mines with levels 41 to 69. For instance, you can find six large stumps in the Secret Woods that respawn daily. Another eight stumps are located on the left side of the farm, which respawns daily as well.

So, let’s look at how you can harvest hardwood and upgrade your buildings and items!

How to Get Hardwood in Stardew?

The most common way to get hardwood in Stardew is by chopping off Mahogany trees, large stumps, large logs, and by visiting the mines. In fact, each of these sources requires a different type of axe to harvest and obtain the hardwood.

Mahogany Tree

By using any axe available, you can chop off these mahogany trees to collect hardwoods. In fact, taking down one mahogany tree gives eight to 13 pieces of hardwood resources. Some people prefer this way of obtaining hardwood. Having said that, you can maximize the supply of your resources by planting a Mahogany seed on your farm. You can also use a Tree Fertilizer to accelerate its growth by 60% overnight.

Mahogany seeds can be collected by shaking or chopping a Mahogany tree or any hardwood sources. These can also be obtained from the Golden Coconuts from Ginger Island and the Slimes in the Secret Woods.

Large Stumps

Large stumps can be found abundant in three locations – on your farm, from The Secret Woods, and from The Mines which can be explored when the Shrine of Challenge has been activated.

A single large stump yields two hardwood resources and 25 Foraging Experience points. The difference between a Mahogany tree and a large stump is the axe that can break them. However, you cannot split a large stump with just an ordinary axe. It requires a copper axe or a more upgraded axe to collect the hardwood from it.

These large stumps respawn daily on specific sites wherein you can grind daily. Six stumps respawn daily in Secret Woods giving you a total of 12 hardwoods. While there are eight stumps located in the west zone of the Forest Farm. Lastly, one large stump is in the upper-left area of the Four Corners Farm.

Large Logs

Even at the beginning of the game, you have already encountered large logs on your farm and could not split them using an ordinary axe or even a copper axe. In order to split a large log, you must first craft a steel axe or a more upgraded one.

For every log chopped, you can acquire eight pieces of hardwood resources. Compared to both the Mahogany tree and large stumps, logs do not respawn once chopped regardless of the farm map you are located in.

Most of the large logs can be located in front of the entrance of an unexplored area. For example, at the entrance of the Secret Woods.
