Next, you must proceed through the roots of the Erdtree and defeat Godfrey, First Elden Lord, along the way. Finally, you will face Morgott in the Throne room
Once you defeat Morgott, you will acquire the Rold Medallion. However, it will only be possible after completing both phases of the boss fight. Beware, Morgott is one of the toughest bosses in the game. So, make sure you go prepared with Margit’s Shackle and a bleeding weapon.
Finally, you must head back down from the Erdtree till you reach the Royal Capital.
- Reach the Rold Route:
After defeating Morgott, you have all you need to access the Grand Lift of Rold. However, first, you must make your way through hordes of enemies to find the elevator room.
For this purpose, you must either head back to the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace or use the fast travel option.
You can still find the Rold Route on the world map after acquiring the Rold Medallion, as shown in the picture. However, the exact path that you must take isn’t obvious on the map.
So, start at the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace and go upstairs to reach the main streets of the Royal Capital. Here, you must defeat the Erdtree Avatar patrolling the area.
Next, proceed along the main path on your left till you reach another set of stairs, as shown in the picture.
At this point, you must defeat several demi-human enemies to proceed forward. The best way to deal with these weaklings is to use the Ancient Death Rancor sorcery. Although it costs a lot of FP, it will make defeating these weaker enemies a piece of cake for you.
After dealing with the demi-humans, continue running on the straight path till you reach a large door.
Enter through the door and go upstairs on the spiraling staircase. Here, you will find an elevator on your way. Use the elevator to reach the Forbidden Lands. Exit the elevator and head north on the rocky path. You will find the Grand Lift of Rold or the Rold Route at the end of this path.

- Gargoyle’s Black Axe and Gargoyle’s Black Blades: Both of these Great weapons are dropped from a single enemy. You will find a Black Blade Kindred on your way to the Lift. Defeat him to receive these weapons, as they will come in handy on the Mountaintop of the Giants.
- Night’s Cavalry: This optional boss spawns near the Forbidden Lands Site of Grace only during nighttime. You can defeat him to drop Ash of War: Phantom Slash and 36,000 Runes.
- The Divine Tower: You can only reach the Divine Tower by going through the Forbidden Lands. You can use this tower to fortify Mohg’s and Morgott’s Great Runes.
