One of the many assignments you have to do before learning a certain spell is Professor Garlick’s first assignment which requires you to acquire Venomous Tentacula & Mandrakes and then use them against enemies.
If you’re like me and you checked the Magic Neep first and got stumped when the seeds weren’t there, don’t worry! The shop you have to buy it from wasn’t shown on your first visit to Hogsmeade, so there is a good chance you’ve never shopped here before.
Where to buy Venomous Tenactula & Mandrakes
The mandrakes and venomous tentacula are located at the Dogweed and Deathcap in the upper right portion of Hogsmeade, away from the town.
Once you know where to look, it isn’t hard to find it.
After you get to the shop, talk to Beatrice Green, who will sell you the seeds of the venomous tentacula and the mandrake for 1050 gold. Alternatively, you can buy the plants ready to go for 600/500 gold galleons each.
If you’re a bit short on coins (like I was), I recommend buying the one-time-use plants for 500 gold and just getting the quest done. But, if you’re a rich little witch or wizard, feel free to start your own mandrake farm. You can check out our gold guide if you’re truly low on funds.
Remember, you must use the mandrake on multiple enemies to complete the quest. Don’t waste it and end up losing 500 gold for nothing. Just head to one of the poacher camps and find a couple of enemies that are close together. Cast leviosa or accio on them first if you’re worried about them dodging.
Growing Venomous Tentacula
You can also grow the Venomous Tentacula in the Room of Requirement. Although, they require large pots to be grown, which can be bought at Tomes and Scrolls for slightly over 1000 gold. It is far cheaper to simply buy the Tentactula by itself early on.
This way, you can complete Professor Garlick’s assignment without having to farm thousands of gold.
As for Mandrakes, you can also grow them in the Room of Requirement, but you don’t need special pots. The basic small pots will work just fine. And, of course, you can use the pot back at Herbology class for growing Mandrakes as well.
Although I do recommend you purchase them outright, buying the seeds later on will come in handy. Some fights in the late game will become much harder, and having combat plants with you will save you from constantly dying.
Good luck! And check out our other Hogwarts Legacy guides while you’re at it!
