Our New World Logging Guide aims to provide a basic understanding of logging in New World. It explains the logging skill to new players as well as the “how to” of logging.

How to start logging
Using tools
In New World, every gathering profession requires the use of tools. Logging is a gathering skill, and the tool required for Logging is the logging axe.
You can obtain tools in New World in three different ways. By crafting the tools at various locations, such as camps, settlements, or purchasing them at trading stations.
Once you have all the tools that you want to use, right-click them in your inventory and select “Active” to keep all of them active at any given time.
A tool’s durability increases when crafted with a perk or as it gets used, and it can also gather a lot of resources with its higher-yielding capabilities.
There are five tiers of gathering tools, the same as other gears in the game.
Tier 1 Flint
Tier 2 Iron
Tier 3 Steel
Tier 4 Starmetal
Tier 5 Orichalcum
Having the best tools will increase the speed of your gathering. To determine the exact gathering speed of your tool, hover over an item to view its detailed information.
The tier of tools helps determine which resources you can gather. Its Roman numeral can quickly identify the tier of an item on the icon of its item.
It is also important to note the gathering speed of the items before purchasing them.
Logging skill increases your level in various ways. Aside from being able to forge weapons and armor, it also allows you to hunt down rare woods.
You can log a tree by pressing the interaction key (default E) when close to it. Always ensure your Logging Axe is in good condition.
You’ll also get bonuses if you reach a certain level of Logging ability. For every 50 points you earn in the stat; you’ll receive this:
Constitution | Logging ability |
50 | +10% logging speed |
100 | -10% reduction on durability loss on tools |
150 | -10% decrease in weight of logged items |
200 | +10% logging speed |
250 | +10% yield when logging |
300 | 25% chance to chop down a tree in a single swing |
How to make logging faster
Crafting a Logging Axe
To make Logging faster, start logging by crafting your logging axe. As I mentioned earlier, you can craft a flint logging axe at any campfire or a town settlement. To craft a logging axe, you need a flint and a greenwood. To find a flint, look for any beige-colored rocks lying around anywhere or along your path. Greenwood can be gathered from any bush that you see around you.
Gain Territory Standing
Another way of making Logging faster is by gaining territory standing. Simply choose “increase gathering speed” when you gain territory standing by ranking up in reputation in a region. You are usually given three upgrade options when you gain territory standing, one of which is- increase gathering speed by 3%. By choosing this, you can begin to stack to increase your gathering speed significantly. Keep in mind this only works in the said region.
With a flint logging axe, you can harvest at 100% speed.100 % may sound impressive, but this speed is relatively slow. It is also possible to make an iron logging axe reasonably quickly if you have already leveled the gathering skill of another gathering tool or have some gold to spend at a trading post. If you craft an iron logging axe, your harvesting speed increases between 125%-139% based on the attributes you obtain.
To make an iron axe: You’ll need to find an engineering bench inside a settlement and use your engineering skill to craft one. For this, you’ll need A pair of any leather plus three timbers or fine woods and 12 ingots of iron.
How to Get Materials
Skinning an animal is a way to obtain leather. Ideally, you will need a flint skinning knife to do this. Once you have killed and skinned an animal, you will take its hide to the tannery in town, where you will turn it into leather. If you choose, you can buy one piece of leather at the Trading Post. It shouldn’t cost you too much.
Similarly, for two pieces of lumber, the greenwood must be taken to town and cut into timber. You can also purchase two timbers from the trading post if you wish to have the job done quickly and do not have the materials yet.
With your mining skills, you can gather iron ore from iron veins and turn it into ingots. This activity will require a mining pick, which you can pick up regardless of your mining skill. You can go out finding these veins, mine the ore, and smelt the iron in town. It is, of course, possible to purchase these materials if you do not have them already from the trading post if they are affordable. If you aren’t explicitly looking for iron veins, finding them can be challenging.
With the necessary materials, a new iron logging axe can be crafted, significantly increasing your logging speed! You can find out where the materials needed can be found further down this guide.
The Logging Axe Tiers
Creating your first iron logging axe allows you to gain efficiency in other areas as well. Logging axes come in 5 tiers and are upgrading from one to another. You will gain speed with each tier, but axes of a higher tier aren’t required to fall higher-level trees.
Below you will find the base gathering speeds. Please note that these are the base speeds. Using additional items/azoth can sometimes make you roll at better speeds.

How to avoid being saddled
While using food buffs, you may also find yourself getting saddled. When you are saddled, you are less likely to run or carry more items, making it harder for you to reach an inn or reach your destination quickly. It can be a setback when trying to travel fast.
With three encumbrance potions, you can defy being saddled for a certain amount of time, which will allow you to farm more and recall all your goodies

Tree Locations
Where to Find Young Trees (Green-Wood) and Mature Trees (Aged Wood)
Green-Wood and Aged Wood are both incredibly easy to farm. They are both incredibly versatile and can be found all around Aeternum.
You can get Green-Wood from bushes or use a logging axe to cut down Young Trees. You can also get Aged Wood from Mature trees that have started to show signs of age.
Where to Find Ironwood Trees
Ironwood is hard to find, so it’s always a good idea to know where to look. This section provides the best farming locations in New World that you can use to obtain Ironwood in particular.
Edengrove is New World’s best ironwood location.
Edengrove is the most densely populated place in New World to farm Ironwood. There are many Ironwood trees along the route.
Ironwood‘s Second best farming location is at Shattered Mountain
East Side of Shattered Mountain is the second-best place to farm Ironwood. There are many spawns in this area, but they are spread a bit more than Edengrove.
There are also wolves roaming this area that you can easily kill quickly. These animals are called Angry Earth wolves; they breed very fast but can be killed and skinned.
The 3rd best place to log Ironwood is at Reekwater. Reekwater may well tie for second place since the Ironwood spawn points are just around the corner from the east fast travel shrine.
The 3rd best place to log Ironwood is at Reekwater. Reekwater may well tie for second place since the Ironwood spawn points are just around the corner from the east fast travel shrine.
Alternate Ironwood Farming Site: Ebonscale.
There are some Ironwood Trees in Ebonscale that are very scarce. If you are in the area looking to farm Ironwood, these are some of the best locations.
Other Regions of Ironwood Farming
Ironwood trees are found outside the four farming regions we listed above. Regions not mentioned in this section have a meager amount of Ironwood Trees, so they are not recommended for farming.
Where to Find WyrdwoodTrees
In New World, the Wyrdwood trees can be challenging to find. They also produce tier 4 wood. There are areas where you can kill the Angry Earth wolves.
Brightwood – Wyrdwood’s most desirable location
Brightwood is a great place to farm Wyrdwood Trees. There are many spawns close together, just beside a fast-travel shrine.
Second Best Wyrdwood Farming Location – Shattered Mountain
There are many Ironwood spawns in this area, as we mentioned earlier. It is found in the Angry Earth Wolves’ habitat. These animals have a lot of time to reproduce, so you can log their corpses when you kill them to obtain Wyrdwood logs
Great Cleave: Another Great Farming Location in the New World for Wyrdwood Trees
There are three main ways to farm Wyrdwood in Great Cleave. The easiest way is to go straight to the top two circled areas on the map. Doing so will allow you to target some dense areas of the region.
Reekwater – Wyrdwood Farming Area
There are several spawn locations near Reekwater Town in Reekwater. These locations are used to find Wyrdwood Trees in the area.
Other Regions – Wyrdwood
Wyrdwood Trees are found in various regions in New World. However, the density of their spawns is far worse than what has been highlighted above.
