The method we use for taming a Pteranodon in Ark is based on a few steps. This creature is way quick and attentive. It flies away as soon as it gets the first hit unless the hit is strong enough to knock it down in a single attack. 

Knocking Out Pteranodon

It is important to knock out Pteranodon in Ark without missing your first hit. We can entirely stop its mobility so that it won’t flee. To do that you can use a Bola which is a beginner weapon. You can craft one of these using Thatch, Stone, Fiber, and Hide. 

Now spot one of the Pteranodon and wait for it to come on ground level. Once it does, simply go a bit closer and throw Bola at it. This will make the Pteranodon immobilized. 

The next thing you wanna do is knock it down with your punches, Slingshot, or any other light damage weapon. It is really important that you keep an eye on its health bar, the stronger weapons can kill it. Also, be careful when using Tranq darts, one of these darts would be enough to knock it down. 

Pteranodon Taming Food

We have a variety of foods that can be used to tame a Pteranodon. But the most effective one is Regular Kibble. Here is the recipe that can be used to craft Regular Kibble.  

You will need the following ingredients: 

• 1x Cooked Meat Jerky
• 1x Medium Egg
• 5x Fiber
• 2x Longrass
• 2x Savoroot
• 1x Waterskin 

This will give you 1x Regular Kibble. You can use some other foods as well but they will take more time as compared to Regular Kibble. Somehow if you are unable to craft the Regular Kibble then these foods can be used. 

• Raw Mutton 
• Cooked Lamb Chop 
• Raw Prime Meat
• Cooked Prime Meat
• Raw Prime Fish Meat 
• Raw Meat
• Cooked Prime Fish Meat

Feed your knocked-down Pteranodon in Ark until its taming bar is full. Once it is tamed, you can ride it to travel around the map quickly.

Where to Find Pteranodon?

Now you must be thinking about the spots to find one of these creatures. Pteranodon is most commonly found near beaches all over the map. However, the beaches located at the Center of the map are surely the best spots to capture one of them. 

Pteranodon is quite easy to find as compared to other creatures out there. Because these can be found easily and spawn more often. 

Pteranodon General Stats

Pteranodon in Ark is a low-level creature that can be used as a ride. Mostly, players at the early levels prefer Pteranodon as their first flyer. It has overall low stats but the flying speed is similar to other creatures out there. 

Let’s take a look at its base stats.

• Stamina: 150
• Oxygen: 150 
• Food: 1200
• Weight: 120
• Movement Speed: 100%
• Torpidity: 120

These are the basic stats for Pteranodon. Once your creature hits higher levels, these base stats will eventually increase. The higher levels you reach the more these stats will increase, making your creature more powerful.

You must need to search the places around the map as you are new to the game. And without a flyer, it won’t be easy. This is important here because new players are required to build a base. The Ark map is so huge that it will be impossible for you to traverse it without a flyer or fast-moving creature. 

A Pteranodon can be a good choice for both beginners and advanced players in Ark. Can be found easily at various spots on the map and is easy to tame. Additionally, it comes in the fastest of fastest flyers in Ark. 

What is the Fastest Way to Tame a Pteranodon?

Knocking down a Pteranodon doesn’t take much time. The taming speed depends on the food you are using. Each of the food that we listed above has a different taming speed. For an instance, Cooked Fish Meat has the lowest taming speed. Whereas the Regular Kibble has the highest taming speed. 

Also, the taming speed varies with the level of Pteranodon you are catching. The lower-level ones can be tamed much quicker than the ones having higher levels. 

What to Give a Pteranodon to Tame? 

There are a dozen of different taming foods that can be used for Pteranodon. We have discussed these foods above. The Regular Kibble has the highest taming speed and effectiveness. The others have significantly lower taming speed. 

Choose the taming food as per convenience, whichever you may find easily. However, I would suggest you go for the Regular Kibble.
