With Survivors of the Void DLC for Risk of Rain 2 comes two brand new survivors. One of which is the Void Fiend. Today we’re going to be showing you our Void Fiend guide including things like what his abilities do, what items are best, and some tips and tricks on how to play the Void Fiend. It is early in the DLC, so more information might come out on how to play the Void Fiend. When that happens I will certainly be updating this guide. There is also a Railgunner guide if you want to see what she does.

Void Fiend’s Abilities
Passive: Void Corruption
The Void Fiend’s passive is a whole new concept called “Corruption”. When playing the Void Fiend you have a bar that will slowly fill up over time and when you take damage. Once filled, you will turn into a corrupted version of the Void Fiend and have empowered abilities for a limited time.
Healing quickens the pace at which you transform back into your base kit and you have the option to crush some of your HP in exchange for some more time in the empowered form. A high-risk high-reward playstyle.
Primary: Drown
Drown is the Void Fiend’s primary ability and has a respectable 300% damage. Although, it does fire quite slowly even with some attack speed.
Now, the real power comes from the empowered version of Drown. When using this form, it becomes a rapid-fire beam that increases its DPS incredibly, allowing you to shred through entire groups of enemies with ease. A far more potent version of the base ability.
Secondary: Flood
Flood is the Void Fiend’s secondary ability. You have the option of firing a plasma missile for 600% damage or charging it up and shooting a plasma ball which deals 1100% damage, nearly double. Truly, quite powerful for a base kit ability as it can proc either one of the bands without even needing to be charged.
In your corrupted form you no longer have to charge the attack for the full 1100% damage and the AOE of the explosion doubles. This makes it much better at taking out groups of enemies quickly.
I think I’m starting to notice a pattern.
Utility: Trespass
Trespass is the Void Fiend’s utility skill. The base version of this ability causes you to disappear (like strides of heresy) and cleanses all debuffs from you while you move upward in an arc. Essentially, this is a mobility skill that also functions as a panic button when you’re getting burned to death by a lemurian.
In your corrupted version, it doesn’t improve much. You simply move in a straight line instead of upwards.
Special: Suppress
Suppress is the Void Fiend’s special. For his base form, Suppress heals the Void Fiend for 25% max health. Sadly, at the cost of corruption.
As for his corrupted form, you do the opposite.
Best Items for Void Fiend
This section is going to be for what I think are the best items for the Void Fiend. When playing Risk of Rain 2, half the battle is items, so consider this my Void Fiend item guide.
Here are some good items to have on Void Fiend:
- Both Bands: Void Fiend has an easy way to proc them and that ability does 1000% damage which is amazing with these two items
- Razorwire: Taking damage pumps up your corruption, also using suppress procs razorwire so win win.
- Repulsion Armor: This is debatable. While you do want to be taking damage, you also don’t want to be constantly at the edge of dying. Repulsion armor helps with that
- Backup Mags: Strong secondary = Backup Mag galore
- Planula: Made for this survivor
- Hellfire Tincture: Combo this with Razor Wire for a broken corrupted Void Fiend build
You will want to avoid shield items on the Void Fiend. You won’t ever be able to regenerate your shields if you go aggressive, which should literally be all the time, so they are kind of wasted on you.
Also, we don’t know the exact proc coefficient for the Void Fiend’s abilities yet so I can’t say whether or not proc items would be good on him. The upgrade Drown looks like it would be, but I can’t confirm yet.
Avoid Brittle Crown at all costs.
Void Fiend Tips and Tricks
Here are some tips and tricks for Void Fiend:
- Manage your health with your corruption bar. Sometimes it isn’t worth it to stay in corrupted form.
- Your trespass is short range. Don’t trust it to get you out of everything.
- That being said, you have a brief i-frame during trespass. Skilled players can abuse this to dodge deadly attacks like jellyfish explosion
