This article covers the locations and solutions of all Trials in this section of the game.
Merlin Trials in South Hogwarts:
There are 15 Merlin Trials in the South Hogwarts region. Moreover, you must complete the first challenge in the area before you can undertake any Merlin Trial in the game. So, this region will probably be your first stop in your adventures. Here is the best way to solve all Merlin Trials in South Hogwarts:
Puzzle 1: Trials of Merlin
The first Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts region is part of the Trials of Merlin quest. It is a unique challenge in which you must find and ignite all three torches near the Merlin stone. However, the torches require more power than Confringo to ignite them, so your only option is to use the Incendio spell. You can find this challenge near the end of The Girl from Uagadou quest. As soon as you hear Nora Treadwill calling for help in distress, visit the location as shown in the picture:
The goal of this Merlin Trial is simple, find and ignite all three torches in the area. Initiate the puzzle by using Mallowsweet Leaves on the Merlin stone. Next, cast the Revelio spell to reveal the location of all three torches. Finally, use Incendio while aiming at the torches to light them up one by one. The puzzle will complete with a monument appearing on the Merlin stone at the end of the quest.
Puzzle 2: Small Stone Balls
The next Merlin Trial is in the Lower Hogsfield section of the South Hogwarts region. The goal of this challenge is to find three sockets in the ground and guide the small stone balls into the holes. You can complete this challenge with either Wingardium Leviosa or Accio spell. However, for best results, you should cast Accio while standing on the sockets. You can find this Merlin Trial by heading west from the Lower Hogsfield area, as shown in the picture:
Initiate the puzzle with Mallowsweet Leaves and cast Revelio spell to locate all three ball sockets. The first socket is in the west of the Merlin stone, and the balls are directly in front of it. Stand on the sockets and use Accio while aiming at the balls to attract them toward the holes. The next cluster of stone balls is slightly to the east of the Merlin stone. Finally, the last socket is in the south direction from the Merlin stone, and the cluster of balls is in the grassy field. Repeat the spell on all stone balls to complete this Merlin Trial.
Puzzle 3: Giant Stone Ball
The third Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts region requires a combination of Accio and Wingardium Leviosa spells. The goal of this puzzle is to locate the Giant stone ball and guide it to the hole in the ground. You can find this Merlin Trial by traveling north from the Lower Hogsfield as shown in the picture:
Start the Merlin Trial by using the Mallowsweet Leaves on the stone. Next, locate the large hole in the ground by casting the Revelio spell while standing on the edge of the cliff (to your left). Return to the giant stone ball and cast the Wingardium Leviosa spell while aiming at the ball to elevate it in the air. Finally, move down the hill and cast Accio to attract the ball and guide it to the large hole in the ground. Alternatively, you can also use the Depulso spell to push the ball down the cliff and guide it to the hole. The challenge will complete as soon as the ball is placed in the hole.
Puzzle 4: Destroy Stone Pillars
The next Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts region is quite an easy one. To complete this puzzle, you must find and destroy 5 large stone pillars using the Confringo spell. The good news is that all of the pillars are around the Merlin stone, so you can even destroy them without moving at all (that’s how easy it is). To find this Merlin Trial, you must travel east from the small tree plantation as shown in the picture:
Once you reach the Merlin Trial, use the Mallowsweet Leaves on the stone to initiate the challenge. Next, use Revelio spell to discover the locations of all 5 pillars around the stone. Finally, use the Confringo spell at the highlighted stone pillars to destroy them. The challenge will complete after you have destroyed all of the stone pillars.
Puzzle 5: Moonlight Challenge
The next Merlin Trial isn’t that much of a challenge if you are good at navigating around the area. The goal of this puzzle is to find the Moonlight stone pillars, locate the clusters of Lacewing Flies, and lead the flies to the pillars. However, the pillars and the flies are often hidden in plain sight. So, you must carefully look around the area to find all three pillars and clusters. To reach this Merlin Trial, you must travel to the foot of the hill in South Hogwarts, as shown in the picture:
Initiate the puzzle by using the Mallowsweet Leaves at the Merlin stone. Next, head southwest toward the cliff to find the first cluster of Lacewing Flies. Reach the flies and cast Lumos to catch them. Next, head to the top of the cliff (don’t worry if you lose the flies when you jump). Once you reach the top of the cliff, stand on the edge and use Lumos to catch the flies again. Finally, go near the Moonlight stone pillar on the cliff to activate it. From here, you can easily spot the next cluster of flies as well as the Moonlight stone. To catch these flies, you must go to the center of the bridge and cast the Lumos spell. The final cluster of the Lacewing flies is located across the bridge, on the other side of the river, and the Moonlight pillar is at the bottom of the nearby cliff.
Puzzle 6: Giant Stone Ball
This Merlin Trial is pretty similar to the one you already completed before. However, instead of pulling the giant stone ball toward the hole, you must push it down the hill. Apart from this, the general goal of the challenge is the same, i.e., guide the ball to the large hole in the ground. You can reach this Merlin Trial by traveling north from the river, as shown in the picture:
Once you activate the Merlin stone with Mallowsweet Leaves, look up while facing north to find the giant stone ball. However, this ball is on top of a cliff, and the best way to reach it is on your Broom. The large hole in the ground is located right behind the ball, down the hill. So, move behind the stone ball and use the Depulso spell to guide it to the hole. Alternatively, you can also elevate the ball with Wingardium Leviosa and guide it toward the hole using the Accio spell.
Puzzle 7: Destroy Small Stones
This Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts region is a treat for the destruction lovers. The goal of this challenge is to find and destroy eight small stone balls placed on top of pillars. However, finding such small stones can be slightly challenging for first-timers. You can reach this Merlin Trial by moving east from the Great Lake, as shown in the picture:
Initiate the puzzle with Mallowsweet Leaves, and turn left to find three stones on the cliff. Once you locate the stones, you can destroy them either with Confringo or Incendio spells. The next set of three stone balls is found in the north direction from the Merlin stone. One small stone ball is placed at the western end of the area. Finally, the last stone ball is hidden behind the cliff; move to the edge to spot it. To make things easier, you can use the Revelio spell whenever you can’t locate the stone balls. The challenge will complete after you destroy all 8 stone balls in the area.
Puzzle 8: Platforms Challenge
The eighth Merlin Trial in this region is a piece of cake for Assassin’s Creed fans. The goal of this challenge is to complete the parkour course, jumping from one platform to the next without touching the ground. You can find this Merlin Trial on the eastern shore of the Great Lake in South Hogwarts, as shown in the picture:
Initiate the challenge by using the Mallowsweet Leaves on the stone. Next, move westward to reach the first stone platform. Climb on the platform to start the course and keep jumping till you reach the fourth stone platform to complete the challenge. The best strategy is to keep running while jumping between the platforms to maintain your momentum. For most players, this challenge won’t take more than a single attempt. However, if you fall at any point, you can always restart the parkour course from the first platform.
Puzzle 9: Moonlight Challenge
The next Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts is pretty much the same as the previous one. As a matter of fact, it is even easier for some players. All you need to do is to find three clusters of Lacewing Flies and bring them to the Moonlight pillars to complete the challenge. You can find this Merlin Trial on the eastern shore of the Great Lake (a little south of the platforms), as shown in the picture:
Start the Merlin Trial and use the Revelio spell to reveal all three Moonlight pillars in the area. The first pillar is directly in front of the Merlin stone, and the cluster of Lacewing Flies is beside it. Go near the flies and cast Lumos to catch them, and move near the Moonlight pillar to activate it. The second cluster of Lacewing Flies is in the east of the Merlin stone; you can better locate it during nighttime. Finally, the last cluster of flies is in the south of the Merlin stone, you can find it by moving close to the cliff, and the final Moonlight pillar is directly in front of the cave.
Puzzle 10: Lighting the Braziers
The next Merlin Trial is slightly different from The Trial of Merlin quest. To complete this challenge, you must ignite the three braziers near the Merlin stone and keep them lit simultaneously. The only problem is that the brazier will start to descend into the pond as soon as you ignite it. So, you will only have limited time to find and ignite the remaining two. You can find this Merlin Trial near Leopold Babcocke, as shown in the picture:
Initiate the Merlin Trial and quickly cast Revelio to reveal all three braziers in the area. The first two torches are on the left side, across the river. The final torch is in the northwest of the Merlin stone. You must start by lighting the tallest one and then move to the other two, depending on their size; once you locate all three torches, use the Confringo spell to ignite them one by one. The best way to complete this challenge is to start with the middle one, then the one next to it, and finally, the one in the distance.
Puzzle 11: Moonlight Challenge
This Merlin Trial is in the Aranshire section of the South Hogwarts region. The basic goal is still the same, i.e., find the Lacewing Flies and bring them to the Moonlight pillars. However, the Moonlight pillars, in this case, are hidden behind a cliff, making them slightly difficult to spot. You can find this Merlin Trial in the southwest of the Aranshire as shown in the picture:
Start the challenge by using Mallowsweet Leaves, and turn left to find the first cluster of Lacewing Flies. However, before you catch them with Lumos, use Revelio to locate the Moonlight pillars below the cliff. You will find two enemies downhill; try to defeat them before proceeding with the puzzle. Next, catch the flies and jump down to reach the first Moonlight pillar. The next two Moonlight pillars are further downhill; you can spot them with Revelio. The last two clusters of flies are near the pillars. Beware of the two enemies waiting for you near these pillars. The challenge will be completed after you activate all three Moonlight pillars.
Puzzle 12: Giant Stone Ball
This Merlin Trial is also located near the Aranshire section of the South Hogwarts region. To complete the challenge, you must guide a giant stone ball into a large hole in the ground. You can find this Merlin Trial in the south of the Aranshire, near the lake shore, as shown in the picture:
Initiate the puzzle with Mallowsweet Leaves and use the Revelio spell to reveal the large hole near the Merlin stone. The giant stone ball is placed on top of the cliff in the north. To reach the stone, you must fly on your Broom. Next, use the Depulso spell to push the ball downhill and into the water. Next, use Wingardium Leviosa to elevate the ball, and then pull it to the hole in the puddle using Accio. Alternatively, you can keep pushing with Depulso to guide the ball to the hole.
Puzzle 13: Small Stone Balls
This next Merlin Trial is slightly different from the previous small stone balls challenge. The general goal is still the same, but you must travel downhill to find the sockets and the stone balls. You can find this Merlin Trial right next to the Aranshire, as shown in the picture:
Start the challenge and use Revelio while standing on the edge of the cliff to reveal the first socket as well as the first cluster of stone balls. You can either go down and pull the balls to the socket with Accio, or you can use Wingardium Leviosa to guide them while still standing on the cliff. The next socket is located in the east, near the stone arch by the road. The stone balls for this socket are located southeast of the holes. Finally, the last socket is on the other side of the stone arch, and the balls are in the west. Activate all three sockets to complete this Merlin Trial.
Puzzle 14: Giant Stone Ball
The second last Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts region is a simple one. All you need to do is to guide the giant stone ball to the large hole in the ground to complete the challenge. You can find this Merlin Trial in the southwest of the Aranshire as shown in the picture:
Initiate the challenge by using the Mallowsweet Leaves on the Merlin stone. Next, use the Revelio spell to find the large hole near the stone. After finding the hole, fly on your Broom uphill on the cliff in the south. There you will find a giant stone ball blocked by some rocky structures. Use Confringo to destroy the structure and free the ball. Finally, use the Depulso spell to push the ball downhill and guide it to the hole to complete the challenge.
Puzzle 15: Destroy Stone Pillars
The last Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts region is as easy as it can get. The goal is to find and destroy the 5 stone pillars near the Merlin stone to complete the challenge. You can find this Merlin Trial in the far southwest from the Aranshire, near the riverbank, as shown in the picture:
Initiate the puzzle by using the Mallowsweet Leaves on the Merlin stone. Next, use Revelio to reveal all 5 pillars around the stone. Finally, you can destroy them with either Confringo or Incendio, depending on your distance. In case the blue highlights disappear from the pillars, you can always recast the Revelio spell. The challenge will complete once you destroy all 5 stone pillars in the area.
