Starfield gives you plenty of opportunities to explore the picture from all sides. You don’t always have to stick to the generic Constellation missions to earn XP. Instead, you can join all other factions, complete their quests, and learn a lot about the lore. While these side quests don’t progress the main story, you can earn several valuable rewards by completing them. In this regard, Echoes of the Past is one of the best side quests to understand the Crimson Fleet.
Echoes of the Past is the third mission in the Crimson Fleet questline. While other quests focus on pirate stuff, this quest will take you on a journey to the founding days of the Fleet. However, you must solve complex puzzles, defeat terrifying aliens, and conduct a special investigation to earn your rewards. Therefore, this article provides a complete Echoes of the Past walkthrough while pointing out the possible loot.

Echoes of the Past Background:
Before the Crimson Fleet was formed, all high-profile criminals and pirates were imprisoned in a supermax facility known as The Lock. This facility was located on an extremely cold planet, Suvorov. It used to be an ordinary UC prison until a pirate named Kryx decided to rebel against the authorities and escape the facility.
Most of the rebelling prisoners escaped the facility and gathered on a space station, The Key. This marked the starting point of the Crimson Fleet and its rebellion against the government. While this story has been long forgotten, Delgado, the new pirate leader, thinks that Kryx knew of a massive treasure.
So, he takes you, Mathis, and a few unnamed recruits on an investigation mission. Your job is to follow the team to Suvorov, infiltrate The Lock, and see what you can learn about Kryx’s Legacy (the treasure).
Echoes of the Past Walkthrough:
Echoes of the Past is the third mission in the Crimson Fleet questline. You will unlock this mission after completing the “Rooks Meet King” quest and proving your worth to the leader. This quest is sort of a training exercise for you and the rest of the new recruits.
However, it is a lengthy mission and large hordes of overpowered alien enemies. So, make sure to gather all the essential supplies like Medipacks, get Digipicks, gather ammo, and pick out your best weapons for the job.
Lastly, it would be best to empty your inventory by storing unnecessary items on the ship. Similarly, acquire a bunch of Pick-Me-Up drugs that you picked during the Delivering Devils quest. These steps are optional, but you will need plenty of room in the inventory as The Lock offers a huge stash of loot and other collectibles.
Secure the Surface of Suvorov:
As soon as you speak with Delgado in The Key, he assembles a team and sets out to Suvorov. It is a harsh planet with extremely cold temperatures, so make sure to wear frost-resistant armor to avoid frostbite and other status effects. Once you land on the planet, you will be surrounded by Grylloba (bug-like aliens).
These enemies aren’t so tough but are extremely fast, and some even spit acid. So, take out your assault rifle or the handy shotgun and start shooting until the area is clean of those bugs. Just stay close to the rest of the party and take out the Gryllobas one at a time.
Enter The Lock:
After securing the area around The Lock, go near Delgado and speak with him to open the facility. However, before you proceed to the leader, search the nearby buildings to gain some loot. After Delgado uses his key to unlock The Lock, enter the structure and go straight until you reach a large hall.
It’s worth noting that your companion must wait outside the facility. So, plan your moves without relying on your crew members. As soon as you enter the large hall, a large horde of Gryllobas will ambush you from all directions. The best way to deal with them is to take the higher ground and take them out without getting too close to them.
After defeating all ambushers, Delgado assigns you to Mathis and asks you to open the sealed door from the control room. Even if you don’t like his personality, you are bound to obey the orders and proceed deeper into The Lock.
How to Reach the Control Room in Echoes of the Past?
The next objective is to reach the control room and open the blocked entrance to the security tower. However, this room is located on the second floor with only one way leading to it. Before you head to the stairways, be sure to check out the Depository Room to loot valuable goods from the lockers. Also, check out the security room and the transfer booth for a random helmet, weapon, pack, and some audio logs.
As you proceed through the stairs and into the hallway, a large chunk of ice and debris comes crashing down. This crash blocks the way back, forcing you two to continue the march to the Control Room. At this point, Mathis shares his thoughts about Delgado and his plan to assassinate him and sell Kryx’s Legacy himself. However, you don’t need to answer this. Just make him focus on the objective.
Next, proceed along the hallway and make your way to the second set of stairs. Also, check the Workshop and the Storage room for some extra loot and a bunch of audio logs. When you reach the second floor, you will find a railing overlooking Delgado and other recruits waiting for you. Finally, enter the Control Room and interact with the Terminal to unlock the door for the rest of the team.
Explore D Block:
You will find a transfer booth near the workstation, just right of the intercom. This booth provides the transfer orders of Kryx and his cell in the D Block. So, Delgado asks you two to continue the venture and find Kryx’s cell. Interacting with the booth opens a new door in front of you. So, after looting all the nearby corpses, proceed through the door and into another hallway.
Next, interact with the Prisoner Intake Computer and use it to activate the auxiliary power to D-Block. As soon as you exit this small room, you will see a large guard tower in front of you. So, follow the catwalk to this tower as it leads to the high-profile facility, Block D.
As soon as you enter the cavern just before the guard tower, you will see another small group of Gryllobas. Fortunately, you can easily take them out with a trusty sniper rifle while standing at the vantage point. Alternatively, you can also use a shotgun or a powerful melee weapon to charge through the walkways. Finally, take the second staircase, proceed through section-01, and take the spiral stairs to reach the main guard tower.
How to find Kryx’s Cell in Echoes of the Past?
Block D is a huge structure that is divided into various sections and connected through walkways. While you can find tons of loot and valuable items in various cells, most of them will remain locked until you unlock them from the cell control room. This control room is at the top of the guard tower, so that’s where you will find the next objective.
As soon as you enter the main guard tower, Mathis will again bring up the topic of betraying Delgado. Again, try to avoid this topic and don’t choose sides; instead, focus on your mission. If you go a little off the path and search the cafeteria security guard room, you will find Kryx’s journal entry and the Suspicious Stolen Goods Slate.
Next, access the D-Block Guard Workstation computer and search for Kryx’s cell in the record (if you are having a hard time, try looking in Section 03). Oh, and before you proceed to the main objective, check out Cell D-02-106 in Section 2 (unlock it first) to loot a large weapon stash. Finally, trace back your steps to section 03 and enter cell number D-03-118 to complete this objective.
Acquire Jasper Kryx Legacy:
Now that you have found Kryx’s cell, it is time to look for the information that you came for. This prison cell looks empty, with no valuable items except for a suspicious lamp. After looting the weapon cache, ammo, and credit sticks, interact with the lamp to reveal a new slate.
This slate or audiobook reveals Kryx’s Legacy or the Best Laid Plans. Moreover, it also reveals that the legacy is, in fact, a crashed Galbank starship. Finally, it reveals the location of Carter’s Gig in the shower room locker, which contains the access code to the ventilation chamber. (You can later hand this slate to Lt. Jillian Toft as Crimson Fleet evidence.)
Where is Kryx’s Escape Tunnel in Echoes of the Past?
Your job in The Lock is almost over; you got what you came for. However, you can’t go back the same way because the path is blocked by debris. So, you must find and access Kryx’s Escape Tunnel as your exit point. You can use the Maintenance Access Computer to unlock the ventilation chamber using Carter’s code.
As you exit the ventilation duct, you will find a tunnel that Kryx dug as his escape route. This tunnel leads to a Vanguard armory (you will find some ammo there). As soon as you exit the tunnel, you will pass through the Control Room, Power Plant room, and finally, the Barracks.
After dealing with the small group of Gryllobas in the barrack’s cafeteria, search around to find another audio slate. Finally, proceed to the Warden’s Room and use the intercom to contact Delgado. After the leader unlocks the shuttle bay, Mathis confronts you for the last time, asking you to forget everything and that he will abandon his assassination plans for now.
Escape The Lock:
The last step in this quest is to leave The Lock and return to report your findings in The Key. However, before you proceed to the shuttle bay area, take Warden’s Log Slate (another Crimson Fleet evidence). The only problem is that as soon as you enter the shuttle area, you will be met with a boss fight.
So, take out the remaining Gryllobas and defeat the Grylloba queen. This queen is a powerful creature who can kill you with at most two melee attacks. So, keep your distance and use rapid-fire weapons like a micro-gun to defeat this boss. You can also use the explosives from Warden’s room, but they will also damage Mathis. After defeating the queen, ride the shuttle, exit The Lock, and proceed to The Key.
Speak with Delgado:
Take the ship along with Mathis and Kryx’s audio slate to The Key. Here, speak with Delgado, give him the slate, and plan your next move. Also, you will get the chance to reveal Mathis’s ambitions or keep it a secret for future gains. If you tell his plan, Delgado will kick him out of the Fleet, but it will have a few consequences.
In any case, Delgado will be pleased with your efforts and offer several rewards. Here’s what you get after completing Echoes of the Past:
- 7800 Credits
- 350 EXP
- Keelhauler Pistol
- UC Prison Ship
- Carter’s Gig
- Warden’s Log
Conclusion:
That’s it! You have found the lost legacy of Jasper Kryx. Moreover, you have also learned how the Crimson Fleet was founded and why their headquarters is named The Key. Well, if you didn’t catch that one, the first members escaped from The Lock, so their new life started in The Key. In any case, this article will help you find Kryx’s Legacy and complete the Echoes of the Past quest in no time.
