In Stardew Valley, the players are also allowed to dress up by choosing their clothes and dress however they like. You see, playing Stardew Valley doesn’t just require you to grow your farm by doing the typical farming chores which include planting crops, taking care of farm animals, going out to fish, and redecorating your whole farm according to your own preference.
As you further progress in the game, you will eventually get to even customize your farmer’s appearance by changing his or her shirt, pants, and even your headwear. You can do this by tailoring them using the sewing machine.
That being said, we made this tailoring guide to show you tell you everything that you need to learn and understand about tailoring in Stardew Valley.
How to Unlock Tailoring
You can only tailor different garments in Stardew Valley by gaining access to a sewing machine.
You can access the first sewing machine once you obtain at least one cloth for the first time. After processing wool for four hours, a cloth can be produced from the Loom.
Aside from that, you can also make cloth with a Soggy Newspaper using a Recycling Machine. Mummies in the Skull Cavern also tend to drop cloth when slain.
The day after you get a hold of your first cloth, a cutscene will trigger, which will show Emily in front of your farmhouse and will give you permission to use the sewing machine that you can find in their house. Also, there are some dyeing pots on the side that you can also use.
Where to Find the Sewing Machine
The sewing machine can be found at Emily’s house. Once Emily allows you to use the sewing machine in their house, you can now freely visit their home during open hours and use it according to your liking.
Haley and Emily’s house is located at 2 Willow Lane in Pelican Town. You can come there from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. To get there, you must take the town’s southern road near Jodi’s house.
Upon entering their house, you can instantly see the sewing machine right below the area of the kitchen and directly across the fireplace.
How to Get Your Own Sewing Machine
Going back and forth to Haley and Emily’s house from your farm is a very time-consuming activity, especially if you want to collect different clothes and some more garments. Having said that, it will be a lot more accessible and convenient if you will have your own sewing machine available at home.
To have your own sewing machine at home, you will have to do and complete Emily’s special order called the Rock Rejuvenation. You have to find all the gems Emily wants you to get here. The gems that you have to find are ruby, topaz, emerald, jade, and amethyst. All these nodes can be found by exploring the mines.
After you finish the request, Emily will give you your sewing machine, which you can place and reposition anywhere inside your farmhouse or shed.
How to Use the Sewing Machines
Now that you already have your own sewing machine in your house, it’s now the perfect time to learn how to use it properly.
The first thing you must remember in using the sewing machine is always to have a spare cloth. The best thing to do if you want to have a constant supply of cloth is to take care of a rabbit or a sheep.
Also, you can just increase your friendship level with Emily by at least one heart, and she will occasionally give you wool or cloth through the mail.
Once you have already accessed the sewing machine, you will see an empty slot on the lower left with a cloth icon. This is where you should put your cloth. While on the upper right of the sewing machine is where the spool must be placed. When done, click the power button to switch on the machine and get your clothes done.
As simple as that, you can get a new pair of clothes from your creation.
What Can You Make with the Sewing Machine
As mentioned, your sewing machine will let you create your shirt, pants, headwear, or hats. All in all, there are 293 variations of shirts, 14 pairs of pants, and 30 headwear. All these items need at least one cloth and at least one different recipe to complete the prediction of the garment.
Needless to say that some of the items included here are unique and will require you to work hard to find all the needed ingredients.
