Ultimate Volcano Dungeon Guide in Stardew Valley

Volcano Dungeon in Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley has a good way of letting you explore this world on your own accord and at your own pace. For some, the first thing they want to prioritize is the growth of their farm and relationships with the villagers. However, some players also want to try the side path which is filled with adventures, discoveries, and challenges. Ever heard of Volcano Dungeon?

Places like Volcano Dungeon exists in Stardew Valley to spice up the farming life experience. It is the newest location added to the game from the latest update. It comprises 10 levels with varying and randomized levels of difficulty. That is why as you enter this place, you have to get prepared for all the possible challenges.

Gated Doors in Volcano Dungeon

What makes this location extra challenging is its hostile environment. Each land that you can walk on is surrounded by lava which inhabits sneaky monsters. Plus, this dungeon does not have any stairs like The Mines. Instead, it has doors that you have to search for which will lead you to the next floors.

Despite the dangerous surroundings, Volcano Dungeon houses a plethora of high-quality resources that you can use for your own. As you reach the last floor of the Volcano Dungeon, it will be considered completed.

Having said that, here is the ultimate guide for everything you have to learn if you plan to complete the Volcano Dungeon.

What’s Inside the Volcano Dungeon

As soon as you enter the Volcano Dungeon, a long stream of lava will welcome you right away. If you look around, there is no other way for you to actually step foot on the first floor without crossing the lava – this is where the first problem shows.

Even in this situation, despite being out of your farm, you can still depend on watering cans to live. Players can cross lava streams by carrying a watering can with them. Using this can make a bridge to get to the other side. Not only at the entrance of the dungeon, but you can also use this method every time you have to cross lava to get to a particular area.

However, one thing that you must remember is that the bridge made by your watering can will only last for the whole day. All the bridges you have made will no longer be seen the next day.

Shortcuts from Parrots

Leo's Parrot

As mentioned, Volcano Dungeon s a pretty tricky place as you have to either find or make your way to get to places. Just like at the entrance, you have to make a bridge to cross. But to make things easier, you can just talk to the parrot near the entrance and pay five Golden Walnuts to build a permanent bridge. Doing this will refrain you from continuing to use the watering can upon reentering the dungeon.

Other than that, there is also another parrot found in the Dwarf Shop on the fifth floor. Paying this parrot another five Golden Walnuts will create a hole in the floor. This will serve as a quick exit from the dungeon.

How to Get Golden Walnuts

Golden Walnuts

To the parrots of Ginger Island, this nut is the finest delicacy.

With its golden color, you can quickly think of its value. Collect these walnuts and use them as currency for obtaining passes and access to different area locations.

As you roam around Volcano Dungeon, you can find 19 walnuts in different locations:

  • Five Golden Walnuts from breaking rocks
  • Five Golden Walnuts from defeating enemies
  • Five Golden Walnuts from destroying crates
  • One Golden Walnut by opening a Common Chest
  • One Golden Walnut by opening a Rare Chest

Even though these things are already mentioned to you, the spawn locations are still not guaranteed, so the search is still up to you. That being said, you do not have to worry anymore about spending a total of 10 Golden Walnuts.

Dwarf Shop Stock

Dwarf Shop

In Stardew Valley, it is a rule of thumb to enter the Volcano Dungeon completely ready and packed with all the necessities such as healing items, weapons, and other items you think would be useful when it comes to survival. One more thing you have to be prepared for is running out of your stock.

But the good thing here is that you can find the Dwarf Shop on the fifth floor of Volcano Dungeon. Here, you can buy items that can help you continue your safe adventure inside the dungeon, crafting recipes, and a bow. Yes, a cute, pink bow.

To be more specific, here is a list of all the items that can give you buffs and leverage against the dungeon monsters:

  1. Cinderclown Shoes: +6 Defense, +5 Immunity
  2. Cherry Bomb: creates a small explosion
  3. Bomb: creates a small explosion
  4. Mega Bomb: creates a huge explosion
  5. Warp Totem: Island: a recipe to craft Warp Totem: Island
  6. Ginger Ale: a recipe to make Ginger Ale
  7. Roots Platter: +125 energy, +56 health, +3 attack buff (5 minutes)
  8. Super Meal: +72 health, +4 max energy, +1 speed buff (3.5 minutes)

Note that the items are listed from the arrangement of highest to least chance of appearing from the Dwarf Shop, with Pink Bow being the lowest chance to appear.

Rare Weapons to Get in the Dungeon

Dragontooth Weapons

Now that you have already learned where you can buy a refill for your combat items, there’s another thing that can be of great help to you when it comes to battle. The only thing you need is to be meticulous in searching all the chests that you can find inside. If you do this, you will be able to find three Dragontooth Weapons namely Shiv, Cutlass, and Club. These weapons cannot be crafted.

Plethora of Items

Along with all the high-quality weapons you can find and buffs that you can buy, there are still a lot of items that you can discover as you wander inside the dangerous dungeon. Both common and rare items are found here if you search diligently.

To give you an idea, here are all the common items inside Volcano Dungeon:

  • Cinder Shard
  • Golden Coconut
  • Taro Tuber
  • Pineapple Seeds
  • Protection Ring
  • Soul Sapper Ring
  • Dwarf Sword
  • Dwarf Hammer
  • Dwarf Dagger

On the other hand, here are the rare items that you have to look for:

  • Cinder Shard
  • Mermaid Boots
  • Dragonscale Boots
  • Golden Coconut
  • Phoenix Ring
  • Hot Java Ring
  • Deluxe Pirate Hat
  • Ostrich Egg
  • Dragontooth Cutlass, Shiv, and Club

Different Enemies

Volcano Dungeon Monsters

You already know the danger of the dungeon is because of its harsh environment. Aside from the lava all around you, numerous monsters will also spawn and will try to attack you on each level of the dungeon.

Even though the monsters here are not as deadly as the ones inside the Skull Cavern, the number of enemies spawning can overwhelm you. Once you get swarmed by them, the next thing you will know is that you already passed out.

Namely, here are all the enemies that you will encounter inside: Dwarvish Sentry, False Magma Cap, Hot Head, Lava Lurk, Magma Sprite, Magma Sparker, Magma Duggy, and Tiger Slime.

Gates and Switches

Gates and Switches

Unlike The Mines where ladders are used to get to the next floors, Volcano Dungeon relies on gated doors. These gates are the only way for you to move further and deeper into the dungeon. However, the only way to unlock these is to find the switches corresponding to them.

As simple as that, you can immediately move on to the next floor. The only thing that will make it difficult for you is the amount of monsters on that particular floor.

Tricky Floors

Going back to talking about how dangerous it is inside the Volcano Dungeon.

You already know that each floor of the dungeon has varying and randomized difficulty levels. That being said, you have to be prepared for whatever you will encounter as you step foot on the next one. In fact, there are these two tricky floors that I shall warn you about – the Mushroom Floors and the Island Floors.

Mushroom Floors

False Magma Cap Floors

Magma cap is a rare type of mushroom that usually grows beside a pool of lava. Knowing its value, you will naturally pick this up when found. However, things are different here inside Volcano Dungeon. One thing you have to remember is to never let down your guard.

Mushroom floors exist because of being infested by False Magma Cap. These are monsters that pretend to be Magma Cap. Once you pick this up, it will find its way to you and attack you immediately.

Island Floors

Island Floors

Unlike mushroom floors, island floors do not have monsters mimicking anything. The problem on these floors is the small patches of land surrounded by lava. The reason why it is an issue is that switches for the gated doors usually spawn in the middle of it.

Besides that, if you ever have a normal watering can, you are at risk of using up all the water just to make bridges on the lava pools.

The Volcano Forge

The Volcano Forge is the very essence of completing the Volcano Dungeon. Once you have already reached the last floor of the dungeon, you will encounter this long alley surrounded by another pool of lava. At the end of the path is the Forge.

This lets the player combine melee weapons to increase their stat, enchant weapons for better combat mode, make Infinity Weapons with Galaxy weapons and Galaxy Souls, and combine rings to blend their buffs.

Cinder shards are a special ingredient needed in forging. So if you want to increase the stats of your weapons and items, make sure to farm cinder shards first.

Tips for Completing Volcano Dungeon

There are several things that you have to consider upon deciding to enter the Volcano Dungeon. Remember that there is no easy way out unless you have paid for the quick exit from the parrot. Needless to say that the new monsters here will also make things harder for you.

That being said, here are some tips for you in completing the Volcano Dungeon.

Carry Healing and Energy Items

Battling a bunch of monsters and using your tools in picking up items from crates will surely use up your energy. Once your energy is down, it is important to replenish it right away before another enemy appears and attacks you.

You should also remember that without the quick exit from the parrot, leaving the dungeon will only require you to go back to the entrance by going through the previous floors once again. Say that you are already in low energy and low health status, this is a very terrible idea as the monsters will keep spawning on each floor and you will just have to fight again.

Upgrade Watering Can

Even though you have a permanent bridge built at the entrance, it is still vital to bring your watering can with you as it is the only way you can cross lava pools.

Watering Can Upgrades

However, low-quality watering cans can only cover a small area upon use. The trick here is to upgrade your watering can to either a gold or iridium quality. A gold watering can covers a 3×3 tile area with a maximum capacity of 85, while an iridium watering can covers a 6×3 area with a maximum capacity of 100 charges.

But if you have ever reached the Volcanic Forge, you can enchant your can with Bottomless. This makes your watering can hold an unlimited water capacity.

Reach the Top ASAP

Upon entering the Volcano Dungeon, your priority must be reaching the top floor first. Having access to the forge puts you in a better position in combat as you can enchant and combine your equipment before you start fighting.

The best thing to do here is to set aside all your curiosity about what the crates have inside and the itch to fight monsters. The most important thing to do first is to find all the switches that will take you to the next floors.

When you have already done the things on your weapons and rings, then it is just the right time to grind every floor and search for the rare items the dungeon has for you.
