One of the most terrifying and tough bosses in the game is Astel in Elden Ring, Naturalborn of the Void. Astel is an enemy that looks out of this world — something even the most ambitious nightmares wouldn’t dare create.
With a skull the size of a building, limbs like towers, and pincers and tusks around its mouth, the boss is a frightening sight to behold. In sharp contrast, Astel also has beautiful, gigantic, butterfly-like wings and a tail that is made of hundreds of large blue pearls with light rings encircling them.
Even the environment feels like being stuck in a different dimension with dark sorceries about, where nothing we consider natural exists. Lore states that Astel came from the stars and is the reason for the ruin of the Eternal Cities during which time he always stole from the sky there.

Where to Find Astel
Players must follow Ranni’s questline fully and obtain the Fingerslayer Blade. Once you get this, the Sending Gate to Ainsel River Main located in Renna’s Rise becomes activated. Unlocking it allows you to travel to the north where the eternal City of Nokstella lies. Here, you will face the Baleful Shadow guarding entry to the Lake of Rot.
You must cross the Lake of Rot carefully, making sure not to remain in contact with the Rot for too long to prevent buildup damage. On the other end of the lake, you have to find the Site of Grace in the Grand Cloister Temple. After arriving here, you must look to the sides of the waterfall for a coffin. You must step inside the coffin — which falls over — and arrive in front of Astel in Elden Ring.
How to Defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void
Defeating Astel isn’t too hard but the first few times will lead to quick deaths. Her attacks are slow and follow the same pattern of attacks. The attacks deal incredible damage, but can be avoided relatively easily. Astel in Elden Ring will begin the fight with a laser that takes time. You can attack her from afar or at close range, but she has attacks for both approaches. Staying back results in a tall attack with a follow up.
Up close, she moves fast and has many moves, one of them being Waves of Darkness. When using this, she jumps up and lands, slamming the ground and sending shockwaves far and wide. Another is the Teleport Grab, where she teleports left of you and tries to eat you.
Memorizing her moves and attacking during openings is the way to beat her. Her attacks cannot be parried and she is immune to Sleep, Frostbite, Death Blight, and Madness. However, Scarlet Rot does great damage.
Frequently Asked Question
This section focuses on questions related to Astel, Naturalborn of the Void
Is Fighting Astel Necessary to Progress the Main Story?
Absolutely not! However, fighting her would progress Ranni’s questline, which is exciting as it leads to new areas, new bosses and more new content to be unlocked with the best part being an entire game ending known as Age of the Stars.
What Is The Benefit of Beating Astel?
Once you beat Astel, you receive the Remembrance of the Naturalborn and 80,000 Runes. If you don’t want to use the Remembrance, it can be sold for 30,000 Runes. Another option is duplicating the Remembrance through a visit to a Walking Mausoleum.
Then both of the Remembrances can be taken to Enia at the Roundtable Hold where you will get two special moves of Astel, one being the Waves of Darkness and the other being Bastard’s Stars.
