What Is a Pufferfish in Stardew Valley

Where to Find Pufferfish Stardew Valley - Pufferfish

Fishing is one of the activities in Stardew Valley makes the game captivating to players. Aside from the thrilling level of difficulty of the task, there is also a vast range of fish and other aquatic animals you can catch in the game, luring players to hand around more time in the town.

Although some of the fish you could get do not come with outstanding roles and do not have much value, they still have their own strengths to show off. After all, they would not be in the game if they don’t have any purpose, don’t they?

One of these not-so-fancy and non-legendary catches is the Pufferfish. Its length could reach up to 37 inches, and as you might have already known, it is such a frantic animal that inflates as soon as it feels surprised and threatened. Pufferfish, alongside the Blobfish, are the only fishing rod fishes that are considered Floaters which on the other hand, refers to those that have a remarkably faster vertical acceleration.

If you wish to meet these non-legendary Pufferfish, it is needless to say that you first need to know which are the perfect spots to catch them.

Where to Find Pufferfish in Stardew Valley?

Opposite to what might be expected, pufferfish, though one of the very few floaters in Stardew Valley, is not so rare and hard to find. There are quite a number of places and ways to have a pufferfish in Stardew Valley in your possession. Just make sure to take note of the ideal time when they appear the most.

Beach

If fishing is what’s being talked about, the ocean, or should one say, the Beach must be the first to come to mind. It is such a good foraging and fishing location, catering to a lot of kinds of fish to catch. Unsurprisingly, the Beach found on the Beach Farm also offers Pufferfish.

To a higher chance of getting a Pufferfish, make sure to visit the Beach on a perfectly sunny, summer day. Particularly between 12 pm and 4 pm. On such days, following the time mentioned, you are certainly bound to catch a Pufferfish especially when backed up with patience and perseverance.

Ginger Island

As an island, it would be, of course, surrounded by a large body of water. With that, it is such a given that Ginger Island would be a location if you are going to look for and catch different fishes.

Ginger Island consists of several more islands. To catch Pufferfish, specifically go to either Island West or Island South. On the Island South, you can both go to Island Southeast and Pirate Cove for more chances of obtaining it. Just take a self-note to go there on sunny days.

Catching a Pufferfish

Pufferfish in Stardew Valley spawns only in the Summer season. Given that knowledge, along with the perfect places to go to when you wish to catch one, the next thing you need to be aware of is how to flawlessly catch a Pufferfish. It would be very beneficial to know some tactics since it has a Difficulty of 80 to catch.

To not miss a chance of reeling in a Pufferfish, it is crucial to know when it is a pufferfish biting on your bait. You will know that it is a Pufferfish when the fish on your bait seems more difficult to get and feels as if the one biting on the bait is moving up and down. This peculiar movement of the fish is a sign that a floater–chances are it is a Pufferfish in Summer–has bitten your bait.

To alleviate the quietly uncontrollable movement of your rod, it would be wise to use a Trap Bobber. It reduces the chance of the Pufferfish escaping while you’re not reeling it in yet. To further escalate the chances of a successful Pufferfish-ing, it is adamantly suggested to use an Iridium Pole and bait.

Other Ways of Obtaining a Pufferfish

To everyone’s delight, here’s some good news! You do not always need to go through hoops and loops just to get a hold of a Pufferfish; they can be obtained not just through fishing.

If you seem to have no luck in catching a Pufferfish from the Beach and even from Ginger Island, you might want to visit the Traveling Cart on Fridays and Sundays to check out if a Pufferfish is in the market. Although it might be a little pricey, ranging from 600 to 1,000 gold, there’s a chance that the Traveling Cart would sell Pufferfish even when it’s out of the season.

Other than the Traveling Cart, you might also want to try your luck with the Garbage Cans. Yes, you read that right! During Summer, Pufferfish have the chance to randomly get show up in trash cans.

Uses of Pufferfish in Stardew Valley

Making Money

One of the primary reasons for catching fish is to sell your great catches for a fair amount of gold. Having said that, Pufferfish in Stardew Valley can also be sold for some exchange of gold. Without any profession, you can sell it for 400 gold, at most. If you have a Fisher Profession, you can sell it for up to 500 gold, and with an Angler Profession, it can sell for up to 600 gold. Relatively speaking, it makes a decent amount of money.

Gifting

Pufferfish cannot be consumed since it could undermine, actually degrade, your energy. But, you can still put it to good use by giving it to villagers who love it. But, strictly speaking, it is only Abigail who loves to receive Pufferfish as a gift. While a few are neutral about it, the number of those who either dislike or hate it outnumbers those who are neutral about it.

Completing Quests

The role of Pufferfish in Stardew Valley also shines when it comes to quests. It plays quite more than a few roles in some quests in the game. One of these is the Aquatic Research Quest wherein Demetrius would request you for a Pufferfish through the mail. The other quests where Pufferfish is needed are the A Help Wanted Quest and the Fishing Quest.

Although it is not a quest, more like a collection to be completed, Pufferfish is also used in the Specialty Fish Bundle under the Fish Tank.

Other Uses of Pufferfish

Consuming the Pufferfish alone is detrimental to your energy but, it could be edible if used as an ingredient in some recipes. In fact, it can be used to make Maki Roll and Sashimi. Also, it could be combined with Sap to create a Quality Fertilizer.

Furthermore, Pufferfish in Stardew Valley could be used in the spool of the Sewing Machine. Also, can be utilized to create a yellow dye.
