Dark Dungeons is among the most dreadful maps in the new BTD6 update. This map was rolled out along with 2 others last year after the custom map design competition. However, even after a while year, only a handful of players have managed to beat it without taking additional help. So, if you are planning to take down the Dark Dungeons, you should prepare your strategy even before starting the first round.
So, what is the best approach to deal with the Bloons of the dungeon? Well, after countless attempts, we have figured out the best Dark Dungeon strategy to complete this Impoppable map in BTD6. This article covers everything from round 1 to round 100, providing helpful tips and tricks to build up the perfect defense.
What is the Dark Dungeons?
Dark Dungeon is an expert-level map in BTD6 which was rolled out along with 2 others back in 2022. What makes this map so difficult is that it has multiple entry and exit points. Moreover, the Bloons rise in levels and toughness as you progress through the rounds. So, you must cover all the entry and exit points with your best towers to make sure not even a single Bloon passes through your towers.
Lastly, you start with only a handful of cash at the start of the round. So, you can only start with 3 to 4 Monkeys in the first round. Afterward, the Dark Monkeys will start earning cash by popping the Bloons so that you can prepare your defense for the succeeding levels.
Now comes the fun part; according to the Reddit community, most players give up before reading round 50. Furthermore, even those who pass this checkpoint usually give up before round 80.
In short, you must really know what you are doing if you want to complete the Dark Dungeons. To quote Punji, a Bloontuber, “If you plan on doing this, I highly recommend not doing this.”
Best Dark Dungeons Strategy in BTD6:
By now, you might have some idea about the difficulty level of this Impoppable map in BTD6. You can check the Monkey setup after every 10 rounds. So, you should try to copy the placement settings by slowly adding and upgrading your Chimps as you progress through the stages.
Without further delay, here is my strategy to complete all 100 rounds of the Dark Dungeons:
Round 1-10:
The first 10 rounds are pretty easy for most players. During these rounds, you will only encounter Red and Blue Bloons with small health bars. So, you can easily handle them with normal Chimps with a few minor upgrades. The key is to start with 3 Monkeys, each covering one entry point, then gradually add more to the exits as you progress through the rounds. Lastly, you should avoid most upgrades for now and only focus on the Quick Shot Upgrade.
Round 11-20:
After the first 10 rounds, the game starts to get a bit harder. Firstly, you will not encounter Green Bloons along with the previous Red and Blue ones. Secondly, you won’t face any major problems until you reach round 14. This is the round where you must add Spikes to the exit points, as the Bloons will now go a lot faster.
As you progress further, you will now encounter your second obstacle, i.e., the Yellow Bloon wave at round 16. So, you should start adding Druid and upgrade both Spikes and Druids to prepare for the coming rounds. Lastly, when you unlock the second Druid at round 18, you should go for the Thorn Swarm Upgrade.
Round 21-30:
The third phase of the Dark Dungeons challenge is fairly easy compared to the first two. However, it will only stay this way if you have been following this strategy at every step. You will get your second Druid around round 20-21 and your third one at round 22 or 23. So, place them in the second and third entry points and change them to Strong.
Also, feel free to use the Spike Trap and Psi whenever you feel like the Bloons are about to pass through. At this point, round 24 is basically free money, as your Druids will take care of everything, including the Pink and White Bloons. The next step is to upgrade to Druids of the Jungle and Hard Thornes before you reach round 28; fast-forward to round 30.
Round 31-40:
When you start round 31 with all of the previous upgrades, you don’t really have to do anything extra. Simply upgrade your Monkeys’ line of sight whenever you get the chance. Also, upgrade the Druids of the Jungle with the Hard Thorns for the upcoming levels. At this point, you won’t have any trouble with the succeeding rounds. However, you should upgrade your Chimps to Crossbows before you reach level 40.
Lastly, now you should deploy your Ace (fighter jet), starting from the left path. So, you should upgrade to the Never Missing Ace upgrade before you reach level 38. Also, upgrade your Alchemist to buff the Ace so that the White Bloons don’t reach the exit, and upgrade your Psi to Strong to avoid dying at round 40. With these settings, you can get to level 40 with just a few close calls.
Level 41-50:
When you reach round 41, you should get the Berserker Brew before starting the round. Otherwise, you will definitely die on this level. At round 42, you should now upgrade the village with the Radar Scanner to detect all Bloons with your Never Missing Ace. Round 42 is probably the hardest one in this series, so feel free to use your Spike Traps and Psi abilities if you get into trouble. Lastly, upgrade your Ace Fighter a couple of times and upgrade your Psi to Strong but avoid all other upgrades to save money for the later rounds. At this point, you can easily get to level 55 without making any major changes.
Level 51-60:
For rounds 50-55, you don’t need to upgrade anything or add new towers to save money for the quadcopter. The next thing is to upgrade to Comanche Defense before you start round 55. Combine it with the Burny Stuff (The Big One) and adjust the Mortar to either the bottom right or left side to catch up with the Camos and boss Bloons.
That’s it; you don’t have to do anything for the rest of the series until you reach round 60. So, sit back and collect as much cash as you can, as you will need it later on.
Level 61-70:
Rounds 61 to 63 are just free money if you time your shots correctly. So, without making any changes, fast-forward to round 63. At this point, adjust your Mortar to cover the middle exit and make sure to micro (set targets) to catch up with the BFDs. However, you should only use this strategy while playing at a slow speed as they travel too fast in the Fast mode.
Also, make sure to upgrade the Mortar a little after completing round 63. For the next part, you should use the second ability of your Psi to defeat the larger Bloons. Apart from these changes, you don’t really need to do anything extra to win this series.
Level 71-80:
If you have survived this far in the Dark Dungeons, congratulations, you are now among the top 50% of players. However, you are far from victory yet, but if you keep up with this strategy, you will get there in no time. To start round 71, just focus on your Alchemist to buff other towers and upgrade the Mortar, as that’s your main weapon for now. You will be good with the previous defense until round 73.
At this stage, you should start targeting the Bloons as much as possible and avoid the fast mode. By the time you reach round 75, you should now upgrade the Psi and keep on targeting the BFDs with your Mortar. The rest of the rounds are pretty easy until you reach level 78. At this point, you might have to use the second ability of your Psi twice to target both of the Ceramic rushers. Finally, at round 79 and 80, you can die as you have too much money. So, you can keep up with the Psi + Mortar Manual Target strategy to prepare for the final showdown. However, you should time your attacks perfectly at the Ceramic rushers to avoid losing too much money.
Level 81-90:
For level 81 and onwards, you really need to focus on your defenses, particularly the Spike Trap. Fortunately, you have saved up enough money to make a few upgrades. So, start with the Perma Spike upgrade and change its directions and range from time to time. Also, you should upgrade the Alchemist to Stronger Acid. When you reach round 83, you should get the Glue Splatter upgrade before starting the round.
After this stage, your towers will take care of the left and right sides. So, you can focus your manual attacks on the bottom middle side, as that’s where the MOABs will be coming out. Next, you should get overclock the Perma Spike so that it focuses on the middle exit by the time you reach level 87. With these towers, you can easily get to level 90 without facing any major issues. Also, it’s okay to die a few times as you have saved up enough cash.
Level 91-100:
Now comes the real deal of the whole Dark Dungeons map challenge. Before starting round 91, you should get 2 Ice Monkeys and place them on either side of the map. Also, you will need to use Psi abilities and Turrets and everything else that you have to avoid dying on round 91, the hardest round so far.
After passing through round 91, you must use all your cash (you will have around 14-15k) to buy abilities, upgrades, add MOAB Glues, etc. Basically, you should get everything that you can to prepare for the final battle. After completing round 93, it’s pretty much the same, so use everything you can get, and you will eventually end up in round 99.
The last 2 rounds are the hardest of them all. So, use all your abilities and time your attacks perfectly to deal with the toughest Bloons in the game. If you are lucky, you will eventually complete all 100 rounds with a couple of bucks to spare (at least I was).
Note: I didn’t mention Statues and water towers, as they have been nerfed in the recent update. So, there is no point in wasting your cash just to deal with a couple of Bloons. Instead, you should focus on your Ace and Quadcopter along with Psi, Ice Monkeys, and all other land towers.
Conclusion:
If you have survived this far, you have probably completed the Dark Dungeons map challenge. It still remains one of the most dreadful maps in BTD6. So, even if you die a couple of hundred times, at least you didn’t quit, so give yourself a tap. Hopefully, this article has provided all the necessary information that you need and the best Dark Dungeons strategy in BTD6 that seems to work every time.
