Unfortunately, you can’t craft or purchase a Moonlantern, and you can only acquire this item from other NPCs.
Furthermore, you find your first lantern near the end of Act 1, but it’s broken. However, you can’t find any Pixies throughout the open world as of the latest update, leaving no way for you to fix it.
How to Get a Working Moonlantern?
Now that you understand the concept behind the Moonlanterns in BG3, the next question is where to find a working one. Fortunately, you don’t have to wander too far away from the progression route. However, the source from where you can get a working Moonlantern mainly depends on your choices during the first Act.
Firstly, if you helped to save the True Leader in the Goblin Camp, you will take the Overland Route to the Moonrise Towers. In this case, you must acquire the Spider Lute from Minthara and take it to the Druider, Kar’niss, in Shadow Cursed Lands. If you help free the Pixie, you will gain permanent immunity against the Shadow Curse. Alternatively, if you keep it entrapped, you must take out the Moonlantern until you reach the Moonrise Towers.
