Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Fix Moonlantern?

Baldur’s Gate 3 is filled with unique items that help you get through the Cursed Lands. The Moonlantern is one such magical item that you find near the end of the first Act. However, its real use becomes critical only after you reach the second Act of BG3. Furthermore, the first torch that you find is broken and can’t be used at all.

As a result, players seem to be wandering around the Unforgivable Lands, trying to get it to work. Therefore, this article explains all you need to know about Moonlanterns and how to fix them in Baldur’s Gate 3.

What is a Moonlantern?

Moonlantern is a magical item in BG3 that helps light your way. This torch is powered by Pixie Dust entrapped within its glass vial. You can use these Moonlanterns to travel through the Shadow Cursed Lands without losing your precious HP.

Unfortunately, you can’t craft or purchase a Moonlantern, and you can only acquire this item from other NPCs.

Furthermore, you find your first lantern near the end of Act 1, but it’s broken. However, you can’t find any Pixies throughout the open world as of the latest update, leaving no way for you to fix it.

How to Get a Working Moonlantern?

Getting a Moonlantern

Now that you understand the concept behind the Moonlanterns in BG3, the next question is where to find a working one. Fortunately, you don’t have to wander too far away from the progression route. However, the source from where you can get a working Moonlantern mainly depends on your choices during the first Act.

Firstly, if you helped to save the True Leader in the Goblin Camp, you will take the Overland Route to the Moonrise Towers. In this case, you must acquire the Spider Lute from Minthara and take it to the Druider, Kar’niss, in Shadow Cursed Lands. Afterward, you will acquire a working Moonlantern after finishing your business with the Druider.

Similarly, if you help Druid Grove, you can only take the Underdark Route to the Shadow Cursed Lands. In this case, you can either loot the Moonlantern after defeating Druider, Kar’niss, or you can make your way to the Last Light Inn, where you can get a working Moonlantern.

Finally, you can get permanent immunity against the horrors of the Shadow Curse Lands after completing the quest for Jaheira and Isobel.

How to Fix a Moonlantern?

How to fix Moonlantern?

Now comes the twist in this whole story. The first Moonlantern that you find is broken, i.e., its Pixie is missing. Moreover, the game doesn’t tell you exactly how you can get it to work.

According to our understanding, the only way to fix a broken Moonlantern is to find some Pixie dust and trap it inside the broken vial. The only problem is that you can only find this dust in special chests that only appear once in a blue moon. So, you are forced to either get a working Moonlantern or find a way to permanently gain immunity against the Shadow Curse.

So, your best way to get through the Shadow Curse Lands without dying numerous times is to somehow manage until the Last Light Inn. Next, you must help Isobel and Jaheira to defeat the ambush.

After this quest, you will hear a voice calling for help from the Moonlantern. So, you have the choice to either help the trapped Pixie or keep it for yourself. If you help free the Pixie, you will gain permanent immunity against the Shadow Curse. Alternatively, if you keep it entrapped, you must take out the Moonlantern until you reach the Moonrise Towers.

Conclusion:

Baldur’s Gate 3 is very different from your ordinary Action-Adventure CRPGs. At times, you must choose between two important paths, and the rest of the story will unfold accordingly. For instance, you can use a Moonlantern to pass through Underdark and the Shadow Curse Lands. However, the game doesn’t tell you how to repair or craft these special lanterns. Therefore, this article explains all you need to know about fixing Moonlanterns and how to gain permanent immunity against the Shadow Curse.
