Your choices really make a difference in Starfield. From changing allegiances to eradicating the entire Crimson Fleet, everything rests on your word. Similarly, the game presents you with several scenarios where your actions will result in life and death for your companions. For instance, during the Entangled quest, you must choose between saving one reality while collapsing the other. So, which reality should you choose?
To answer this simple question, you must consider the outcomes, possible rewards, and if you have any other option. Fortunately, you can save everyone in both the ruined and pristine realities by choosing the third secret option. Therefore, this article explains which reality to choose during the Entangled Quest in Starfield.

Which Reality to Choose in Entangled?
Unlike other Starfield quests like “High Price to Pay”, you don’t necessarily have to choose between saving two of your most beloved companions. Instead, your choice means saving one of the two realities and the lab’s inhabitants. In other words, you can either save Rafael in the ruined reality and gain his allegiance, or you can save the pristine reality and over 30 lab staff members.
Furthermore, this choice also alters the rewards that you receive for completing this quest. While the quest doesn’t make any major difference in the overall game universe, it will change your rewards. For example, if you save Rafael, you get a bunch of crafting materials and unlock him as a companion. On the other hand, if you save the director, you get Legendary gear items but lose all the rewards from the first option.
Here are all the choices at the end of Entangled, their rewards, and which choice gives you maximum rewards:
Save the Ruined Reality and Rafael:
Once you make your way to the controlling probe in the lab’s basement, you must make your final decision. If you choose to save Rafael in the ruined reality, all the members of the pristine reality cease to exist. Moreover, you will also lose your new friend Ethan, the Experimental Nishina Spacesuit, and the Experimental Nishina Helmet. On the bright side, you will gain the following rewards:
- Rafael as a recruitable companion
- Credits
- Indicite Wafer
- 2x Comm Relay
- 4x Vytinium
- 5x Tasine
Save the Pristine Reality and the Lab:
Your second option is to save the pristine reality with Ethan, Director Patel, and a bunch of staff members. Moreover, you can also persuade the director to carry out a ceremony for Rafael’s sacrifice (to satisfy your ego). However, choosing this reality means that Rafael will die, and the ruined reality will cease to exist permanently. On the bright side, you will save over 30 humans, become their hero, and gain profitable loot that includes two Legendary gear items. Here are the rewards that you get for saving Director Patel and the rest of the staff in the pristine reality:
- Credits
- Experimental Nishina Helmet (legendary)
- Experimental Nishina Spacesuit (legendary)
Though it is clear saving which reality is ethically right unless you are looking for specific crafting materials and a new companion. However, there is a third secret option that you can use to save both realities and gain all the rewards without causing any deaths.
Save Everyone (secret option):
This secret option gives you sort of a happy ending-like feeling. You get to save both realities, everyone is alive, and you get double rewards, so it’s a win-win situation for everyone. However, to unlock this option, you must take a couple of extra steps.
At the end of the Entangled Quest, you must turn off all the switches for the reality that you wish to doom. However, what the game doesn’t tell you is that you can use Rafael’s collected data to recalibrate the control probe and save both realities. In the pristine reality, go to the lower section of the lab to find Rafael’s body. Search his corpse to collect the Calibration Protocol data slate.
This slate gives you the instructions to run calibration tests and stabilize the control probe. Next, head to the computer upstairs from Rafael and choose the “Degauss” option. This option will enlist various switches that you must turn off and on in both realities.
You will get the Frequency Calibration option once you complete this task by traveling to both realities and resetting the switches. Here, you must choose frequencies to combine both realities into a single waveform. Input the following frequencies in both realities to correct the Entangled Frequency Calibration:
- Ruined Reality: 40Hz
- Pristine Reality: 24Hz
Finally, go near the artifact in both realities and activate the Primary Calibration Control near it. After a brief cutscene, both realities will combine into one, Rafael will wake up, and everyone in the main reality will remain alive. As a reward for your services, you will get the following rewards:
- 23,000 credits
- Rafael will become recruitable in New Atlantis
- Reactive Advanced Experimental Helmet
- Incendiary Advanced Experimental Spacesuit

So, which reality should you choose to earn maximum rewards? This article explains the consequences of all choices in Entangled and how to save everyone to get all of the rewards.
