Stardew Valley is one of the most popular real-life farming simulation games today. Aside from farming, this also involves fishing and other human interaction with other villagers and other non-player characters or NPCs.
Fishing is also one of the most liked activities that players do inside the game. Besides being an exciting activity, catching fish can also be a fun experience because of the wide variety of fish available in all the different bodies of water that you can see.
One of the fishes that you can see here is the bream. Bream is the type of fish that you can easily catch. It only has a difficulty of 35 because of its availability during any season of the game. However, it is one of the fishes that are exceptionally active during nighttime.
If you happen to see this light blue fish with purple fins that ranges from 12 to 31 inches in size, then you’re right – you have caught a bream! Despite the widespread nature of the bream, it actually has a lot of uses as you progress throughout the game.

Where to Find Bream
As with other foraged resources in Stardew Valley, fish also differ according to where they live and grow. If you want to grind in catching a specific type of fish, you must first be aware of the specific bodies of water where they thrive.
Since the bream is one of the common types of fish that you can find in Stardew Valley, you can randomly find them in Garbage Cans, or buy it from the Traveling Cart for 135 up to 1,000 gold depending on the quality of the bream.
Along with these two, there are also other two options that you can choose to explore and try catching bream. The first one is the river located in Pelican Town and the river from the Cindersap Forest.
Pelican Town River
The first spot that you would want to consider while looking for bream should be the river of Pelican Town. The reason behind this is that your player will spawn in your farmhouse located in Pelican Town as you start playing the game. Conveniently speaking, you would want to maximize first the places near you before going to other areas.
To go to the river of Pelican Town, you would just basically need to walk to the eastern part of the map and you will be able to see a long-running river. Gong fishing anywhere along this river will have a high chance of you catching bream.
Cindersap Forest River
Aside from the Pelican Town river, you can also opt to go to the Cindersap Forest river if you also want to take a walk before enjoying the fishing activity.
The Cindersap Forest is located in the southwest part of the Stardew Valley. If you are from Pelican Town, go west to arrive at the CIndersap Forest. Once you reach the forest, you will see a lake and a river running along the forest. This river is also a good spot for you to obtain and collect bream.
However, knowing only the best locations for catching breams won’t be enough if you are planning to obtain and stock in your inventory. Some types of fish are only active during a specific time span, and breams are one of them. In conclusion, both the time and place should be taken into consideration.
How to Catch Bream in Stardew Valley
As mentioned before, the locations won’t be enough to get a hefty amount of breams. There is still another requirement needed and it is the time of fishing activity.
The bream in Stardew Valley is active in the rivers during nighttime. So, for you to have a good catch, the perfect time for you to go fishing for breams will be from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM. During these times, it is guaranteed that breams will be coming to bite your lure. However, be careful not to lose track of time. There is a chance that you enjoy fishing too much and you forget that it is already 2:00 AM. Once this happens, you will get extremely exhausted which will cause your character to faint.
Now, maybe you are wondering which type of rod is perfect for catching a bream. Since bream in Stardew Valley is a common type of fish and is readily available during any season, it also doesn’t require a high-quality fishing rod. Any rod from Bamboo Pole to Iridium Rod can be used in catching breams.
Uses of Bream
Breams might be taken for granted by some players because of their prevalence in the rivers. However, this type of fish also has different significant uses.
Healing Effect
Since fish are edible creatures once cooked, breams can also be used as the food of your character in-game. The healing effect of the bream in Stardew Valley differs depending on its quality.
The normal or regular bream can restore 13 energy and 5 health. A silver bream can give you 18 energy and 8 health after consuming it. While a gold bream can grant you 23 energy and 10 health. Lastly, the iridium bream in Stardew Valley can replenish 33 energy and 14 health.
Gift
Villagers are also like you in real life. They are unique and have their own likes and dislikes. Having said that, knowing the perfect villagers for you to give breams as a gift is important. Remember that gifting other villagers the items or resources they love or like greatly increases your friendship points.
Unfortunately, there are no villagers in Stardew Valley who like and love breams as a gift. On a good note, some are neutral in receiving this. These are Demetrius, Elliott, Leo, Linus, Pam, Sebastian, and Willy.
On the other hand, these are the people that you must avoid giving breams because they either dislike or hate breams, otherwise, your friendship points will suffer. These villagers are Abigail, Alex, caroline, Clint, Dwarf, Emily, Evely, George, Gus, Haley, Harvey, Jas, Jodi, Kent, Krobus, Leah, Lewis, Marnie, Maru, Pierre, Penny, Robin, Sam, Sandy, Shane, Vincent, and the Wizard.
Although in gifting, it is always the thought that counts. But in Stardew Valley, things run differently.
Recipe
Now if you have extra breams in your inventory, you can choose to use them for some recipes. In making a Baked Fish, it needs one Sunfish, one Bream, and one Wheat Flour. In terms of preparing a Maki Roll, you will have to ready seaweed, rice, and any type of fish. The next one is Sashimi. All you have to do is use any type of fish. Lastly is for a Quality Fertilizer. You will be needing two Saps and one of any fish.
Selling
Despite the wide variety of bream uses, and you still have some left with you, you can choose to sell them for a reasonable price. But of course, the value also changes depending on its quality.
The base price of a regular bream is 45 gold, a silver bream is 56 gold, a gold bream is 67 gold, and an iridium bream costs 90 gold. However, if you have already reached the maximum level of your fishing skills, you can actually still increase the value of your bream.
If you chose to unlock the Fisher skill, the values will increase up to 56 gold, 70 gold, 83 gold, and 112 gold respectively. And if you picked the Angler specialization, the value of your bream in Stardew Valley will boom up to 67 gold, 84 gold, 100 gold, and 135 gold.
