There are many different items that are essential to your game in Sons of the Forest. Items like the shovel, the rebreather, and the zipline. However, none of these will stop the mutant hordes on the island from ending your life. Thankfully, the shotgun can.
This article will focus on where to find the shotgun in Sons of the Forest. Keep in mind because crash sites are random, you might be farther away than you’d like to be. So be prepared for a long walk if you’re quite unlucky.
Shotgun Location in Sons of the Forest
The shotgun can be located in the northwest portion of the map. It can be easily found by following the purple marker near that area. Once there, you will find a cross. You need the shovel to dig up a coffin from this grave which will contain a dead NPC and the shotgun.

Unlike many of the other items, you don’t need to go cave-spelunking to acquire the shotgun. That being said, you still need to find the shovel before you can get the shotgun.
The shovel and the shotgun are decently far from each other. Therefore I recommend you stock up on essentials to ensure you can survive the trek. At the minimum, enough food and water to survive, along with a primitive weapon to fend off any cannibals in the area.
As exciting as it might be to have the shotgun, the limited ammo available makes it one of those items you only bring out on special occasions. Don’t just start blasting away every mutant in sight.
