Stardew Valley is a game filled with stories and secrets that are yet to be discovered by the players. You will be given different choices for you to unveil the secrets and mysteries inside Stardew Valley. First, you can do your own digging around the town and discover it on your own. Next, they will come to you as quests to unlock. Lastly, you have to know and make friends with the villagers to get to know more about them. An example of the last option is knowing where to find the Mayor’s shorts.

In this story quest, you will unfold an untold but not secret relationship between Mayor Lewis and one of the villagers. However, they are not out to disclose it to the public so the Mayor will ask you for a favor as one of his most trusted persons in the village.

Through this guide, we will show you where to find the Mayor’s Shorts by showing you how to trigger the quest and how to successfully finish it.

Who is Mayor Lewis

Once you successfully moved to your farmhouse in Pelican Town, Lewis would be the first person to greet and welcome you upon arrival. He is also the Mayor of the town so it is expected for you to encounter him in your quests.

Plus, he is an essential character in the game as he will be of big help to you during our stay. Along with him comes Robin who will be explaining to you the things you will have to expect living on your farm in Stardew Valley.

Unlike other quests that you have probably encountered before, the Mayor’s Shorts quest does not require any prerequisite quests. All you have to do is wait for the 3rd day of Summer during your first year in the game.

When this day comes, you will receive a letter addressed to you from the Mayor himself. The thing is that he lost his lucky purple shorts, and he wants you to find and return them to him as discreetly as you can.

Location of Mayor’s Shorts

Here comes the revelation!

You can find Mayor Lewis’ lucky purple shorts inside Marnie’s Ranch. If you ever wonder why of all places would his shorts be found inside Marnie’s house, it is because they are in a relationship. Although it is not a secret relationship, these two just prefer not to tell it to the public.

You can go to Marnie’s Ranch by going south of the farm. Specifically, it is located near the southwest entrance of Pelican Town and in the northeast of Cindersap Forest.

The Mayor's Shorts

The thing is, you cannot easily retrieve the shorts by simply coming to Marnie’s house—the mayor’s pair of purple shorts are located inside Marnie’s room.

How to Get the Mayor’s Shorts

Marnie's Room

Since this story quest will arrive at you while you are still relatively new to the town, you might find Marnie’s room still locked. This means that you cannot easily get the Mayor’s shorts to give it back to him.

The reason for this is that you are not yet close enough with Marnie; this applies to all NPC villagers. For you to be able to get inside the private rooms, you have to gain their trust by befriending them. You should first have at least two friendship hearts with Marnie for her to let you in her room.

To help you, here is a quick and brief guide on how to increase your friendship level with Marnie.

Marnie’s Gift Preferences (all universal likes and dislikes)

Earning friendship hearts with other villagers requires hard work and consistency from the player. One way for you to increase your friendship levels with villagers is by visiting them every day to catch up and talk to them.

Marnie's Birthday

But the best thing that you can do to gain friendship hearts is through gifts. However, not all items are acceptable as gifts. In this article, you can check the gifts that you can always choose and those that you have to avoid.

Giving gifts will have a significant effect on your friendship — it may be for better or for worse — this is especially true if you bring the gifts on the exact same day as the birthday. For you to lean on the better side, you have to learn more about the person that you are about to give the present.

Each villager in Stardew Valley has his or her own set of love, like, neutral, dislike, and hate items to receive. Obviously, you would want to focus on the things that they like and love, and make sure to avoid handing them the items under the dislike and hate.

To provide you with a quick guide, here are the lists of the things that you can give Marnie in order to increase your friendship level with her:

Loved items: Diamond, Farmer’s Lunch, Pink Cake, Pumpkin Pie, and all universal loves.

Liked items: All Milk, all eggs except void egg, Quartz, and all universal likes.

Neutral: Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Daffodil, Dandelion, Ginger, Hazelnut, Leek, Magma Cap, Morel, Purple Mushroom, Snow Yam, Winter Root, all universal neutral, and all fruit except Fruit Tree Fruit and Salmonberry.

Retrieving the Mayor’s Shorts

Getting Mayor's Shorts

Once you become friends with Marnie with two friendship hearts, you will now be able to get inside her room. Simply interact with the purple shorts just below the bed to retrieve it. Immediately handing it back to Mayor Lewis will grant you 750 gold and an extra friendship heart with the mayor.

However, you do some pranks with the mayor. Instead of giving it to him right away, you can place it in the Grange Display during the Stardew Valley Fair. In doing so, the mayor will bribe the player to take it down by giving you 750 Star Tokens. Plus, you can also combine the purple shorts with a gold bar in the sewing machine. This will result in gold-trimmed lucky purple shorts.
