How Much Space Does Stardew Valley Take?

The following list identifies the hard drive space used by the open-word crafting game Stardew Valley. Note that you might see some differences between the sizes listed here and the initial download of the game, which is often much smaller before the game updates. The sizes listed below reflect how much space Stardew Valley takes up for the 1.5 updates, its latest.

Stardew Valley Installation Sizes by Platform

  • PC and Mac – Both Steam and GOG have Stardew Valley listed as at least 500 MB for computers running Windows, Mac, or Linux in their product listings. However, both platforms are known to neglect updates in their product listings, leaving the game’s original file size. The actual file size of Stardew Valley on computers is 628 MB.
  • Xbox One – Installing Stardew Valley to Xbox One will take up 1.38 GB of your console’s hard drive. Note that you can use Xbox Live’s Cloud Gaming platform to play Stardew remotely through a browser, negating the space requirement on both PC and Xbox if you have the prerequisite Live and Gamepass.
  • Playstation 4 (PS4) – Unsurprisingly, Stardew Valley is the same size on PS4 as it is on Xbox one: 1.35 GB.  The file size is listed as 880 MB on the Playstation Store, but it rises another 470 MB after it updates.
  • Nintendo Switch – According to their official page on the Nintendo Store, Stardew Valley will occupy 1.5 GB of space on the Nintendo Switch. As this version was released after version 1.56, we can assume this number includes all the updates, and that no further space will be needed once the initial install is complete.
  • Android – The Play Store listings for most Android games are secretive about their file sizes, but most publications agree the file size is in the 500-600 MB range, like PCs and Macs.
  • iOS – The initial download of Stardew Valley on iOS–for devices like iPads and iPhones–is listed on the Apple Store as 367.1 MB. This is likely a similar situation to the PC version, where the size before updates is listed. Assume it will grow to above 500 MB or more after the base game is installed.

Now that we know how much space Stardew Valley takes across the platforms, it is probably surprising to see how much more is needed for consoles. We can assume this is because the game was originally programmed for computers, so consoles require extra files for the port to work. Fortunately, each of the current and next-gen consoles comes with some type of streaming service that lets you stream a single Stardew Valley install to multiple devices. This means the one big install will save you the space required to play it on other devices. Happy farming!
