How To Make A Nursery In Stardew Valley

What Is a Nursery in Stardew Valley?

Stardew Valley is a game that does not solely focus on farming and foraging activities. This game also gives emphasis to your relationships with other villagers, and when I say relationships, I also mean marriage. As you start a family, you will be asked by your partner to have a child. However, to do that, you must first have a nursery inside your farmhouse.

How nurseries work in real life is also how they work in Stardew Valley. This is where your baby will room, play, and rest. But remember that having a nursery in your farmhouse is not easy. You must work and save for it.

After reaching the end of this article, you will be able to understand everything you need to know on how to make a nursery in Stardew Valley.

How to Make a Nursery

If you are wondering whether the nursery is a separate building that needs to be constructed, well, the answer is no. As stated before, having a nursery will require you to save a hefty amount of gold and materials. This is because you have to upgrade your farmhouse two times.

To upgrade your farmhouse, go to Robin’s Carpenter’s Shop. Make sure that you will come on a schedule that she is working there. Once you arrive, talk to Robin at her desk. She will then ask you, What can I do for you? After that, select Upgrade House.

If you haven’t upgraded your farmhouse once, you have to pay 10,000 gold and 450 wood. On the second upgrade, you will need to pay Robin 50,000 gold and you should have 150 hardwood. Each upgrade will last for three days, which means to say that you cannot instantly upgrade your farmhouse to the maximum in one purchase.

After upgrading your farmhouse two times, your house finally has a nursery. Inside the nursery are one crib and two child beds since each family can only have a maximum of two children.

Things to Remember in Making a Nursery

Upgrading your farmhouse to have a nursery sure costs you a big amount of gold in-game, so you won’t really be thinking of upgrading it just because. To tell you, there are some things you need to consider in upgrading your farmhouse and having your nursery.

Marry Someone

How to Make a nursery in Stardew Valley - Wedding

A nursery in Stardew Valley without a baby is nonsense. But a baby won’t be possible without a spouse. Having said that, looking for someone among the marriage candidates is a must in Stardew Valley. It is actually one of the features that make this game exciting and pretty interesting. However, if you are playing a co-op game, you can just marry your friend instead of choosing from the bachelor and bachelorettes one by one.

Remember that the gender of your chosen marriage candidate won’t matter regardless if you are a male or a female. Marriage is still possible as long as the chosen villager is not in an existing relationship.

However, getting into a marriage is not as easy as finding a marriage candidate. You must first work on your friendship level with each other. Reach the eighth heart and give a bouquet of flowers which you can buy from Pierre’s General Store for 200 gold. Once your partner accepted it, he or she will be entitled to your girlfriend or boyfriend on the social tab.

Your next goal is to increase the number of hearts once again. But this time, it will be a maximum of 10 hearts. Once reached, you can propose marriage to your partner by giving the Mermaid’s Pendant. You can purchase this from the Old Mariner for 5,000 gold. However, before you can buy the pendant, you must upgrade your farmhouse at least once. After accepting the pendant, your wedding day will be set.

Adopt or Have a Child

The next step in marriage is having a child. After the wedding day, you must maintain the number of hearts with your spouse. It should be at least ten hearts.

When this is maintained, there is always a 5% chance every day that your spouse will ask you if you want to have a child. Remember that you can always say no. Otherwise, giving a yes will have you wait for 14 Stardew Valley days. After 14 days of waiting, the baby will appear in the crib inside the nursery in Stardew Valley.

On a side note, since same-sex marriage is allowed in Stardew Valley, being in this type of relationship will be impossible for you both to have biological children. That is why adopting is also a thing in this game.

The same thing happened with the first one; there is also a 5% chance of your spouse asking you to have a baby for each day. Accepting the offer will also make you wait for 14 Stardew Valley days. After that, the adoption agency will deliver the child to your home at night.

In terms of the gender of the children, you will always have a girl and a boy. The gender of the first child will be randomized, while the gender of the second child will be the opposite.
