Blood Moon Horde is an extremely difficult zombie horde that appears on every 7th day by default. There are a few signs and warnings that appear on the same day before the actual horde arrives.

These signs tell that a zombie horde is coming on this day at late night. The first sign of Blood Moon Horde is that the day number will turn red in the HUD. This tells that the horde is coming tonight.

At 21:00 the sky will turn red and there will be a strong storm, a crack of thunder will start the storm. At 22:00 the initial horde will start appearing. You will hear an announcement that the horde is beginning. Soon after you will see zombies spawning.

Right after that, zombies in different waves will start coming to you. They will know your exact location. These waves will get harder as they get advanced and also the number of zombies will be increased.

As you start killing zombies, you will see that new zombies are spawning. Once you cleared a wave there will be a short delay before the next wave spawns. Also, each of these waves occurs for a specific time and once the time finishes the wave will be ended.

At 04:00 the Blood Moon Horde will end and the sky will turn blue from red. The zombies that spawned during the horde will now have the normal behavior like in the standard game.

Blood Moon Horde Mechanics and Frequency

The Blood Moon frequency can be updated in the settings. By default, its frequency is locked at 7 which can be changed. Two different options can be customized. The first one is frequency and the second one is range.

Let’s say the frequency is set to 7 and the range is set to 1. After this setting the Blood Moon will happen on day 15 or day 16. That’s because the Blood Moon will occur on day 7 or day 8. Now, if the Blood Moon has occurred on day 8 then the next Blood Moon will occur on 8 + 7 + up to day 1. So, it could be day 15 or day 16.

The Blood Moon can also be disabled if you are not yet prepared for it. This can be done by simply changing the frequency to 0. This will disable the Blood Moon. Also, you can make the Blood Moon happen every night by changing the frequency to 1.

Now, there are certain mechanics of the Blood Moon. Some of these mechanics are based on the player’s game stage. While others are fixed like they are the same for every player in 7 Days to Die.

  • The number of zombies spawning in each wave and their strength is based on the game stage of the player.
  • The number of zombies that you will be fighting at a time is directly based on your game stage and several players.
  • Each wave that happens during the Blood Moon has a timer and a total number of zombies. You can either kill all of the zombies before the timer runs out or you can run out of time to cause the next wave.
  • There are a certain number of waves. Once you clear all of the waves before the end time of Blood Moon, the event will automatically end.
  • At the end time of Blood Moon which is 04:00 AM, all of the remaining zombies from the Blood Moon Horde will return to their normal behavior.

What is the Spawn Radius for Blood Moon in 7 Days to Die?

The spawn radius for the zombies during the Blood Moon horde is somewhere around 30 to 50 blocks from the player. The zombies will keep spawning during the entire Blood Moon period until the timer runs out or you have killed all of the zombies.

It doesn’t matter where you go, the zombies will know your location and they will keep spawning at your place within the 30 to 50-block radius.

What Happens After The 7th Day in 7 Days to Die?

The 7th day is the Blood Moon Horde day in 7 Days to Die which is by default. On this day you will get warnings and signs that later tonight the zombie horde will be coming. So, you have to prepare for it by placing proper defense and equipping the right fighting tools which are going to be your weapons.

After the 7th Day (Blood Moon Horde), everything will return to its normal behavior like the zombies animals, and the environment in the game.
