Most of the players get confused in Baldur’s gate 3 when they encounter an Owlbear and they are unable to decide whether they should kill the Owlbear or not. This happens during Act I of your journey.

You will find this Owlbear and its cub just outside the Emerald Grove. Players have a choice either to kill the Owlbear or leave it. If you don’t kill it then at some point it will be hunted by the goblins.

Killing it won’t give you any exceptional rewards but some Inspiration Points. So, there is like no point in killing that Owlbear. Although, the choice is yours. This guide has everything that you need to know about Owlbear in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Should You Kill the Owlbear in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Owlbear that you will encounter in Act I will be just outside the Emerald Grove in a cave. Killing it or leaving it alone is your choice. But, if you choose to leave it then after some time Goblins will hunt it down and take away its cub.

Later on, you can get the cub from the goblin camp and tame it. You can get a few valuable items from the corpse of Owlbear by not killing it and taking a long rest. When you wake up from the rest there will be a corpse of Owlbear which can be looted.

What you will get is Head of Broken Spear. Later, this head can be attached to the Shaft of Broken Spear to complete the Spear. It’s a powerful spear that on hit blinds the the target.

Now, if you are willing to kill the Owlbear then it’s a great idea to leave the cub because later on it will be taken away by the goblins and you can get him from them to keep it at your camp as a pet.

Taming the Owlbear Cub

Owlbear Cub can be kept as a pet at your camp. But for that, you will need to take a long rest after killing the parent Owlbear or without killing it. Once you wake up, you will see that the cub has been taken away by the goblins to their camp.

Now, you will have to get to the Goblin Camp which is on the west side of the Blighted Village. There you will see goblins surrounding an Owlbear Cub. Free the cub from the goblins. Once it is freed, you will have to follow it to the forest where it can be tamed.

To tame the cub can be tamed by feeding and healing. Once you do that the cub will be tamed and it will now become your companion. You can also keep it at your camp as a pet.

Should I Kill the Baby Owlbear?

No, there is no point in killing the baby Owlbear. Killing it won’t give you any reward. Instead, you will lose a chance of keeping it as a companion. The baby Owlbear can be kept as a companion and pet at your camp.

But, this only becomes possible when you let the goblins take the cub to their camp. You can then head to their camp and retrieve the cub. Once you free it from the goblins, it will head towards the forest where it can be tamed by feeding and healing.

Is There A Way to Save Owlbear?

No, the Owlbear cannot be saved. It will either be killed by the goblins or you can choose to kill it by yourself. Although, the cub can be saved by rescuing it from the goblin camp when the goblins take it away.

That’s the only thing that you can do. Saving the parent Owlbear is not possible. It will be killed either by the goblins or by the players.

That’s everything for Baldur’s Gate 3 Should I Kill the Owlbear guide. You see that the Owlbear gets killed even if you don’t kill it. If you leave him alive in the cave, he will be killed by the goblins after some time.

Then you can loot its corpse and also rescue the Owlbear cub from the Goblin Camp. Once you rescue it, the cub can be tamed to keep as a companion or as a pet at your camp.
