Risk of Rain 2 Items and Equipment Tier List

In this Risk of Rain 2 items and equipment tier list, I will be ranking all of the best items and equipment in Risk of Rain 2 by how good they are. Every section will be separated by rarity. This means that whites (common) will be in a different section than red (legendaries) items.

I will rank them all from S Tier to F Tier, with F Tier being an item you wouldn’t pick up (extremely rare in a looter).

Note: Updated for Survivors of the Void, the paid DLC for Risk of Rain 2.

For the survivors of the void items, I will put them in their appropriate sections. For corrupted items, aka void items, I will put them in the section that the original item exists in. So, for example, Plasma Shrimp (void ATG) will go in the uncommon/green items section.

With all of that being said, let’s get right into the tier list, starting with commons.

Risk of Rain 2 Common Items

The common items are also called white items. They are the most common (obviously) and are usually the first items you will come across in Risk of Rain 2.

S Tier Common Items

S Tier items are the cream of the crop. These are the items that can change your run for the better. Get them whenever you can.

  • Soldier’s Syringe – Increases attack speed by 15%. (+15% per stack).
  • Tougher Times – 15% (+15% per stack) chance to block incoming damage. Unaffected by the luck.
  • Lens Makers Glasses – Your attacks have a 10% (+10% per stack) chance to ‘Critically Strike’, dealing double damage.
  • Bustling Fungus (Engineer Only) – After standing still for 2 seconds, create a zone that heals for 4.5% (+2.25% per stack) of your health every second to all allies within 3m (+1.5m per stack).
  • Repulsion Armor Plate – Reduce all incoming damage by 5 (+5 per stack). It cannot be reduced below 1.
  • Mocha – Increases attack speed by 7.5% (+7.5 per stack) and movement speed by 7% (+7% per stack).
  • Oddly-shaped Opal – Increase armor by 100 (+100 per stack) while out of danger.

A Tier Common Items

A-Tier items are still good. However, they aren’t as game-changing as their S-Tier counterparts. A bit riskier to 3-D print these.

  • Paul’s Goat Hoof – Increases movement speed by 14% (+14% per stack).
  • Energy Drink – Sprint speed is improved by 30% (+20% per stack).
  • Backup Magazine – Add +1 (+1 per stack) charge of your secondary skill.
  • Topaz Brooch – Gain a temporary barrier of 15 (+15 per stack) on kill.
  • Delicate Watch – Increase damage by 20% (+20% per stack). Taking damage to below 25% health breaks this item.

B Tier Common Items

B-Tier items are good but aren’t noticeable improvements to your build. Most runs will have plenty of these, but you should rarely ever 3-D print these.

  • Focus Crystal – Increase damage to enemies within 13m by 15% (+15% per stack).
  • Fresh Meat – Increases base health regeneration by +2 hp/s for 3s (+3s per stack) after killing an enemy.

  • Stun Grenade – 5% (+5% per stack) chance on hit to stun enemies for 2 seconds.
  • Gasoline – Killing an enemy ignites all enemies within 12m (+4m per stack). Enemies burn for 150% (+75% per stack) base damage
  • Cautious Slug – Increases passive health regeneration by 300% (+300% per stack) while outside of combat.
  • Monster Tooth – Killing an enemy spawns a healing orb that heals for 8 (+8 per stack) health.

C Tier Common Items

C Tier items are meh. They don’t matter much but there is no reason not to pick them up.

  • Bustling Fungus (Everyone but Engineer) – After standing still for 2 seconds, create a zone that heals for 4.5% (+2.25% per stack) of your health every second to all allies within 3m (+1.5m per stack).
  • Rusted Key – A hidden cache containing an item will appear in a random location in each stage. Increases rarity of the item per stack.
  • Sticky Bomb – 5% (+5% per stack) chance on hit to attach a bomb to an enemy, detonating for 180% damage.
  • Medkit – Heal for 10 (+10 per stack) health 1.1 seconds after getting hurt.

F Tier Lunar Items

What is the best item in Risk of Rain 2?

The best item in Risk of Rain 2 is without a doubt the 57 Leaf Clover. This item is in a league of its own when it comes to boosting your damage output and overall survivability.

Basically, the 57 Leaf Clover will re-roll every chance-based effect that you are affected by (except for chests and Tougher Times). Essentially, any time you would be affected by a DOT the clover will re-roll the chance in the hope you won’t be affected by it. Similarly, it will re-roll proc chances and increase the chances that items proc.

This is super strong on items that don’t increase proc chance with stacking but increase damage with stacking. ATG is the best example.

How Items are Balanced in Risk of Rain 2

Items in Risk of Rain 2 are balanced based on how well they stack. Common items require many stacks to be good, uncommon items require less, and legendary items require even fewer.

This topic gets brought up a lot when discussing Chronobauble or Red Whip, two uncommon items that most players hate getting due to their underwhelming effects.

Truthfully, the items aren’t that good, however, it isn’t about how good they are. With one Red Whip, I move 30% faster, something that takes several Paul’s Goat Hooves.

Keep this in mind when discussing what items are bad/good.

Disclaimer

I tried to be as objective as possible when putting this item tier list together, but everyone has their own playstyle and favorite items. Some people might think I didn’t do their favorite item justice; however, when putting this tier list together, I asked myself these questions for every item.

Would I trade X item for X item? Example, Soldier’s Syringe for Bustling Fungus.

How many stacks do I need for this item to be good?

Do I need several items for this to be relevant?

If an item didn’t make it through these questions, it would get ranked lower.
