Elden Ring Flamberge Build

Elden Ring takes many things from Dark Souls and improves them to meet player expectations. The beauty of this game is that even borrowed things come with whole new lore. Moreover, the developers are also generous in rewarding creativity and the hunger for exploration. In other words, you can find powerful weapons and precious loot and experience beautiful sights by exploring the Lands Between. When it comes to swords and armaments, Elden Ring is very different from other games of this genre.

For instance, you don’t need to find a Legendary Greatsword to defeat some of the hardest bosses in the game. Instead, you can acquire a less rare weapon, infuse it with Ash of War, upgrade it with smithing stones, and combine it with your character build to defeat everyone that comes your way.

The Flamberge Greatsword is one such weapon that you can acquire early on in your gameplay. Moreover, it is a non-Legendary weapon that can deal pretty serious bleeding, piercing, and physical damage if wielded correctly. If you are also looking for a sword to complete your bleed build, this article, Flamberge build in Elden Ring, is the perfect guide for you.

What Is the Flamberge Greatsword?

Requirements:

  • Strength: 15
  • Dexterity: 14

Scaling:

  • Strength: D
  • Dexterity: C

Ability:

  • Stamp (Upward Cut)

The Flamberge Greatsword is a non-Legendary weapon in Elden Ring. The sword was previously present in Dark Souls, but now it comes with new improvements and a whole new backstory. It is the signature weapon of Jerren, the witch hunter who resides at the Redmane Castle, to keep the Scarlet Rot away from society. It is a typical Greatsword that shreds the enemy’s body, inflicting pain, bleeding, and piercing damage. You don’t need to divert from the main storyline to acquire this sword.

However, the way to get it includes fighting some challenging bosses and weaker enemies. Firstly, you can get it after defeating the Starscourge Radahn boss or by visiting Redmane Castle before the festival has begun. Either way, you must choose between fighting Starscourge Radahn or the Magma Wyrm boss to get this sword.

Secondly, the Flamberge Greatsword is specially prescribed as an early-game weapon for most Strength characters looking to create a bleed build. The sword doesn’t come with a Weapon Art, but that gives you the freedom of infusing it with the Ash of War of your choice. Moreover, you can easily upgrade the weapon using common smithing stones.

The Stamp (Upward Cut) is the special attack of this weapon that blocks the recoil of your enemy’s attacks, followed by a strong uppercut. Furthermore, each critical strike with this sword tags your opponent with the bleeding build-up of +55. So, you can easily finish off any enemy by landing a few perfectly timed attacks. In short, if you have a bleed build in mind for your Elden Ring playthrough, this sword is a must-have early-game weapon.

Best Elden Ring Flamberge Build

The Flamberge Greatsword is the signature weapon of Jerren, the witch hunter. He is the keeper of the Redmane Castle, who keeps the Scarlet Rot at bay. Moreover, he is also the host of the annual General Radahn-slaying festival. So, he is sort of a hero in the local community. In this regard, Jerren’s weapon is considered to be one of the most powerful Greatswords for inflicting physical damage. However, his sword is only available near the festival, and the only way to get it is by visiting the secret chambers of the castle.

Flamberge is an early-game weapon that has the potential to take you a very long way before you find a better substitute. Moreover, it is a weapon for the Strength character class. So, it should be the first option on your list if you plan to create a bleed build.

Though the minimum requirements of the sword are significantly less, you must still prepare for the build right from the beginning. For instance, you must choose the right class, upgrade according to a plan, gather the perfect gear, and learn the required magic spells. This article covers all aspects of the Flamberge build in Elden Ring so that you have a general idea about how to create the perfect build.

Recommended Stats

Before you can wield a sword in Elden Ring, you must first meet the minimum requirements. Each item in the game comes with a specific set of skills that you must achieve before acquiring the sword. For this build, you will need at least 15 levels in Strength and 14 points in Dexterity. These stats are pre-defined in almost any Strength-based character class. So, you will have no trouble meeting the minimum requirements. However, you must prioritize your upgrading strategy as it will prepare your character for the sword and the next weapons on your list.

The Flamberge Greatsword scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity. So, your main focus should be on upgrading these stats before the soft cap. Moreover, the sword’s default Weapon Art costs only 5 FP per trigger. So, you don’t have to invest a lot of points in the Mind attribute. However, you must prioritize the Vigor, Arcane, and Endurance to create this build.

The Vigor improves your HP bar, Arcane increases the overall damage output, and Endurance increases your stamina and resistance. However, if you plan on using a powerful Ash of War with the build, then you can invest a few extra points in Mind and Intelligence. Here are the recommended stat levels that you must achieve at the maximum upgrade level of the sword:

  • Arcane: 45
  • Dexterity: 50
  • Endurance: 35
  • Faith: 22
  • Intelligence: 13
  • Mind: 15-20
  • Strength: 48
  • Vigor: 45

These skills are only to give you an idea about which attribute to prioritize for the build. Moreover, the goals may change when it is time to replace the sword with a better option. So, it would be best to decide your ultimate weapon for facing the Elden Beast, as the Flamberge Greatsword isn’t strong enough for that fight. Still, it is a long way before you face the final boss, and this sword can take you at least halfway.

Recommended Weapons

The Flamberge Greatsword is a suitable weapon for PvP and PvE scenarios. However, it isn’t recommended for fighting tougher bosses, stronger enemies, ranged opponents, and groups of invaders. Therefore, it is best to keep a second weapon to inflict double damage or attack enemies with a new strategy.

For a bleeding build, you can always rely on the River of Blood or Moonveil Katanas. These weapons inflict greater physical damage and boost the bleeding and piercing buildups. Similarly, you can also choose a bow or any ranged weapon to deal with distant enemies.

However, if firing bows aren’t your style, you can always work your way to get near the enemy. Once the opponent is within your reach, you can use the primary weapons or the Meteoric Ore Blade to quickly defeat them. Lastly, it would be best to keep a weapon that inflicts magical damage, as some enemies in the Lands Between are completely immune to physical damage. In short, you can choose from the huge array of weapons for your bleed build in Elden Ring.

Recommended Armor

Your armor set defines the outcome of any battle, especially when playing with a Strength build. Most weapons of the bleed build require you to be close to the enemy all the time. So, you must have enough protection to absorb the attacks while you work your way to get near the enemies. Moreover, most enemies in the Lands Between cause physical damage, so the armor will also preserve your precious HP during the fight. In this regard, there are three armor sets that, in my opinion, are perfect for any bleed build.

You can choose from the Black Knife Set, Land of Reeds Set, and White Reed Set for your build. However, these armors are scattered across the vast world of Elden Ring. So, you must divert from the main path every now and then to acquire them. Furthermore, these armor sets are my personal choices, and you can use any medium to heavy armor for your build.

Recommended Spells

The spells aren’t really important for this build. In fact, the magical spells aren’t important for any Strength to build in Elden Ring. So, skipping the magic portion will save your time and character points so that you can invest them in maintaining your brute force. However, you can always learn a few basic spells to cause some extra damage in your battles. As for the Flamberge build in Elden Ring, I don’t recommend any magical spells.

Secondly, you will only need a few Ash of War to infuse the Greatsword. You can choose between the sword dance and the Bloody Slash for your Flamberge. Both these skills increase the bleeding damage, thus increasing the overall damage output. Moreover, you can also try the frost or flame Ashes in case you really want to try out the sword in a boss battle.

Similarly, you will need some basic Spirit summons for your strategies. The goal is to get as close to the enemy as possible to drain his HP. So, you can use the Spirit summons like the Mimic Tear Ashes to distract your opponent while you get closer to him. The Lone Wolf is also a suitable summon if you run low on your FP.

Recommended Talismans

Talismans play an important role in any character build in Elden Ring. There are numerous talismans that you can use in your strategies. Some of them grant you extra HP, some boost your stamina and resistance, and others increase your damage output.

The Flamberge build primarily focuses on inflicting the bleeding build-up, so your talismans should be oriented in the same way. In my opinion, the Lord of Blood’s Exultation and the Winged Sword Insignia is the perfect talismans for your build.

However, if you feel like you need some extra help in some other department, you can always add a few talismans of your choice in the spare slots. In short, you are free to add two talismans to overcome your flaws in battle strategies.
