Slime Hutch Guide Stardew Valley

What is Slime Hutch in Stardew Valley?

Slime Hutch Guide Stardew

As you get introduced to the amazing environment of Pelican Town, you will be familiar with different crops that you can grow, animals that you can shelter, and activities that you can try during your stay. Other than these, Stardew Valley also gives you a wide variety of buildings you can construct while growing and expanding your farm. Some buildings require you to reach a certain level or finish a particular task before you get access and become eligible to buy and construct them.

The Slime Hutch is one of the buildings that you can place on your farm. It is an infrastructure where slimes can live and reproduce. Each Slime Hutch can contain up to 20 slimes of different kinds. While multiplying slimes inside your Slime Hutch, you will also be able to get a constant supply of slime drops such as sap and other slimes.

As you go through this guide, you will learn everything you need to know about Slime Hutch.

How to Build a Slime Hutch

Building a Slime Hutch

Once you have already thought of catching slimes and taking care of them on your farm, the only thing that you will be needing is the Slime Hutch. To get this, make sure to prepare 500x Stones, 10x Refined Quartz, 1x Iridium Bar, and 10,000 gold. If you already have all of these, simply go to Robin’s Carpenter’s Shop. Talk to Robin and choose to build a Slime Hutch.

As soon as you select this option, you can choose where to place your Slime Hutch on your farm. It will take up 11×6 tiles on your farm. Just like other buildings, completely building this will take two Stardew Valley days. When the Slime Hutch is already fully built, make sure to fill the water troughs to ensure the production of Slime Balls.

Where to Get Slime Eggs

Slime Eggs

Now that you know how to get a Slime Hutch for your farm, the next thing you have to learn is the different ways you can do to get slime eggs that will hatch into slime which will, obviously, produce another slime egg for you.

Slime Incubator

Once you have the slime eggs, you must use a Slime Incubator to be able to hatch the eggs that you have collected. However, building a Slime Hutch will already grant you one incubator inside. Each egg needs two to three Stardew Valley days in order to hatch.

In this section, we will introduce four different ways how you can obtain slimes that will inhabit your Slime Hutch.

Marlon

Slime from Marlon

The first slime to be placed in your hutch will be a gift from Marlon. After you successfully build your first Slime Hutch, Marlon will visit you and introduce the breeding system of slime to you. Other than that, he will also hand you a slime egg that you can put inside the hutch which you can use to start breeding new slime after you put another slime of the opposite sex.

Slime Egg-Press

Slime Egg-Press

Another method that you can try is the use of the Slime Egg-Press. As mentioned, working with this equipment is a miracle of science

The Slime Egg-Press uses 100 pieces of slime and compresses them into a slime egg. However, you can only craft this equipment after obtaining its crafting recipe once you reach Combat Level 6. Once you already have this, you can start crafting it using 25x Coal, 1x Fire Quartz, and 1x Battery Pack.

Slime eggs produced this way will produce different slime types at different times: green slime egg has a chance of 64.125%, blue slime egg has a 21.375% chance, red slime egg has a 9.5% chance, while purple slime egg has a 5% chance of appearing.

Defeating Slimes

Another way of getting slime that you can raise inside your Slime Hutch is by defeating slime. As you already know, there are different types of slime that are identified by their colors. Upon killing a slime that you encounter inside The Mines, the egg color will be the same as the slime’s color. On the other hand, you can get a Tiger Slime Egg after defeating a Tiger Slime that lives inside the Volcano Dungeon.

However, one important thing that you need to know is that receiving slime egg drops from defeating slime will only be possible if you already have a Slime Hutch on your farm.

Exploring the Skull Cavern

Skull Cavern Treasure Rooms

Even though going inside the Skull Cavern is a bit more dangerous than going inside The Mines, walking your way inside can give you a chance of getting either a purple or a red slime egg. All you have to do is look for treasure rooms and let your day’s luck work on it and give you a purple or red slime egg.

Slimejack Fish Ponds

Slimejack Fish

Slimejack is one of the fishes that you can find in the Mutant Bug Lair. From its description, a Slimejack is coated in a very thick layer of slime.

Once you catch this fish and place it in a pind, you can expect it to produce a green slime egg with a 2% chance once the pond already has 9 Slimejacks inside.

How to Mate Slimes

Mating Slimes

Before a slime egg hatches, there is no way to figure out whether the slime is a male or a female. The only time to reveal that is upon hatching the egg.

Their sexes can be easily identified by just looking at their appearance. Slimes with antennae are males, while slimes without antennae are females. However, you cannot do anything to encourage them to mate. The only thing you can do is put them inside the same cage. That way, they can randomly start mating.

You will know if two slimes are mating if both of them show a heart. But when the female slime runs away from the male slime, an exclamation point will appear instead.

How to Maintain Your Slimes

Unlike other farm animals, slimes are easily maintained. There is no need for you to constantly check on them to feed and pet them compared to others such as chickens. All that needs to be done is to give them water. You can do this by manually filling the water trough on the right side, or by putting a sprinkler to refill it automatically.

If the slime is watered well, it will produce slime balls. You can right-click it to release some items from the slime, or even petrified slime.
