The Ideal Boss Order in Elden Ring

Elden Ring packs a huge open world to explore along with numerous bosses spread across the land. Moreover, FromSoftware.inc has made this game completely different from any other title in this genre. For instance, the game doesn’t hold the player’s hand at any point to keep him within the lore. Similarly, unlike in the Dark Souls series, the players aren’t restricted to following a specific boss order. In other words, regardless of the path in defeating the boss order in Elden Ring, the story progresses according to your choices.

Similarly, almost all bosses are designed to test your abilities and, in some cases, your patience. So, if you aren’t careful with your battle preferences, you will most likely die numerous times. Fortunately, you don’t need to fight all 83 bosses to complete the game. Instead, the game requires you to face only 12 main bosses, and all others are optional.

However, the developers left it for the players to figure out the main bosses in the game. Furthermore, the game doesn’t stop you from facing a high-level boss, even after the introductory quests. Therefore, I have compiled a tutorial about the correct boss order for Elden Ring so that you don’t die a couple of hundred times.

The Ideal Boss Order in Elden Ring

According to the Reddit community, you can avoid all optional bosses to complete the game’s main story. Moreover, it is important that your character is strong enough to face the 12 main bosses in Elden Ring. Therefore, it would be best to follow this boss’s order to complete the game without any problems. Moreover, I will also provide some strategies that will surely help you defeat them all.

Here is the boss order in Elden Ring:

  1. Margit, the Fell Omen
  2. Godrick the Grafted
  3. Red Wolf of Radagon
  4. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon
  5. Draconic Tree Sentinel
  6. Morgott, the Omen King
  7. Fire Giant
  8. Godskin Duo
  9. Maliketh, the Black Blade
  10. Godfrey, First Elden Lord
  11. Radagon of the Golden Order
  12. Elden Beast

1. Margit, the Fell Omen

Margit, the Fell Omen

Location:

Castleward Tunnel Site of Grace, Stormveil Castle

Reward:

  • Talisman Pouch
  • 12,000 Runes

Margit is the first non-optional boss that you encounter early in the game. Most players feel challenged by the boss as they jump straight into the battle with low stats. He is an aggressive boss with extremely chained combos. So, the best way is to avoid him till you upgrade some of your stats, especially the summons. Moreover, you can also purchase Margit’s shackle from Patches to stun him for some extra damage. Similarly, I would suggest that you summon Rogier and use the Spirit Ashes whenever you get the chance.

2. Godrick the Grafted

Godrick the Grafted

Location:

Stormveil Castle, Limgrave

Reward:

  • Remembrance of the Grafted
  • 20,000 Runes
  • Godrick’s Great Rune

Godrick is the second and probably a relatively easier boss in Elden Ring. Players who get past Margit won’t face any problem in defeating him. He is the final boss of the signature dungeons of Stormveil Caste. To defeat Godrick, it is important to follow a simple yet effective strategy. Firstly, try to stay out of his line of sight and avoid getting stuck to dodge his attacks. Secondly, you can summon Nepheli Loux for some extra help. Furthermore, he is a two-phase boss, and the second phase is a little tricky. For this part, you must first dodge his fire breath attack and attack him from behind.

You can also go here to find out what to do after Godrick.

3. Red Wolf of Radagon

Red Wolf of Radagon

Location:

Raya Lucaria Academy

Reward:

  • Memory Stone
  • 14,000 Runes

Red Wolf of Radagon is the fastest boss in Elden Ring. He is a headache for sorcerers and archers as he can quickly dodge their attacks. However, he has a low health point ((HP) bar, and melee players can quickly end the fight. The problem is that he is too fast even for the light sword attacks, and you won’t be able to connect more than a few blows. Furthermore, he is an important boss before fighting Rennala. Fortunately, you can easily defeat the giant wolf by following a simple strategy. Firstly, summon Spirit Ashes Jellyfish or Demi-human. These ashes will distract the wolf so that you get time to lay a few damaging blows. Secondly, equip a strong shield to defend against the melee attacks, and move to dodge the magic attacks.

4. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon

Rennala

Location:

Raya Lucaria Academy

Reward:

  • Great Rune of the Unborn
  • Remembrance of the Full Moon Queen
  • 40,000 Runes

Rennala is the major boss of Raya Lucaria Academy. Players can only fight her after defeating the wolf. However, she is technically an optional boss as players can choose between her and Starscourge Radahn. In my opinion, you should fight her as she is relatively easier to defeat, and the reward is too good. For instance, players can reset their stats after defeating Rennala using the Larval Tears. However, she is still a challenging boss if you don’t follow the right strategy. For instance, she is a mage, so your magic spells won’t land much damage on her. Instead, rely on your Spirit Ashes and deadly weapons. There are two phases of the fight. For the first part, find her children to break the barrier and land as many blows as possible when she gets down. For the second phase, dodge her attacks, summon ashes to divert her attention, and attack whenever you get the chance.

5. Draconic Tree Sentinel

Draconic Tree Sentinel

Location:

Entrance to Leyndell, Royal Capital

Reward:

  • 50,000 Runes
  • Dragon Greatclaw
  • Dragonclaw Shield

Draconic is the most challenging variant of the tree sentinels, with his ability to land ranged attacks. However, players must defeat him to gain access to Leyndell, the Royal Capital. He is a knight in golden armor who is well-equipped for open-field combat. Fortunately, the community players have found multiple ways to defeat this challenging boss. To defeat him, the rule of thumb is to avoid open conflict and land sneak attacks, preferably poisons. For the first phase of the fight, sneak close to the boss, land a few poison attacks, and get away before he launches the next attack. Similarly, for the second phase of the fight, dodge all attacks and use ranged fire, poison, and arrows to attack him.

6. Morgott, the Omen King

Boss Order in Elden Ring Morgott

Location:

Erdtree Leyndell, Royal Capital

Reward:

  • Morgott’s Great Rune
  • Remembrance of the Omen King
  • 120,000 Runes

Morgott is the main boss of Leyndell, the Royal Capital. After defeating the golden knight, you will eventually reach the base of the Erdtree. However, a powerful boss guards the throne, and you must fight him to reach the mountaintops of the giants. To defeat Morgott, you can follow two simple strategies. You can either bring a sword with a strong slash attack and put ice scaling on it for frost damage. Alternatively, you can use sorcery to lower his health bar and slowly kill him off. Furthermore, you must summon Melina to divert Morgott’s attention when following the frost attack strategy. Last but not least, Morgott’s shackle can come in handy for stunning him twice during the fight.

7. Fire Giant

Fire Giant Boss Order

Location:

Mountaintops of the Giants

Reward:

  • Remembrance of the Fire Giant
  • 180,000 Runes

If you have managed to kill all the bosses as mentioned above, congratulations! You are halfway through the game. Now get ready to face a fire giant with two huge health bars, explosives, fire breath, and high hit damage to the player. Moreover, you must defeat the fire giant to access the Crumbling Farum Azula and progress in the story. The problem is that this giant only takes hit damage, and magic has little to no effect on him. Here’s a quick strategy to defeat this boss if you have a melee character. Mount the Torrent, take him to the back of his feet, and attack as many times as possible. When you notice that the giant is about to attack, flee to dodge or dismount as soon as your HP drops to avoid any damage. Similarly, for the second phase, aim for the ankles, and dodge all attacks by moving around.

There’s a quick method for those who haven’t updated to Patch 1.03/1.04. Ride to the top right corner of the arena as soon as the fight starts. Lure the giant behind the rocks so that he gets stuck. Wait for him to perform the jump attack and die from the fall. Do the same for the second phase, and you will be on your way to Crumbling Farum Azula in no time.

8. Godskin Duo

Boss Order in Elden Ring

Location:

Crumbling Farum Azula

Reward:

  • Ash of War: Black Flame Tornado
  • Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing
  • 170,000 Runes

The Godskin Duo is perhaps the most remarkable boss in the entire Elden Ring. Most players who reach the Crumbling Farum have already encountered Godskin noble or Godskin apostle separately. Moreover, these characters don’t pose a major threat when alone. However, facing the Godskin Apostle and Godskin Noble together is a whole different story. For instance, the boss duo has a collective health bar, and both can revive each other. Similarly, most magic spells are useless against them, so the players can only rely on their melee attacks. A sound strategy to defeat this duo is to summon Knight Bernahl for extra health.

Moreover, focus on one boss at a time; when one goes down, shift to the other, and repeat till they are defeated. Alternatively, summon Spirit Ashes in one corner of the room, and go to the opposite corner. Wait for the duo to go towards your Ashes and start shooting Comet Azur Spell for massive damage.

9. Maliketh, the Black Blade

Maliketh

Location:

Besides the Great Bridge, Crumbling Farum Azula

Reward:

  • Remembrance of the Black Blade
  • 220,000 Runes

Meliketh is no doubt one of the hardest main bosses in the whole game. You can find him beside the great bridge in Crumbling Farum Azula. However, you will be greeted by Beast Clergyman when you visit the place. Immediately, the first phase of the battle will start, where you must take down the beats to uncover the main boss. Therefore, the first phase of the fight is relatively easy, simply summon multiplying Ashes and use the Rock Sling gravity spell 4-5 times to stun him. Once he is stunned, land some heavy blows or cast the Rock Sling gravity spell for massive damage. The second phase of the boss battle is the toughest one. After draining the HP to 50%, the beast will transform into Meliketh. He is a fast enemy and has numerous move sets and combos. So, you will be spending most of the second phase dodging his attacks. The key here is to distract him with Spirit Ashes, cast the Rock Sling gravity spell 4-5 times to stun him and use heavy attacks to deal more damage. However, make sure to perfectly dodge every attack, as a single combo can kill you even at 99 Vigor.

10. Godfrey, First Elden Lord

10. Godfrey, First Elden Lord

Location:

Capital of Ash

Reward:

  • Remembrance of Hoarah Loux
  • 300,000 Runes

Once you reach Godfrey, it means that the end of the game is drawing very close. For instance, now you would have 100+ levels, upgraded stats, top-notch equipment, and mastered your fighting style. So, it’s about time you get to deal with the real thing in the game. Godfrey is the first Elden lord and all that stands between you and Erdtree. Though no longer a golden shade, he is still a worthy opponent even in his flesh form. Fortunately, you can easily wear him off by following a simple strategy. Use the Rock Sling spell along with the Meteorite Staff to stun him.

Moreover, make sure you have at least 60 Vigor and heavy armor and don’t forget to dodge all attacks. In the second phase of the fight, Godfrey transforms into Hoarah Loux and engages in hand-to-hand combat. His wrestling blows are devastating and can inflict 1000+ damage in one hit. So, always dodge backwards, summon Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes, and use the same strategy as the first phase.

11. Radagon of the Golden Order

Radagon of the Golden Order last boss

Location:

Leyndell, Ashen Capital, Fractured Marika

Radagon is the second last boss in the game, but it won’t be wrong to consider him the last as there is no break between him and the beast. Therefore, it is important to complete all upgrades, and tunings, equip the best armor, and yield the most powerful weapons before going into battle. Moreover, it is recommended to carry at least 14 flasks (30 golden seeds) and flask level 12. The first phase of the fight begins with Redagon of the golden order, a challenging boss, but you can ease things up with some magic. Use the Comet Azur legendary spell and the flask of Cerulean Hidden Tear for infinite focus points. Moreover, the Rock Sling Spell + Meteorite Staff combo is perfect for the fight. For a small head start, move as close to the boss as possible when the animation finishes; this will freeze him in place till your first attack.

12. Elden Beast

Elden Beast final boss

Location:

Elden Throne

Reward:

  • Elden Remembrance
  • 500,000 Runes

After defeating Radagon of the Golden Order, he regains his HP and transforms into the Elden Beast. So, you now have to face probably the most challenging boss in the whole Elden Ring world. Moreover, the second phase of the battle starts without warning, so you don’t get time to heal or prepare yourself. Therefore, it is important that you prepare yourself for a long fight with two bosses. The key to defeating the Elden Beast is to stay away as far as possible. You can dodge most of his attacks by staying out of the ring and running sideways. However, the only major threat is when he shoots four sword waves, you must dodge them with perfect timing to avoid damage. In this phase, your key to success is to cast a few Spirit Ashes and shoot the Rock Sling spell with the staff. Lastly, restore your HP and FP using flasks whenever you get a chance.

After defeating the Elden Beast, rest at the site of grace and save your game progress. You can optionally move on to new game plus after defeating the final boss of Elden Ring.

In new game plus you will be able to face all of these bosses again and make different choices in the story. Every enemy will also become stronger as well, so keep that in mind.

According to Wiki Fandom, there are a total of 109 unique bosses in Elden Ring. However, most of them are optional, and you can complete the main story by defeating only 12 of these bosses. Still, if you are looking for extra runes and powerful equipment, I would recommend that you take down as many bosses as you can.

What is the fastest boss in Elden Ring?

Red Wolf of Radagon is the fastest boss in the game. He can cast Spirit Ashes, makes melee attacks, and magical spells have little to no effect on him. Fortunately, he has a smaller health bar, so you can summon an NPC to divert his attention and land a few heavy blows when he is not looking.

Currently, Elden Ring has six different endings. Fortunately, most of these endings are triggered after defeating the Elden Beast. So, you can enjoy all six endings by saving the game after defeating him and trying out the different options.

Elden Ring has a glitch where the fire giant gets stuck behind the rocks on the right side of the arena. When he performs the jump attack, he falls and instantly dies from the damage. Who is the main final boss in Elden Ring?

The Elden Beast, or the dragon of Elden throne, is the final boss in the game. However, you must first defeat Radagon of the Golden Order before he transforms into the Elden Beast in the second phase of the fight.
