When to Go to Mountain Pass in Baldur’s Gate 3

The right time to go to the Mountain Pass in Baldur’s Gate 3 is when you have planned to visit the Moonrise Towers. Heading to Moonrise Towers gives you a questline that you can complete to progress your ACT I.

Although it is not necessary to choose Mountain Pass as your path to the Moonrise Towers, Underdark also leads you to the Moonrise Towers. But, this can be more dangerous as the threats and other NPCs in there are too strong.

Underdark has totally different environment as it is located beneath the surface of the main map. However, the Mountain Pass is part of that main map. So, it is recommended to use Mountain Pass when visiting the Moonrise Towers.

Entering Mountain Pass

Now, we have two entrances to Mountain Pass, the first one is in the Goblin Camp and the second one is near the Risen Road. Although, the best route is Goblin Camp. This one is simple and easy to locate and doesn’t really require you to clear out any enemies before you can enter the Mountain Pass.

You will have to go to the west side of the Goblin Camp where you can look for an entrance through the mountain. There will be a stone door which will be marked as Mountain Pass. That’s your entrance to the Mountain Pass.

Before you get in there, make sure that you have Spider Lyre. As you make your way into the Mountain Pass, you will have to go through the Shadow-Cursed lands. If you step into this specific part without having Spider Lyre, your party will slowly lose its health over time.

So, you should have Spider Lyre already in your inventory. This can be obtained by defeating Minthara or romancing with her and getting it as a gift. Minthara comes into contact when you are on the Save Halsin quest.

Once you have got that, you are ready to get through the Mountain Pass. When you choose to enter through the stone door, the game will prompt and it will ask you to save any progress before entering.

Heal up your party and save everything. Continue with the prompt and you will be transferred to the other side of the stone door which is Mountain Pass.

Heading to the Moonrise Towers

When you have entered the Mountain Pass, you will have to go through various paths to make it to the Moonrise Towers. This will be a whole new journey for you that is full of surprises. As you start the journey of Mountain Pass you will be encountered with the dead bodies. Rather than looting the bodies, there is not much to know about them.

You can keep on moving once the loot is finished. Head towards the north side, and you will reach Trielta Crags. At this point, if Lae’zel is in your team then she will ask to head towards the Creche. If you refuse she will get there on her own.

When you move to that place there will be a group of enemies waiting for you to start a combat. This is a strong team, make sure that you have already saved your progress before you get into the fight.

Once you have finished the fight, loot the bodies, heal up your party, and keep moving. As you follow the marker, you will meet with an NPC Elminster. Talk to him and keep on moving. You will then reach the entrance of Shadow-Cursed lands.
