How to Get Large Egg in Stardew Valley

Before you can even get a hold of this premium item, you must first learn how and where to get it.

Since a large egg in Stardew Valley is still a poultry product, you can also get it by owning and taking care of a chicken inside your coop. Just like ordinary eggs, this large egg is also classified as a large white egg and a large brown egg. Do not worry if you have different colors of large eggs on your farm. All the attributes of large eggs with the same quality will have the same attributes regardless of their color.

As mentioned, large eggs are obtained by properly taking care of chickens. Take note of the term properly as there is an important note that you have to consider when taking care of chickens if you have a goal of having large eggs.

However, let us first discuss how you can obtain chickens for the sake of newbie players.

Getting a Chicken

All farm animals, including chickens, can be purchased from Marnie’s Ranch. This shop can be found in the northeast part of Cindersap Forest. You can enter Marnie’s Ranch on any day of the week. However, you can only buy items from her shop on Wednesdays to Sundays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Once you find her shop, simply enter it and look for Marnie. Approach and interact with her and search for the chicken.

The same goes with eggs, chicken also varies in color. You can find white, brown, and blue chicken. However, the blue chicken can only be obtained once you have encountered and seen Shane’s 8-heart event. Despite their difference in color, you can still get any color of chicken you want as they all still have the same attributes and functions.

When you already have purchased chickens, you can now put them inside your coop that you can buy from Robin’s Carpenter’s Shop for 4,000 gold. You will also need 300 pieces of wood and 100 pieces of stone. It will take Robin three Stardew Valley days before it is finally finished. From then on, you can house it with a maximum of 4 chickens. You expand the capacity by upgrading the coop when you have enough resources.

Now that your coop and chickens are all set, you must first learn and understand how you can properly take care of your chickens to receive premium quality items.

Increasing the Mood of the Chicken

After taking care of your chickens for a long time, you may sometimes wonder why they aren’t producing large eggs. But, my friend, the answer is in your way of taking care of them.

Simply feeding them when they are hungry won’t really make them produce large eggs for you. They might be well-fed but they are not happy. Another possibility is that you have a low friendship with them.

If you are aiming for a premium quality item such as a large egg, you must make sure to do these things:

  1. Feed your chickens regularly.
  2. Pet them every day.
  3. Maintain a maximum level of friendship.

When feeding your chickens, consider also taking them out of their coop. Doing this can boost your friendship level with each other. However, make sure not to leave them outside until night. Although they will automatically head back in, this will greatly diminish your relationship score with them.

Petting them also will greatly increase your friendship score with each other. Right-clicking your chickens will serve as your way of greeting them in the morning. You will know that your chicken is happy if a heart bubble pops up.

Lastly, maintaining your friendship is one of the hardest but most important things you have to do.

You can increase the friendship points by doing all the things mentioned above. Being consistent in doing this will gradually increase your friendship points with them. You will know that you have reached the maximum friendship score if you can see five full hearts after clicking your chickens. However, do not be complacent when this happens. Forgetting even just one thing will already deduct friendship points.
