During the game Stardew Valley, you can choose who you want to marry from twelve bachelors and bachelorettes. No matter what gender your character is, you can pick any of these people to be your spouse.

Here is the list of the names of villagers you can marry:

Bachelors

  • Alex
  • Elliot

  • Sebastian
  • Shane

Bachelorettes

Each of these marriage candidates also has different personalities from one another, as well as different stories and experiences to tell. Once you started to get to know a villager, you will be more aware of their personalities, habits, and likes and dislikes.

Increasing Your Friendship Heart Levels

How To Get Married in Stardew - Heart Levels

Every villager, whether a marriage candidate or not, has friendship levels that you must increase or at least maintain. In terms of your chosen marriage candidate, it is important for you to consider them your priority in increasing the number of hearts.

To do this, there are several factors that you must consider to make sure that your friendship level is increasing steadily.

Know Their Schedule

The first step in successfully accomplishing your goal of increasing your heart in friendship level is to know the schedule of the villager.

Each villager has a different schedule every day in each season. However, some of them change their itineraries when there are deviations such as snowy and rainy days.

It is always important to take their respective schedules into consideration, especially when activating their heart events since some heart events are triggered at certain times and places.

Gifting

One way to easily increase your friendship level with a villager is by gift giving. However, not all items are ideal for all villagers. Items as gifts are categorized by loves, likes, neutral, dislikes, and hates. Choosing the perfect gift for a specific villager requires knowing the kind of gift they’ll love, and avoiding their dislikes and dislikes.

On the other hand, you can still refer to the universal items – universal loves, universal likes, universal neutrals, universal dislikes, and universal hates. These are the items that most commonly villagers love or hate. However, it is important to know that there are still exceptions per villager.

Plus, make sure to be aware of their birthdays. Gifting them the items they love on their birthdays gives you a boost to your friendship levels.

Visiting

Another secret to increasing your friendship level is to visit them and talk to them every morning. In doing this, you definitely need to know their schedule on specific days. Doing this can help you maintain the number of hearts in your friendship. Skipping or forgetting to do this can cause your friendship level to decrease friendship points which are called decay.

Finish Heart Events

Heart events are specific for each player. As mentioned before, these events can be triggered on specific dates and times.

In doing heart events, you will be provided scenes from the villager’s life and you will be given a choice of action or response depending on what happened. In some cases, your choice can affect your friendship level with the villagers, while some do not. Activating heart events is also a good stunt in knowing the villagers deeper than your impressions of them.

Getting Into a Relationship

In wanting a relationship with villagers, there are specific steps that you must first consider and experience before going straight to the more serious situation—marriage.

When talking about relationships in Stardew Valey, this refers to friendships, dating, proposals, and weddings. Believe it or not, you can also break up and initiate a divorce in Stardew Valley. Here is everything you need to know in having relationships with villagers.

Friendship

You already know that hearts are important in establishing a friendship with villagers. To add one heart, you must earn 250 friendship points. You can opt to monitor your friendship points by looking at the social tab in the main menu.

For each villager, the maximum number of hearts that you can have together is eight if you have no intentions of marrying or if the person is not available for marriage.

Dating

Once you reach eight hearts with a villager, you will receive a mail from Pierre on the next day. The letter will inform you of the bouquet.

Giving a bouquet to a villager after reaching eight hearts is a sign of wanting to date. You can buy the bouquet from Pierre’s General Store for 2000 gold. Once you give someone a bouquet, the maximum number of hearts will increase from eight to ten. If the villager accepted the bouquet, his or her social tab will show girlfriend or boyfriend depending n the person you chose to date.

However, if you happen to have a change of mind and heart and decided to break up with him or her, you can give a wilted flower as a sign of breaking up. However, doing this will immediately drop the number of hearts to five.

Proposal

After reaching 10 hearts with your marriage candidate, Mayor Lewis will send you a letter. The letter contains a tip for proposing to a villager.

In doing so, you must give your girlfriend or boyfriend the Mermaid’s Pendant. You can buy the pendant from the Old Mariner for 5,000 gold. However, you can only find the Old Mariner at the tidal pools on the beach on rainy days. But there are needed requirements before you can successfully purchase the pendant.

You can only reach the Old Mariner in his location after repairing the bridge for 300 wood or by purchasing the second community upgrade from Robin. Plus, you should also upgrade your farmhouse at least once.

If your partner accepted the pendant, your calendar will show a pendant on a specific day which indicates your wedding day.

Wedding and Married Life

Your wedding day will land exactly three days after you propose to your partner. This will happen in the morning. After the ceremony, a cutscene will happen and you will find your character and your spouse in your farmhouse at 6 in the morning. Regardless of the weather report, your wedding day will automatically be a sunny day.

After this, your life will run normally as before, but the maximum number of hearts with your spouse will increase up to 14 hearts. As you continue with your married in Stardew Valley life, you must still maintain the number of hearts by continuing to give gifts and by having a conversation every day.

Helping them in managing the farm also helps in maintaining the number of hearts. When your spouse is happy, he or she might make breakfast for both of you, feed animals, water your crops, or repair broken fences.
